Thoughts?

One of the problems we've had in recent years is assistant coaches going off to take on Senior Coaching Roles before our season is over (ie: Brad Scott and Mark Neeld).

That's not a good thing to have happen in the middle of a finals series.

At least now with development line managers shadowing the assistant coaches, it creates a natural succession plan should this happen again. :thumbsu:

We have a WA recruiting manager who would have been very busy in recent years.

And an SA recruiting manager who, um, when was the last time we recruited anybody from the SANFL? Even Buckley and Wood came via Brisbane.

No NEAFL zone recruitment manager despite a lot of our recent recruits coming from that zone? (Beams, Yagmoor, Witts, Hartley)

There seem to be a few omissions from the list - eg: No Rucking coach? No Player Welfare people?

And yet you'd reckon that if the PhD student is listed then the list would be complete?

Rusling was recruited from South Australia. I don't recall too many others though. It's also interesting to note that most of our WA players have been rookie listed and not taken in the national draft. One theory is the risk involved with interstate players at higher picks. Hine has a pattern of picking up Victorian players in the national draft with our live picks.

Also i'm sure our recruiting network is larger than that officially listed on the site. I recall Hine making mention of that in "Side by side" iirc. I believe we have by far the largest recruiting network in the competition unless that has changed in recent years.

Also interesting to note we still haven't officially listed a ruck coach. Although recent training reports suggest that Barnes has been taking care of this at training? Maybe an oversight on the Pies site.

Simon Lloyd used to take care of that from reports although not sure if that was an official part of his job description. In fact can't recall what his job title was now? Not sure if that role has transferred to his successor or not.

In any case you would imagine the player psychologist may also play a large role in that area. Thats just speculation though.

High Performance Manager from memory?

So his successor would be David Stiff who is also Player Psychology.

Would have thought Player Welfare would be a different kind of role? - Eg: helping interstate and country kids assimilate. Smooth the way for kids who have left home for the first time.

With Stiff on board, what a shame we lost Cox and Dick!
Also understand why football is becoming an expensive business when you see the list of names and roles.
Anthony Rocca as defence development seems odd. Tarkyn Lockyer gets another shot at VFL coach so will be interested to see his development.
