Don't understand peoples criticism of brad Scott as a coaching candidate for us.
He's done an exceptional job at North leading them to several finals campaigns with an average list. Thier best player had been boomer Harvey over that time and I think I heard they didn't have a single top 10 pick on thier list. Imagine what he could accomplish with our mob off potentially talented kids.

I don't know if we're that much better than North really...

I like it that BScott understands what it takes and the issues involved in being successful when based up here in SEQ.
That's a fair point. He understands the QLD footy climate because he spent nine years with the Lions. In his first year with Brisbane they got the wooden spoon and obviously he was a part of the three premierships years later.

You're joking right?

Since Eade took over we haven't had any players on the front page of the Courier Mail doing a line of ******* cocaine.

Use your own brain Red
Don't just blindly believe the BS
Culture at club still stinks.
Players and Club are just better at covering it up. Couldn't cover up Harbrow drink driving incident thou. Who was he driving home ???

This coming from someone who thinks Eade is a better coach than Clarkson. If I have no sense of reality you are in another f n universe.

Presumably if we still haven't played finals in 3 years we'll be onto the next coach?
Hoping they get things right this time - feel for Rocket - but he will be first of many to go - and in many ways is least deserving.
He was appointed with no option to bring his own trusted assistants. Was given a list of underachievers with a strong bias toward favourites at selection . Was appointed and supported by a couple of mates that had been part of his football journey. Unfortunately he was sold a "Lemmen" and I do feel for him as a result.
I'm sure Evans has the answers and we will be able to move on from here - minus some football admin staff and assistant coaches .......
Hope new coach has better opportunity to make his mark..

Hey GC fans, forgive the intrusion. Hope things go well for you.

And I'm very keen to see which coach Evans will bring in that will get Day, May, Hall, Ablett, Swallow, Hanley, Thompson, Matera, Ah Chee, Rischitelli all on the park for 23 rounds in 2018!

And that is GC's only issue in a nutshell. All the hand wringing is baloney imho. The last two seasons have been decimated by an injury list that would see every club be where GC are, or worse.
Poor old Rocket might not be the greatest, he is competent, but without that lot he's had no chance. Look at the potential ins this week. Reads like the entire starting midfield for a good team.
David Swallow, Aaron Hall, Ben Ainsworth, Jarryd Lyons, Michael Rischitelli and Brandon Matera are all a chance of returning to the side
At least with a few games left it gives your assistant a chance to apply for the job - I think that is always a good move. If the players play for him, it leads to a club building atmosphere. See Roos in Sydney for the best example.

Anyways good luck.

Only movement tonight in betting is Clarko from $34 to $26
No doubt on the back of what was said on AFL360. It was something along the lines of "The AFL are heavily invested in the Gold Coast Suns, they should pay whatever money it takes to get the very best coach there and develop the club in the right manner." Clarko was then mentioned, along with a 2.5 million per year salary. Personally I think this is fantasy realm stuff, but it might explain the movement in the betting.

One that isn't being talked about I'd love to be considered is Nathan Bassett
That's a good call. The only one at Port Power with any clue in my opinion. The talk of Hinkley and Voss is absolute trash and we do not want either of them, at any level. Would be the death of our club. Both are genuinely no good.

I was going to post a new thread, but that seems frowned upon and this topic may not have generated many replies anyway. But as part of the whole of club review, Scott Clayton has to go. He was probably one of the worst appointments this club has made and a massive reason why we have the problems we do. It is my opinion that he tried to predict the way the game was going to evolve and continually tried to recruit the same type of players based on those predictions. He couldn't have been more wrong. Any suggestions here on who could take on our list management position, or who we could try and bring in from another club ?? Any stand out recruiters from other clubs who would be ready to take on the top job ??

Talk on SEN the other day that we are looking at Graham Wright who was the recruitment manager of the Hawks whilst they won the three-peat, but most likely would come to replace Ashcroft's role. They also said the AFL talent manager (forgot his name) would replace Clayton's role

There was a bit of a "lost interview" yesterday with Graeme Downie the guy who made the real play for our Club in 2008
He said what a lot of us have been saying for years
We have our couple of elites then this massive drop-off to a lot of actually not very good players
To some extent Rocket improved that this year by bringing in Barlow Lyons and Witts but as Downey said- those next level players have never improved(Miller Shaw McKenzie Lemmens etc) and wouldn't get a game anywhere else
That falls squarely at the feet of the guy who recruited them
I hope the next Coach realises he's got 2 years before his neck is on the line
Of course he has the advantage of building on a much sounder foundation than the shit sandwich Eade inherited
