I think the following list changes with approximate salaries shall be freed up come October 31st this year:
1. Scott Pendlebury: retire with ($650,000)
2. Steele Sidebottom: retire with ($600,000)
3. Nathan Murphy: likely enforced concussion retirement ($550,000)
4. WHE: pushed into retirement ($475,000)
5. Nathan Kreuger: delisted ($300,000)
6. A Johnson: to be traded ($350,000)
7. A Begg: likely delisting $150,000
Total Cap Relief: $3,000,000 approx
A combo of either Carmichael, Bytel, Eyre, Markov or Sullivan whose contracts expire this year may be let go depending on form. We all know some of the above savings shall be parlayed into other existing player contract spikes for 2025 and above. But with little premium draft capital (a future 2025 first rounder only) available, the club needs to pull all remaining recruiting levers to bring in talent.

Ollie Florent: top player
Harry Perryman: underrated

I think it’s about 300k each for Grundy and treloar..

(1) If you have Pendles, Sidebottom and WHE retire at the same time, we’re no longer in the hunt.
(2) Ordinarily I’d have thought Howe would retire before Pendlebury will, but Pendlebury has been very strange this year. His game has been OKish but certainly not great. But his playing for free kicks and tummy taps have just been bizarre.

I doubt we'll have a war chest. We will only have next years first to play with also. FA would be our best bet in 2025.
We need a proven centre square midfielder and beyond that should target first round draft pick players not presently getting much of a chance at AFL level at clubs that have stacked their lists thanks to draft concessions and/or preferential regional academies ie Gold Coast, GWS, Brisbane, Sydney and Kangaroos.
Some of those clubs will soon have big salary cap problems and may need to offload players at below market rates eg Gold Coast sending Bowes to Geelong with pick 7 attached in 2022.
Will also be interesting to see if any senior Lions players want out after the damage done on their Vegas trip.
