Good Work P4L.

I think the draft is unpredictable, as you can see - Scott Burns being no.90 and a star, wheras Presti is not the player you would think was a no.10 draft pick. You got to look at the others - Nixon, Roach - all first round picks.

Trades: (One way or another we could have had the below players had we not made these deals- some we did and we traded them, mainly looking at draft picks that were traded)
Nathan Buckley-Chris Scott
James Clement/Brodie Holland-Luke Power/Adam McPhee
Leon Davis- Andrew Schauble
Brent Hall- Heath Scotland
Paul Licuria- Nic Fosdike
Chad Morrison- Mark LeCras
Guy Richards- Ricky Olarenshaw/Daniel Motlop
Anthony Rocca- BenWilson/Mark Orchard/Brett O'Farrell/Will Sangster
Andrew WIlliams- Damien Adkins
Shane Woewodin- Daniel Bell

Nathan Buckley would have been the Number 1 Draft Pick in his year, were it not for the zone concession Brisbane had (their zone still assumed he was NT even though he played for Port Adelaide...people wonder why Bucks was annoyed to go north).

Early 90's Era Draft Top 10's:
1992 Draft Top 10:
1 Drew Banfield West Coast
2 Nathan Chapman Brisbane
3 Michael Prior Essendon
4 Justin Leppitsch Brisbane
5 Jason Spinks Sydney
6 Robert Pyman North Melbourne
7 Wayne Hernaman Richmond
8 Paul Symmonds West Coast
9 Martin Pike Melbourne
10 Brett Chalmers Collingwood

1993 Draft Top 10:
1 Darren Gaspar Sydney
2 Nigel Lappin Brisbane
3 Justin Murphy Richmond
4 Glenn Gorman Sydney
5 Adam Heuskes Sydney
6 Trent Cummings Fitzroy
7 Chris Johnson Fitzroy
8 Michael Frost St Kilda
9 Rowan Warfe Fitzroy
10 Trent Ormond-Allen Melbourne

*What's so sad about this draft is, three of the next four picks contained Brad Johnson, Chris Scott and Adam Simpson*

1994 Draft Top 10: (Possibly one of the best top 10's of the era)
1 Jeff White Fremantle
2 Anthony Rocca Sydney
3 Shannon Grant Sydney
4 Scott Lucas Essendon
5 Joel Smith St Kilda
6 Robert McMahon Fitzroy
7 Tony Brown St Kilda
8 Daniel Harford Hawthorn
9 Ben Wilson Collingwood
10 Blake Caracella Essendon

1995 Draft Top 10: (*Cough Cough*)

4 Scott Bamford Fitzroy
5 Brendan Krummel Hawthorn
6 Daniel Healy St. Kilda
7 Ben Edwards Fremantle
8 Jared Crouch Sydney
9 Allen Jakovich Footscray
10 Simon Prestigiacomo Collingwood

1996 Draft Top 10: (*I won't say a word.... :D )

Collingwood's First (Round) Draft Picks - 1986-2004

1986: Grantley Feike - 16 games
1987: Graham Wright - 201 games, 2nd Brownlow Medal 1990
1988: Mark Bayliss - 4 games
1989: Murray Wrensted - 10 games
1990: Jason McCatney - 38 games
1991: Kane Purcell - 0 games (2nd round draft pick)
1992: Brett Chalmers - 0 games
1993: Stephen Patterson - 96 games
1994: Ben Wilson - 2 games
1995: Simon Prestigiacomo - 143 games
1996: Brent Tuckey - 19 games
1997: Chris Tarrant - 127 games - Leading Goalkicker 2001-04, All-Aust 2003
1998: Nick Davis - 71 games
1999: Josh Fraser - 108 games, Danny Roach - 1 game
2000: Alan Didak - 67 games
2001: Richard Cole - 51 games
2002: Bo Nixon - 3 games
2003: Billy Morrison - 0 games
2004: Chris Egan - 0 games

I think we can see there, that we have had no luck, besides Tarrant as Fraser Didak and Presti are all not top 10 draft pick players, as yet - when you think about it.

i cant remember back to when he was drafted, but did Jason attract any attention from Richmond? or could we have not selected him and let him slip through and maybe have picked him up as a cheaper pick?

I'm pretty sure back then you had to use a 2nd round pick for a father/son.

It really does show how unpredictable the draft is. It all comes down to how fast the players mature.
Rocca pick 2. Worth it??
Clive Waterhouse worst number 1 ever...... ever!
