It is always a confusing topic to know when a player's contract is up when it fails to appear easily by the click of a mouse. I thought we can gather a 99% accurate thread on the Pies players contracts for future reference.

Please include a source of some kind to help establish its reliability rather than generalisation

I would've thought Clarke got an extended contract after being elevated, as his contract when drafted would've been titled a rookie contract, and the elevation would settle a 2-year (therefore one year extension) contract.

Any light on this?

Sadly, the Gold Coast get the choice of the uncontracted players at the end of 2010 as they enter the comp in 2011. We need players tied to 2011 to be safe.

Didak would not want to be traded. If the Pies trade him I will not renew my membership.

to me all these young blokes seem to have a good feel amongst themselves and look to work well together

would be a total shame that we lose didak just after he explodes into the upper echelon of midfielders

Certain players will simply not leave because they have been black and white their whole lives. That is they were Collingwood supporters when they were younger or were drafted under the father-son rule.

Examples of this are:
Heath Shaw, Rhyce Shaw, Travis Cloke, Dane Swan, Cameron Wood, Jaxson Barham, Brad Dick, Ben Johnson and Simon Prestigiacomo.

Collingwood have drafted very intelligently this way.
I'm sure when two players are of similar calibre we make a decision to go for the Collingwood boy.

Also we drafted Pendles, Thomo and I think Goldsack who all played together as juniors.
Now we have two irishman as well.
Much of our drafting seems to be based on securing players long term.

Also Didak will not leave, he has way too much history with the club now.
He wanted to go home for the first two years, but when the Port deal for Stevens was supposed to happen, he was completely opposed to the idea of moving.

Nothing has been decided about drafting/trading rules for the new clubs.
The documents that are circulating are drafts for discussion only.
The clubs have to submit their variations to the draft before a final 'agreed' set of rules are put in place

My guess would be that the new club(s) will allowed to sign uncontracted players. The player will have to agree of course. The club losing the player may get compo al la Essendon and WCE when they were able to get Lloyd and Wirrpuna as 17 year olds for losing hacks. If so there will be opportunities for strategic contract disputes.
