So I'm not having a go at anyone and I won't harp on about this much more, but I'm clearly against the idea of Brad Scott. What I do want is the BEST candidate, the one that excels in this recruitment process, the one that can excite the supporter base, and preferably one that has a proven tack record of training shit-loads of grit into players. I don't want the candidate that in eight years topped out at a sixth place minor round ladder position, and inspires this type of 'meh' rhetoric:
  • "not the worst"
  • "not everyones favourite"
  • "not my number one"
  • "I'm comfortable with it"
  • "not against him"
We need to aspire to be the best, go out and get what we need, and make it happen (with sneaky AFL assistance).

Hey if your AClarkson $2.5million rumour comes good then bring it on, we would be all in for that one.

We all want that. But with what you've described only an experienced coach can provide what the club needs. Out of all the available coaches brad Scott is definitely one of the better candidates. His media persona would likely change if he moved up here as less media attention asking stupid questions repeatedly he would also be required by the club to be active in the community and sell the club. With his background he his poised to be able to sell the club better then an untried coach.

However in saying all this I don't think he is number 1 on any of our preferred coaches lists but is definitely top 3.

The biggest worry with B Scott is the amount of close losses his teams have. Close losses equals lack of leadership and lack of belief in the coaching.

IMO he has done above average with a very below average list.
I also like the fact he played all his football in Queensland. I think good Coaches are blokes who got every drop out of their ability l believe he did that.
Just facts as l see them. Not saying l want him BTW.

I never really thought about his coaching much I just always associated close losses with him - maybe that can be construed as good that he could get an average list that close, don't really know...

Dont think B Scott is the man to take us to the Grand Final. Highly doubt Evans will be looking at him. (i really hope not anyway)
The thing is... I don't think in the next 3 years we will be looking at a GF, if however he can get us to finals, which he has proved he can do with an average list, I feel that would be the first step.

He did that by squeezing the last out of the Roos and adding in older players for a couple of years, look how that is paying off now. I think we can aim to be making the finals and possible top 4 in the next 4-5 years, the doggies did it, so can we. Just need the right man at the helm.

They don't count the margins you count the wins
True - but percentage can also make or break you - Doggies this year for instance. Far rather a close loss each week than some of the floggings we've copped at times..

An analysis into Brad Scott's performance as head coach of North:

2010 - 9th (11 wins, 11 losses)
2011 - 9th (10 wins, 12 losses)
2012 - 8th (14 wins, 8 losses) -> 96-point EF loss to West Coast
2013 - 10th (10 wins, 12 losses)
2014 - 6th (14 wins, 8 losses) -> 12-point EF win over Essendon, 6-point SF win over Geelong, 71-point PF loss to Sydney
2015 - 8th (13 wins, 9 losses) -> 17-point EF win over Richmond, 26-point SF win over Sydney, 25-point PF loss to West Coast
2016 - 8th (12 wins, 10 losses) -> 62-point EF loss to Adelaide
2017 - 16th (5 wins, 15 losses... so far)
Home and away record - 86 wins, 83 losses
Finals record - 4 wins, 4 losses

Outside of 2017, it's a pretty decent coaching record (at least 10 wins each season), without being spectacular. We know North lost quite a bit of their experience last year with the likes of Harvey, Petrie, Wells etc all leaving so there was always going to be a drop for them in 2017. Let's be honest, North's list hasn't been amazing over the last eight years so it's pretty impressive that they were able to achieve what they did under Scott without dropping at some point (excluding 2017).

If you can't get an A grader like Clarkson, Brad Scott would be a pretty good consolation given his record. He has a 50% success rate in making finals so you'd be pretty happy if he was able to take the Suns to the finals at some point over the 2018-19 period.

I am one North supporter who thinks Brad Scott has done a very good job with an average list, and he has always taken a big picture view of his role, both on and off the field. Despite the fact that we are near the bottom this year (won't be there for too long) the Club is in a much better position now that when Scott came and he has played a big part in that. He will give 100% and get others doing the same
