Have to say Id forgoten he played so many games for us.Getting up towards 100 games for both clubs , I wonder which way a F/S would be steered?
Anyway , - we got Mooney picks 15,17 and 47 which gave us Spriggs,Bray and Enright.Watching Enright play and knowing what Mooney can do , I think most would say we are ahead. I know when he left, he left us for dead etc but considereing what we got, that we have just gone to 30,000 members and are healthy, that he will not be a Premiership player are we ready to forgive. I know every year the crowd has given it too him , it seemed to raise his level so it probably doesnt worry him but its done and we probably should remember those 106 games rather than the way it finished. I remember at KP when he ran with Harvey , when he was at his peak, and beat him.
What do we think?

BRENT DIAMOND

KANGAROO veteran Leigh Colbert may be playing his final game at Skilled Stadium this Sunday as he contemplates retiring at the end of the season.
The former Cat, who played 105 games in the blue and white hoops, has endured an injury-plagued career in which he has managed just 196 matches over 13 seasons.
``I'll give it another three months and see how I'm going from there,'' Colbert said.
``I want to stand up for more than 15 games hopefully this year so I can get through the season and teach and help the next crop of players coming through.''
It has been a rollercoaster ride for the courageous defender who suffered a severe pancreas injury in 2003 and missed all 1999 season with a serious knee injury, when he had just been made Geelong captain at the age of 23.
He has enjoyed an injury-free pre-season and has played all eight matches so far this season.
``I am actually enjoying training, it's a bit modified for me these days but I am enjoying getting through unscathed,'' he said.
Colbert plays an integral part of the Kangaroos defensive line-up and continues to show the courage which made him such a popular player at Geelong between 1993-99.
At the end of the 1999 season, Colbert told the club he wished to be traded and got his wish with a trade to the Kangaroos for Cameron Mooney and three draft selections - David Spriggs (15), Ezra Bray (17), Corey Enright (47). ``Playing in a premiership team is every footballers dream, it wasn't an easy decision to leave Geelong because it's a great place and a great team but I just needed a fresh start after that year,'' he said.
``There's always a bit of discomfort when you play against your old side but it's been six years ago now so it's not really a big topic anymore.''
Colbert presently mentors the younger Roos and is thrilled with the development shown by 21-year-old defender Eddie Sansbury, who played 10 games in his debut season last year.
``I definitely enjoy seeing the guys develop and now go on and become great league footballers and it is enjoyable when you know you have had some part in their life,'' he said.
``It would be terrific for the Kangaroos to play finals football again because there's a great culture down here. We . . . have a hard-working and talented young team.''

Bottom line, if 20,000 of the 25,000 there on Sunday do nothing, but 5,000 boo him, it will still seem like he is hated by all and sundry. Over it.

Long time to carry a grudge though. Hell, we welcomed Wayne Carey back. Two years later.

He was arguably your best player in your history and made a huge contribution in you guys winning two flags

..and ripped the club a new a-hole by having a long affair with his best mates, premiership teamates wife causing our best ever coach to move on. The games biggest name resigned in disgrace, leaving us closer to death than ever before. How we survived I really don't know. The bloke still hasn't actually said sorry.

=

Standing ovation at a club function.

In half the time, we moved on. Peter Bell was given a second chance at North, was part of two premierships, went to the B+F and announced he was going to WA for more money. He recieved massive applause that night!!.

People can do what they like. Doesn't bother me, and it certainly doesn't bother Leigh.

I just find the whole thing rather puzzling.

LOL..if that is what you want to believe

I couldnt give a rats poo bum about Colbert. If he ever came back to the club for some reason I wouldnt care. Hell he got his comeuppance when he shattered his knee, poor bloke, was never the same again.

Didn't he do his knee before he left..?

Ignore him Northbhoy.

I'll never understand or agree with the way Leigh did some things when leaving, but i still love and respect the bloke.

As a footballer he's the epitomy of courage and hard work, and off the field he's as nice a bloke as you'll find.

Never wished any ill will on him.

Sorry i nver wished anything bad on him. I didnt write it exactly as i meant it. But I meant it to read. If he ever came back the the club i wouldnt care, I would be happy to have him back. He is a good bloke. It was too long ago to hold a real grudge.

Colbert was a 100 game player who just happened to be captain and walked out without ever captaining the club. He wanted out I dont hate him for it I dont think he was ever going to be a Carey or an Ablett so he will never get a standing ovation at any club function the way that these other top player would .

He left we got Ezra Bray what more could we ask for.

As far as I'm concerned, he wanted success elsewhere, chased it and has never realised his full potential. The club kept him while he had a knee reconstruction (as captain) and he decided to leave once fit again. So the only appropriate ending I can think of is us having a massive win and Ottens or Playfair (or anyone else) thrashing the pants off him. Life is rarely that good however.

Football isn't about forgiveness, it's about winning.

Leigh has said he may fully devulge why he left the footy club once he is out of the game. As it stands and on face value, no-one (even Leigh) wonders why he cops what he does. I think we have done this enough.

Well he must be relieved he wont have a kid in his first season kick 3 in a quarter on him like last years match.

I have a lot of time for Leigh as a player, but I'll never understand what could make a man walk out on the club he was captain of.
Did some senior players upset him or did he fancy his premiership chances at north? I'd like to hear the full story one day.

It has never worried me that he left. If a player want's to go let 'em go as long as we get adequate compensation.

Think we did exceptionally well in the trade deal for a player with a bung knee.

He was the made the captian of the Club in 1999, was getting over 500 a year when we couldn't make a buck, didn't play a game in the whole season then left cause he wanted to be succesfull, lets hope we give the send off he deserves.

He left for money, and went to a club with $7.50 to it's name that payed him less..?

Right.

It did hurt plenty at the time...as it should I guess.

Maybe the biggest mistake was making him captain in the first place? If he disliked like the club culture\certain senior players\whatever it was enough to jump ship, how did we end up making him our team leader???

It would have been a tough ask, to be made the C with Stoneham, Budda etc still on the list. Why did Blighty clean house when he went to Adelaide? He wanted to be leader without any White Anting, It MAY have been something like this , him feeling that he was not given the respect he thought he would have automatically be given, the others thinking they were more senior and just as deserving and in the end he looked like the bad guy cause he left. Imagine, another 5 years of King and then giving the C to Tom Lonergan, over looking all the guys curerntly in the leadership group that have years on him.
