Yeah he did his ACL, possibly from a slip in the shower.

To think the Tigers could have had Polak and pick 13, and we could have had nothing.

Question: Were we after him or were the tigers trying to offload him?

More the latter I think. They wanted to off load an inside mid for a tall, Polak wanted to go to punt road and Coughlan is a WA boy so they offered him. Not sure if we were interested in him or not, Tarrantino was always our main target.

My info was that Richmond told us not to even mention Cogs in any trades - he's off limits. They see him as a future capt of the club.

A couple of years ago he was definately being groomed as a future captain, but Wallace was looking to trade Coughlan or Tuck for an experienced KPP.

I can't believe we didn't play for Tuck. Mustn't have wanted to come over.

If the Tarrant and Solomon deals had been done by Wednesday we may have, but I'm not sure what we could have offered to richmond. Tarrant was always our number one priority, with that deal done so late it became tough to negotiate any others (with the Solomon trade completed around 30 seconds before the deadline).

Richmond have got both Polak and Simmonds for a bargain, hopefully we can stitch them up down the track.

But we got what we wanted out of both those trades, so it's not as if we lost anything. Why should we want to try and "stitch them up"?

In fact the original "talk" was Polak + pick 13 for pick 8. They ended up giving us pick 42 also, which we then used for Solomon, so we ended up doing pretty well out of that one.

The Simmonds trade is a tough one Dom. He certainly had a good year, and I guess with longmuirs knee it seems perhaps we made the wrong decision. But the three ruckman thing was ordinary. Neither Simmonds nor longmuir worked as legitimate forwards consistently. And there is no way i would supprt the club giving hime a better contract than what Richmond offered him. So farewell to the Snake man, welcome back Heath Black (I suspect the Saints would have liked more for him, though Fiora could be gun!!!). We were a better team without Snake than with him in my opinion.

On Polak, I was really disappointed the market didn't offer more for him, but I have no fear of a backline with him in it matching up on Pav, Tarrant, Murphy and Longmuir. And I just can't see that he would get a run in our current backline on a regular basis. Shame really.

Agree.

Can't see that we did badly with either of them really. You can't "win big" on every trade. If it's "win:win" then that's enough to be happy about. I think both of these trades with Richmond were.

Sorry, I should have been more clear on the Simmonds trade. I didn't mean that we got a bad deal, but it was a fantastic trade from the tigers point of view to get Simmonds for Fiora. Luckily Blacky wanted to come "home" so we got a fair trade, otherwise we would have ended up with Fiora or something similar for a handy ruckman in his prime.

Polak + 13 for picks 8 and 42 is a good deal for the tigers aslong as Polak stays out of trouble. If Polak's off field exploits weren't common knowledge then we would have got a lot more for him, at 24 and with a lot of games under his belt he is ready to take the next step. The fact that Polak would have struggled to get a game for us is irrelevent, because there are plenty of teams screaming out for talls.

True. Did you read the article where Polak said that he spoke to Richmond on the clubs trip to the GF? I think it was Polak's decision to go to Richmond that hurt us in trade negotiations, as well as their position in the PSD. I actually have little respect for him.

He would have known that he needed to pull his finger out for a couple of seasons now, and train and behave professionally. The Coach made a decision to play players on their merit and form rather than play talented players to get games into them. Polak lost out in that scheme of things, and instead of busting his gut to cement a place remained in cruise control. That would have been a factor in what his trade value actually ended up being as well.

Walker for Tuck would have been superb IMO. Not sure if Richmond would have gone it.

I can't see a problem with what we have done. We haved moved on players that had been overtaken from within the squad and replaced them with one that has yet to be squeezed out (Black) and one that should be better (Tarrant) and one that will add presence (Solly).

Certainly agree with you about the lack of respect for him, and I'm looking forward to round 11. Getting booed would be water off a ducks back for most footballers but I think it will get to Polak.

Don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that Polak and Connolly had a falling out because Polak was assured that Croad would stay at the club and felt betrayed when he was traded. Seems a funny thing to fallout over, but Polak's form did seem to fall away after Croad left.

That's no surprise, I'll fall off my seat if you ever criticise the club Ripper! ;)

Only time will tell if the Tarrant + Solomon deals were good value for the club. We weren't screaming out for another forward and a halfback/half forward, but both should definately bring something to the side. If Tarrant plays well and/or we win a flag then it was a good deal, but if we struggle or Tarrant fails to have an influence then we should have really loaded up in the draft.

Geez I know they shared a house together, but that's a little OTT....

Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

Yeah, those long distance relationships never work.
