Thanks. St Kilda hey.....how exciting....not
yeah I know what you mean, it's not like their midfield is performing superbly and make you take notice of their midfield specifically. Only positive I can spin from it is the emergence of Seb Ross in their midfield, as well as if he does come north to us it might come with some good relationships there? Sort of like Armitage, or maybe even a Seb Ross to come across to the Suns?

you like to think once we employ a new head coach, and assistants with that comes existing relationships. Similar to the Dixon/Hinkley where that is beneficial for the recipient

Depends how you view it I guess. I don't think they have a real A grader in their midfield that's why they're chasing Josh Kelly.
You then have to ask if they've got the most out of Armitage, Ross, Steven, Steele, Newnes etc. I think they probably have.

I think Scott has done a pretty good job with a fairly average list at North
Not the worst candidate
I'm not an expert on hiring modern day football coaches but he's experienced, knows what he's getting into and is local
Gives the impression of giving a toss too which I like

This is my problem with him. Plenty would say we have an ordinary list, right? He's ridden North fairly well to no ultimate success and back down to the bottom again. Eade could do that for us so Scott seems like more of the same.

Eade didn't take us to two consecutive prelim finals. Did he?

People comparing Scott to Eade?
Just in terms of results and ladder position.
Scott has some amazing tactical knowledge
Not enough to win the thing, and enough that eight seasons in, they're near the bottom. A recurring theme of losing close matches or giving away leads suggests he won't put a 'never say die' into our group either.

No but we did hire him on the basis that he had taken other teams to consecutive prelims. That didn't work out so well. Let's not repeat our mistakes.

He's not my number one option but I wouldn't mind him. If we can't get Ratten, Kingsley, Lloyd, Dew, Clarkson, then i'd take him

He's solely the reason we have a terrible list.
Took 6 years to work out that Tape, Russell and Bull weren't up to it.
Still has Shaw, McKenzie and others clogging up the list.
Unlike GWS who continually turned their list over until they got it right, Clayton can never admit that he got something wrong, He hoards onto players who aren't up to it to our detriment.
After 7 years Witts, Lyons & Barlow should've been the icing, not the actual cake.
I don't see that as a failure of his recruiting - maybe of his list management. Most of those blokes suffered injuries along the way & none developed into great players, but they all showed potential early on. Stanley led our goalkicking one season. Our coaches saw fit to play both Shaw & McKenzie in over 100 games. I'm not privy to why they were all kept on the list so long, but they were mostly just depth players & probably on the lower end of our pay scale. The Suns have a history of rewarding players, who suffer bad injuries with an extra contract (Coad, Tape, Brooksby, Hutchins I think...). Maybe it was about balancing the Salary Cap, with so much required to hold on to our top-end players.

So Brad Scott into $1.75 on Sportsbet. Excuse me while I vomit.
We approached Brad last time didn't we when Eade got the job?
Rumours also that his manager approached Brisbane last year too. Maybe he wants to return to Qld. Is Penny his wife a Qlder?

Wow from $4 to $1.75 that's massive!!
I just last night asked the question that I hope he has a different personality to Chris Scott because Chris Scott comes across to me as this smug spoilt twat and I also find him boring to listen to.

I'd hope Brad Scott is a different type and is more engaging and charming.

As a general concept I'm good with us getting anyone from the BLions triple Premierships team because they understand what it takes to be successful in terms of Travel, less media scrutiny, lifestyle and building a culture around those constraints be they positive or negative and unlike sookie la la I want to run back to Melbourne and be a dog Rocket Eade, BScott might actually care passionately about Gold Coast football.

Mr Bods you're right
I think Scott would care very very much about the state of footy in QLD and do everything he could to turn it around for us
The more I think about it the more I like the idea
The last thing we need is the Ablett version of a Coach
We've learnt that money doesn't buy passion for our team
Isn't it great that a decent coach like Scott might actually WANT to come here?

So is this a thing now? We want Brad Scott?? When did this happen?

I won't say no as I think he over achieved with a sloppy list at North. If he can overachieve with us, I'd be stoked.
Yes we don't necessarily need a premiership coach we need a coach that can make us relevant and competitive on and offield he does this and has potential to take us to that dream premiership.

What about a GC local with a mental toughness and self-drive that is off the charts even when those charts measure world champion athletes?
Sally effing Pearson.
Sadly, doubt she could be bothered with coddled and spoiled AFL professionals. Would have some of the boys crying in no time though.

You do realise that includes Voss?

Yes i do realise that Sunner.
I know his first go at Senior Coach wasn't fantastic but he's had a good amount of time in the wilderness still working as an Assistant and has had time to reflect on what went right and wrong and how he'd do things next time.

It's not "a thing" but the difference between Scott/Voss/Clarkson vs the unknowns is they have a body of work we can assess
In terms of what we know about Scott and what I've seen I'd be happy with him
I just shudder a bit at the thought of a rookie coach

Ok I'm all for Voss or an experienced coach just seems to be a bit of negativity towards him when mentioned previously
