AFL Club
Collingwood
Ok before I commence I would like to say that I am a big admirer of Nathan Buckley but no one is bigger than our club
Collingwood is the biggest club in the land and we will not put up with mediocrity for very long.

Firstly lets discuss the Malthouse - Buckley handover.
Malthouse although not the easiest person to get along with has his faults ,but he had the respect of most of the players he coached at Pie land.If he was left as coach could we have flaged back to back 2010-11 if we didn't have the public airing about contracts etc ?.....He knew his time was limited and he threw the spanner in the works result we lost the 11 flag ! I believe if things were more settled maybe we would have won the flag gone back to back,It was alarming then we we got smashed by Geelong last round by 80 points that things we not right moving into finals.I know buckley has addressed this about the derailing of the season ,but maybe the fact that players knew Malthouses tenure was coming to an end that some of our key players like dids,Thomas,Jolly, shaw etc threw in the towel even before the finals started,Geelong were licking their lips the rest is history. I understand that yes we had players with injuries but so did Geelong and the rest of the teams in the finals that year.
Had we had left Malty as head coach maybe the players would have given that extra 5% to get over the line and gone back to back,Malty may have gotten another flag between 11 and 14 and he would have been content to hand over the reigns now.......We will never know but yes this could have been a possibility don't you think?
Ok we have Buckley now moving into his 4th season as Pies coach. Here is a rookie coach with virtually no AFL experience doing his apprenticeship with the biggest club in the land.
Bucklley was an excellent player has got a very good footy brain and its surprising that for a exquisite player who now coaches the biggest club in the land the team he has currently cant hit the side of a barn yard door nor do they know how to execute a game plan. This year the players looked lost out there kicking skills were poor and the injuries well. One would think a player of buckleys calibre would recruit only players with great skills yes ?.......No ! Why?

I will tell you why.Because its not all Buckleys fault its the crappy people surrounding him.I stated this a week ago in another thread.
Aside from Scott Burns clear out all the assisistants and start again.Go to the 3 top clubs and rip their hearts out pronto. Also our sports science dept and development depts. rip them apart and go and get the best for goodness sake Davaron is shite......Can you hear me out there? He is shite ! He has to go he is a tri- athlete sports science guy he cannot find the balance between for a strong training regime for afl players look at his track record tell us everything wake up Eddie !
Good point this year,,,is that Buckley has introduced 17 new kids
Bad Point... Too many injuries and players don't seem to understand the game plan.Whats the game plan can anyone tell me?
Because if we do not fix theses areas forget the players but we would have set ourselves backwards 10 years
Here is my question to everyone out there. If we donnot change things pronto will this current regime have set our club back 10 years ?..........Ok armchair specialists throw in your two bobs worth !

There is many many many other threads where this could have gone.

The club is working to rectify the injury problems and thats about the size of it. What else needs to be changed? We are rebuilding and thats all there is to it. Patience my friend.

I see where you are coming from but I wouldn't necessarily bring it down to that. I'm not saying that either way is right or wrong but MM recruited a certain type of player " hard at, played to structure" everyone new the ball was going to the boundary line. so the kids recruited under his regime skill was the highest choice on his priorities. Buckley on the other hand has recruited skilled players that hopefully will work with his game plan. unfortunetly due to injury this has gone to plan. but I think regardless we need 3 more years. prior to our injury crisis we had beaten 5 of the top 8 teams so it shows when the cattle is on the park we can win.

Ok know what you mean dom, but another 3 years Buckley would be in his 7th year then. What if we are still pretty far off a flag by then that's a long time

I think all you guys are missing the points I making.
So I was right we have set ourselves back another 10 years.

Even Pert said 3 yaers to flag it.........Doesn't look that way to me

Take out any teams 1st choice Full Back and their FF/CHB for the whole season and see how they go.
Sydney: Franklin and Richards
Hawks: Roughead and Lake
Cats: Hawkins and Taylor
Freo: Pavlich and McPharlin

Oh, and Malthouse has sent Carlton further down the ladder than Buckley has this season.

he gets another 4 as it took malthouse 11 years. lol. nah but in all seriousness as the coaches would say it's horses for courses. the club has chosen the " rebuild " path and I think that it needs to see it through. but with that said 7 years would be max. I really don't believe that things are that bad, the wheels feel off a bit this year which can be attributed to a number of things. keep the faith I say ;)

Carlton said 4 years ago they expect 2 flags in the next 5 years lol they were way off. Pert is doing it now and I think it is pretty dumb for someone who is involved internally with the club and knows everything to say we will win a flag in the next two years now.

We just finished 11th, we are not winning the flag for maybe another 2 years on top of the next two years. He is being selfish by giving fans false hope. He is a real business man, who is after revenue and wants the membership numbers to keep rising to 100 000 in the next 3 years or whatever it was.

Stuff your memberships, worry about maintaining what you already have and worry about the on field performance before you worry about getting 100 000 members.

Malthouse may have sent them further down the ladder but in the second half of the year they have a solid grasp of his game plan and the players know what is expected of them within that style of play.

Like it or not, Carlton are trending upwards, we are going backwards at a rate of knots.

Carlton will be a better side than us next year.

Let's just agree to disagree then.

If Malthouse was coaching us in 2012, Davis would have stayed and we would have won another premiership.

Hawthorn were a 6-goal better team than us that year, Sydney were ahead of us too. You're not telling us Leon would have made up that difference all by himself, are you?

If Leon was still playing, Krakouer wouldn't have done his knee because they are mates and that would have affected space and time. So we would be 2 players better.

Losing Leon definetly hurt the team but it is difficult to see that it would have made that much difference.

When I think of players that we delisted, I then look at where they are now?
Davis, Krakouer, Dids (loved him), just to name three, if they were still best 22, why didn't another team pick them up?

Foot skills would allot better. When foot skills are better structures are better. With better foot skills it gives more flexibility to play 2 rucks like Hawthorn so we wouldn't have to waste our time with Dawes.

Not now, in 2012

Not doubting that but Hawthorn and Sydney were ahead of us.
