How about if we don't land an experienced coach we appoint solly as head coach and then throw big money too Barker, Kingsley, Lloyd and other candidates to be assistants? I know unrealistic but surely with a bunch of these blokes coming in there is enough brain power in the coaches box to turn this squabble into a real threat.

Rumour mill has David Teague as an outside chance for senior coach. He would be a good get for the Suns. He's the right guy to harden up a side. He's big on getting players to train as hard as they play and improved our forward line greatly following Bickley who was pretty terrible in the role. I'd be gutted to lose him.

Sam Maclure on SEN1116 said this morning that their are whispers about a return for Ken Hinkley. Deep down i have always hoped he would return to Geelong and replace Chris Scott one day.

I'd love this. He'd make Geelong a basket case.

So a rumour kicking around this week is Evans has a two-million a year offer out to Clarkson. Heard it twice from two semi-reliable peeps.

Hope so — it'd be gross negligence if they didn't throw AFL money at a coach like that.
Based on the GC Bulletin article today, it would appear you were correct about a Suns player being involved with Amber Heard. So now I must ask - Do you have an update on the Clarkson situation that I've quoted above?

I see Rocket has suggested we need an "experienced" coach
This may or may not be directed at Solomon
I wondered a few times over the past year or so whether his assistant coaches were actively white anting him?
It's a pity Eade wasn't given carte blanche to bring in his own coaching team.Might have made all the difference.
If youre considering experienced coaches then it's really Voss Barker and the rumored but unlikely Scott Hinkley Clarkson
The Board really has to get this right.
They gave Rocket basically 2 years given we're told his card was marked 3 games into this season
In that time he had to cut away a huge amount of dead flesh , resuscitate the patient and teach it to walk again
Anyway, it's done now but the next coach has to be better and we have to have better luck as a Club with players and injury

No, not much else to go on really. It came from a couple guys I'm not too close with but seem to be semi-connected. And before the Eade news.

I'd be near certain an Evans/Clarkson conversation has taken place, but doubt we'll hear 'real' dollar figures or confirmation either way unless Clarkson all of a sudden ends up our coach.

The Amber Heard info — Rock solid [emoji14]

Clayton's recruiting has been fine. He's not responsible for the injuries or the game plans.
He's solely the reason we have a terrible list.
Took 6 years to work out that Tape, Russell and Bull weren't up to it.
Still has Shaw, McKenzie and others clogging up the list.
Unlike GWS who continually turned their list over until they got it right, Clayton can never admit that he got something wrong, He hoards onto players who aren't up to it to our detriment.
After 7 years Witts, Lyons & Barlow should've been the icing, not the actual cake.

Unless we see dramatic improvement, I doubt Solomon will get the job. Caretaker coaches very rarely stay on and I can tell you my club fell into the trap of appointing Matthew Primus after a caretaker tenure. It ended in tears.

And then u guys got Hinkley off us and we got Primus....what a trade that was

Hinkley didn't want to leave the Suns but knew he couldn't turn down the opportunity to be the head coach of an AFL club. I remember at the time there was a bit of talk that he could takeover McKenna as head coach of the Suns because the players really respected him but the board stayed true to Bluey instead. Then Port came knocking.

Who knows what would have happened if they had installed Hinkley as head coach in 2012.

If you don't like the Coch, you shouldn't follow the Suns.

Don't like Cockrain he's a first class embarrassment. Really what nincompoop would approve a footy dept review by the footy dept boss. He and his fellow board morons totally stuffed up.

The Suns Chairman is a two faced weathervane with an incredibly annoying voice. Always grandstanding when the Suns win however when they lose he's a ghost.

Any idea of the fate of your assistant coaches? I believe that all assistant coaches have to be notified by August1 whether or not their contact is being renewed. I think that most of your support staff would be moved on.

I wonder if AFL will assist with financing a godfather offer to get a premium coach, like that did with Roos to Melbourne? Probably.

Not sure which coaches are much good, often the key assistants are more important . Port when they lost Phil Walsh and Eagles when Pyke moved on for example. Evans has probably a good idea, but whether the cream want to move on is another thing. Unsuccessful head coaches usually don't get a second chance.

When Hawks were down and Clarko got the job supposed top coaches like Wallace and Eade weren't interested . Mainly money then. Also nobody wanted to coach Bulldogs when McCartney was sacked. Bevo got them a premiership in his second year.

Anyway, good luck, but don't expect instant success.
Any chance we can have clarko?

Sorry, contracted, plus North want him. If he was interested in moving on I think the Pies might be interested in interviewing him too.

I expect that whomever you get the improvement won't be overnight.

I don't like that Barker seems to be the short priced favourite. Something about him just doesn't resonate well with me. He can have players over his house for dinner as much as he likes. Leppa from up the road did the same. Doesn't help your Coaching skills one bit.

Barker at this stage is the last guy I would want. My #1 preference at the moment is Dew. Coming from an extremely well run club and knows what it takes given his apprenticeship under Horse. Level IV cert. Roos wanted him to be successor for the Melbourne gig, and that was 4 years ago. All clubs have wanted him recently but he's said no to everyone. Until he rules himself out I will be desperately hoping he's ours.

My preferences are:
- Dew
- Caracella
- Ratten
- Scott
- Hinkley
- Bucks
- Barker

I wouldn't take to much notice of the odds at this early stage , as almost always the fave doesn't get the gig . Pyke was odds , eade was odds , things will become clearer in the next couple of weeks , would love dew but if he has knocked back other clubs it's a given he will knock this back , this is a tough gig.

Dew is due. He'd be awesome for your club. Hope you get him! I chucked a $5'er on him in hope for y'all.

My preference would obviously be a current senior coach from a rival club with the exception of Lyon and bucks. However I doubt the club has the balls or ability to lure a coach from a rival club. So in the untried market dew is definitely top of the list.

I really wonder why Dew has never wanted to step up before. He has had so many opportunities over the years, maybe he is happy as an assistant and in Sydney?

probably realises that an assistant coaching role is a bit of a safer job than a head coach. less scrutiny in his current role, probably just trying to get as much experience before giving head coaching a go.

Think exile above really nailed it. He's very happy to wait and bide his time until something he feels is perfect for him comes up. The job he has at Sydney is probably very nice for him.

He ruled himself out of the Brisbane job, and given our state I'm not sure we'd be any more alluring. But always nice to hope!

Apparently keen on the melbourne succession job but Sydney kicked up a fuss so he stayed. The roles that were available seemed like poison chalais's in the main. I rekon this time around the GC one is a cracker. Key players have recontracted, you have some good up and coming youth. Only need a gun mid or two and you'll be golden. I'd froth for this job if I was a good coach wanting to make my mark. If rocket has cleaned out the culture issues you guys are in a good place to get going. Trade out Ablett (I think his religion stuff brings different cultural divides to your group that outway his onfield value for the club at this point imo) and get two high end mids to replace him and you'll be golden. I'm still hoping Bowes or Brodie can have a monster preseason and step up again next year. Tudor is the one I don't get? Had he said he's out of the race? Supposedly abit of a tactical genius. I'd want Dew or Tudor over any other - look what Bevo did for our club and he had much the same plaudits about him before he arrived as those two. Anyway - good luck - feel like your club deserves some after some of the idiot stuff you've managed to clean out :thumbsu:
