I'd think the AFL would be savvy enough to know we have one more good crack at this and the appointment must be correct, and must generate a little excitement amongst the GC public. Their hands will be all over this contract. I don't think a first time coach addresses the urgency we have up here for success.

My concern about Dew is that his training standards as a player were poor, and to a large extent relied on natural ability to get by. Exactly the attitude we need to train out of our players.

Are you suggesting we put "Horse" Longmire's head in his bed?

Ralphy has just suggested we offer Clarkson upto 2.5 million a year. Also admitted it's unlikely he'd take it.
Strange. Surely if we had that kind of money to play with it would be better to spread it out a bit more, couldn't get a handful of super competent guys for 2.5 million annually?

What a smug boring piece of work is Chris Scott.
Given his brother is $4 to be our coach please assure me that Brad Scott has a much much different personality to Chris.
Hey we finally agree on something mate haha I can't stand the F****** Scott twins. Both come off as arrogant little smug thugs. Excuse my language but it's just my opinion

I don't know why, but Barker just seems like a very underwhelming candidate. Wind back the clock 12 months when it was between Fagan and him for us, I was desperately hoping it wasn't going to be him.

Good luck with the coach search, I'm sure the right decision will be made.

I really wonder why Dew has never wanted to step up before. He has had so many opportunities over the years, maybe he is happy as an assistant and in Sydney?
Probably sees himself as coach in waiting for the Swans, which would be a prime gig.

Apart from Walch at Adelaide, Roos at Melbourne and Malthouse at Collingwood coaches never quit, they are sacked because a team is seen to be under performing. It's hard to get the best candidates to apply for teams that are seen as basket cases.

Look at the history of new coaches recently. Only Adelaide was seen as a decent gig. Brisbane, Carlton, Bulldogs, Essendon, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Port did not attract star fields. Melbourne got Roos out of retirement because the AFL subsidized his 1.7 mill year salary with a special payment. Similarly Worsfold did not want to apply for the Bombers job until the offer of 1.5 mill a year was made. Virtually no one wanted the Lions, Blues, Bulldogs and Port gigs so they had to pick the best of the candidates they received, with reasonable success. Actually Gold Coast was regarded as having the most promising list, albeit with some cultural problems.

Evans is an experienced operator who left a successful club, the Hawks, for a plum job at the AFL. I think he was probably incentivised to go to Gold Coast to turn things around. It hardly seems a step up to voluntarily leave the reigning premiers and one job later end up at the Suns. I think that if wthere is an outstanding candidate for the job the AFL will assist in funding. Without predjudicing his internal review I think there will be other staffing changes mooted as well. I think that you will end up with a reasonable overall coaching team but it may take time to turn things around.

PS: I thought it was poor of Eade to dump on your club in the press. He was well paid whilst there and, not being a woman, can hardly use the "I was young and naive" excuse.

I've got a relative at AFL HQ. Believes if we don't land a current senior coach then Adam Kingsley will be extremely hard to beat.
No real inside knowledge, just the word around is that he's a freak, blitzed the Level 4 and if interviewed will wow them. $19 chance

Gold Coast Suns coaches already searching for new jobs as club continues review

SUNS assistants are already on the hunt for new jobs as they prepare for their likely exit following the departure of Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade.

Rarely do assistants remain at an AFL club after the sacking of the head coach and Gold Coast’s mentors are preparing for the worst.

If any are looking to the club for support they won’t find it online. Gold Coast’s own website has taken down the list of its football department staff.

Suns assistants Dean Solomon, Matthew Primus, Ashley Prescott, Andy Lovell, Melbourne-based Brett Munro, Matthew Lappin, Aaron Rogers and NEAFL coach Stephen Daniel are all off contract at the end of the season.

Development coach Nick Malceski is contracted until the end of 2018.

It is standard club protocol to have the assistants contracts aligned with the head coach for this very situation.

Solomon has already been offered a job with fellow expansion club GWS but is likely to be considered for the Suns top job as he prepares to lead the team as interim coach in the last three games against Brisbane, Essendon and Port Adelaide.

The Gold Coast Bulletin understands some Suns assistants have already begun talks with various football clubs about positions both locally and interstate.

The group were all free to begin talks with potential new employers if the Suns weren’t able to offer them new deals by August 1.

Since the club’s review of the football department is still ongoing no decision on whether they are re-signed has been made.

All of Gold Coast’s current group of assistants are from inaugural coach Guy McKenna’s era except Lappin, Daniel and Malceski.

Some others were elevated from development roles under Eade
