Cocaine importation increase Australia

“Like this seizure, forensic drug profiling of cocaine found here in Australia continues to show most originates from Colombia and other areas of South America,” Det Supt Watson said.

“The illicit cultivation of coca bush in these areas significantly impact upon local indigenous communities and nearly half is carried out in areas with special environmental protection status.

“The reality is that by partaking in both the importation or recreational use of cocaine here and overseas, you are supporting the proliferation of serious crime around the world and the devastation of other people’s lives,” Det Supt Watson said."

"Cocaine production requires soaking harvested coca leaves in gasoline and other chemicals like ether, sulfuric acid, ammonia to allow the extraction of cocaine hydrochloride. The gasoline and solvents are then drained and the cocaine base solidifies into a paste, which is cooked until the liquid and other chemicals have evaporated, producing "bricks" containing cocaine hydrochloride.

Those bricks are packed and further sold and processed with additional chemicals like hydrochloric acid, ammonia and potassium salt to create powder cocaine".

Just think for a minute how much drugs would be available without the war and if they weren't illegal. Look at how many people drink and smoke, the damage that's done. The war is a success and money well spent IMO.

The popularity and access to Cocaine is the highest it's ever been, ever.

¨War on Drugs¨ what a great success :):):):):):):):):):):):):)

"There has been a staggering increase in attempts to import cocaine into Australia via the west coast, with police last week seizing $225 million..

"The trio from Queensland, aged 29, 49 and 32, were arrested and charged with possessing a commercial quantity of drugs, with ABF Commander Ranjeev Maharaj saying attempts to import cocaine into Australia was at unprecedented levels."

“Last financial year, the ABF made more than 4000 detections of cocaine at the border, which represents an increase of 166 per cent from the previous year,” he said."

“Cocaine is highly addictive and places significant pressure on the Australian healthcare system,” he said.

“Across Australia there were 1800 cocaine-related hospitalisations in 2020-21 – almost five every day on average.”

"Trafficking has become a lucrative trade for some seafarers in Montenegro, a former Yugoslav republic of some 630,000 people steeped in maritime history but which for decades has served as a transit point for illicit cigarettes and drugs.

According to official data, since 2018, Montenegrin sailors have been arrested in seven separate police operations around the world, involving the seizure of more than 30 tonnes of drugs"

Looks revolting.

"Commander Chin said attachments under the water had been regularly noticed by law enforcement over the past two decades.

"This concealment method is not new, and this seizure is another case of law enforcement remaining one step ahead of criminals attempting to bring harmful, illicit drugs into our country and into our community,”

Someone at the ABC has had a look at the waste water reports as well. Problem is heroin in Victoria.

This is a little bit off topic, but following up on your post kurve:

"Sydneysiders consume the most cocaine, Melburnians the most heroin, Darwin ranks highest for alcohol while cannabis is most popular in Hobart, wastewater analysis reveals."

"Sydneysiders consumed the most cocaine, MDMA and nicotine while Melburnians had the most heroin, fentanyl and ketamine.

Methylamphetamine was most popular in Adelaide, the highest amount of alcohol was detected in Darwin while the largest amounts of cannabis and oxycodone were found in Hobart."

"Perth ranked first for MDA use and the second-highest heroin and oxycodone use was in the ACT.

Of all regional areas, NSW residents used the most cocaine and fentanyl while the highest amounts of MDMA and oxycodone were found in Queensland."

"The most MDA was detected in regional South Australia, heroin was most popular in Victoria and the highest cannabis and methylamphetamine consumption was in Western Australia"

I was following up on
trying to get a gauge on how big the cocaine problem was across Australia in comparison to other illicit drugs

You'd find much of it being dispersed in local suburban footy clubs every week of the footy season!!

"The AFP said the group had been the subject of a 12-month investigation which began after an aviation partner noticed "suspicious activity" in the cargo area of a passenger plane in Johannesburg.

Superintendent Cressy said it is alleged the two baggage handlers moved the illicit cargo from the baggage hold and walked it through an airport gate without going through the relevant checks."

The social acceptance of drugs rather than druggos is the context of my post.
Feels like we've discussed this before. Drugs aren't generally socially acceptable in the professions (sales and media aren't professions). Use usually reduces performance, loses money. Those who do use often end up losing a lot, including their career, family, and money. Drug users almost universally think drug use is far more prevalent than it actually is, because they hang around drug users and because it makes them feel their drug use is more accepted and less harmful than it really is, IME.
