Goldsack has had his break, and returns for O'Loughlin Bath II.

IN: Buckley, Clarke, Goldsack, Fraser
OUT: Johnson (susp.), Cook, Maxwell (no matchup), Bryan

This might be right, in which case he'll probably go forward. No way he gets dropped, has been in the best the last 3 weeks.

Depending on how they plan on using Buckley, drop either R.Shaw/Rusling. Agree with the rest, although wouldn't mind seeing Stanley or Cox instead of Goldsack either. Maybe even Stanley for O'Bree, if we want to gamble a little bit.

I see your point re: Maxwell. Can't see them dropping O'Bree though, he makes a huge difference in our centre clearances.

IN: Buckley, Clarke, Fraser

OUT: Johnson, Cook, Richards

Cook has played well and has had a taste now however Clarke is far superior.

Richards had a good game last night... but its Richards and if Fraser is fit then he has to go...

Agree with this

Bryan is much better around the ground, against the "Jolly Spider" combination

Marty must return

Maybe you are thinking the glass is half empty...

No matchup for Maxwell could leave him as a problem for Sydney and he has proven he can kick goals....

Old saying goes...
It is not whether the glass is half full or half empty but how much is left in the bottle which matters....and Maxwell has a lot of bottle.

Almost forgot, we have a good record against Sydney and I hope we maintain the ascendency this week...a win would see us locked in with a shot a top 4 finish...not bad for a team who lost two dead certain walkovers in the last three weeks.

B: H. O'Brien, S. Wakelin, N.Maxwell
HB: H. Shaw, J. Clement, R. Shaw
C: M. Clarke, D. Stanley, T. Lockyer
HF: A. Didak, T. Cloke, L.Davis
F: S. Rusling, A. Rocca, P. Medhurst
Foll: J Fraser, S. Pendlebury, D.Swan

I/C: C. Bryan, N.Buckley, S. Burns, D. Thomas

Emergencies: Goldsack, O'Bree, Wellingham

Thats what I would do, but I think O'Bree will hold his place at Stanley's expense.

I reckon we're doing alright when the liks of Cox, Reid and Dawes are probably a fair way off senior selection.

I'd like to see Jimmy get fitter asap, he'd be close to omission otherwise.

Clement - Hall
Wakes - Everitt/Jolly when resting as they do up forward
Maxwell - Micky O
Harry - O'Keefe (Harry will need to get on his bike to go with him)
Heath to take Nick Davis - Nick won't have the hear to chase him and Heath will hurt them on the rebound
Rhyce to take Fosdike or whoever else they move into that half forward role.

If Maxwell is the guy to kick goals, we should drop one of Rusling/Medhurst/Didak, whose job it is to kick goals. Maxwell has pretty much shown he's not a defender, so what is he? I can't help but think if it wasn't for his celebrated "leadership qualities", he wouldn't be in the side.

Personally, I would drop Rusling. He showed he was still a good lead last week, but also showed he was still poor at ground level. Maxwell reminds me a lot of a Hamill-type guy...crashes in, puts on great sheperds, tackles, etc...doesn't show up on the stat sheet, but very valuable.

Edit: Btw, I think that we have certain duplication issues in Rusling/Reid down the road. Can't see both of them playing in the same forward line at the moment.

That ain't going to improve in a hurry. If you're going to drop him for it, you may as well trade him. As he's under contract until the end of 2009, that's pretty unlikely.

Well, I was never in the Rusling fan-club tbh...I think he's a great option when our midfield is flying, but he becomes totally useless when everything's not going our way.
If he was at least a good tackler and added something defensively I wouldn't be so worried, but his lateral movement is still amazingly slow. I just can't understand how someone so fast in a straight line can turn so slowly.

Rusling won't be dropped, but now that I think about it, he should be.

Not on form, but against the Floods he will have zero space to lead into, and this will be a problem.

Bucks into the pocket, Goldy or Cox onto the bench ;)

(not getting into the Maxwell discussion, I think he's a quality defender)

I'd change this a little.

Maxwell - Nick Davis, because he wont leave the forward 50.
Harry - Micky O, Maxwell isn't athletic enough to go with him.
Shaw - O'Keefe, Rather this guy be stopped than having rebound. Clement, Rhyce and Tarkyn could handle that i think.

Just because Rusling can't lead doesn't mean he should be dropped? Surely?

He has a massive upper body and should be able to win some one on ones.

No, Rusling can lead, he does so very well. It's the other stuff, particularly defensive work that is a concern. He's certainly not a one-on-one player.

Rusling is not perfect however he adds another dimension to our forward line!

Cloke and Rocca will take the oppositions best defenders, leaving Rusling to roam free... Furthermore I thought that Rusling was trying hard in applying pressure in the forward line Friday night.

Rusling wont be dropped and I think if Sydney chooses to flood... they will lose the game.

The Royal one is right, bring back the sack, Goldsack that is. On the same vein whilst Rusling will probably go alright lets cast our minds back to round 12 was it? Whateva. The Pies did the Swanees quite well in all areas and the final score was only 17 points or whateva it was because of some goals during time on. Since then the Swanees have improved slightly and we have gone backwards slightly, intrestingly Lockyer said on ABC radio the other night that they are coming off a heavy training load and starting to freshen up, so IMHO it would be madness to mess with the basic unit that defeated the Swans last time. If my memory serves me, there was no Clement and obviously no #5. A couple out for these 2 is no biggy, but otherwise lets not go 2 crazy because Rusling is back, stick with the unit that did the Swans last time and insert a couple of tried and tested reinforcements.

MM's mantra is horses for courses

Licca is a tough slow hard working midfielder, Sydney is full of tough slow working midfielders!

Licca is perfect for the game against Sydney.......after that is another story!

Licca, Bucks, Fraser all in for the swans game

B.Johnson, Richards, Cook out

Stanley in for Licuria. Stanley deserves his chance. Play him and put him in the centre square. Lica is finished, the sooner we realise this the better.
