Universal Love Collingwood's plans for the future

Collingwood showed a presentation at the AGM that illustrated its plans for the future

It included stage 3 of the Westpac Centre redevelopment, showing animations of the facilities that will be created for members, supporters and the community. The target completion date is May 2015

Those interested in what's going on over at Vic Park can get a peek inside the doors to meet the tenants.

The presentation also shows the club's plans for its media centre ... TV, radio and website. Of particular interest is the "Magpie Forever" website which will be a portal for our history.

You can view the presentation on the CFC website here ...

They certainly have positioned us well for the future. I love how our profits go into improving the facilities for the footballers. The club has given the staff and players every opportunity to succeed. I think the media centre is a brilliant idea as there is so much media content these days and we would have previously had to hire outsiders to get it done

The thing I think is most positive is about the news is the development of a sports and events complex. I hope this includes an area where people can come together and socialise. That is the thing I would most like to see is the club to actively encourage and support the community aspect of our club.

would love to see a type of museum getting set up at Vic with all our memorabilia which could be possibly opened up to the public when VFL games are on, family days etc

When the new stage 3 Westpac development is open May 2015 then it'll house the hospitality facilities to hold 1000 people and it'll have kitchens, bar and other catering facilities.

So that'll probably make existing member's bar / cafe area redundant then? Hmmm, whaddaya reckon we should do with that area? ;)

Love the fact they keep on referring back to the past. Rich history worthy of remembering.

Because we've never cheated!

(Salary cap breach was a mistake :p )

I think the work that the club has done in Melbourne around the MCG and Vic Park is fantastic. I suggest that they put a little planning into the interstate facilities and membership. I havent had much to do with the Western Magpies in Perth and they have limited room to operate with restrictions on access to Subiaco, but things really haven't progressed here in the last 20 years. There is website that is often months out of date and there are half a dozen "gatherings" at a pub on match days for particular games. There is a radio program on community radio during the season and I hate to be critical of the Collingwood faithful, but it is a little old and tired and could do with a few more younger and more media savvy performers. The fact is, an interstate membership in Western Australia is basically a donation to Collingwood.... which is okay but it doesnt reflect the value that people in Melbourne get from a membership.

I think that the club has fallen behind a little compared to other clubs. I realise that Hawthorn and other clubs are playing interstate on a more regular basis, but I think the club could do more in the West, and that might be the case in other states too. Having said that, the club seems to have a strategy with West Sydney and that might be the focus at present.

Indeed, it is!

Couldn't agree with you more!

I asked about this at last week's AGM ... I posted the answer in the AGM thread. I got the impression that the club intends to make more of an effort in this area.

As an interstate member (NSW) I really don't have too much to complain about. I'm guaranteed to see my team play once or twice a year. The grounds are good, I always get a ticket.

But I think the club could do so much better.

Look, if Collingwood wants to see itself as simply a Victorian club, there's nothing wrong with that. But if it aspires to be a national brand then that's a worthy pursuit and the club could be doing a lot more to achieve that.

Of course our home ground is the MCG and always will be. We should play all our home games there and it's a pity we presently don't.

I recently met somebody who has something to do with the new oval development over in Perth. I got the impression that's still a number of years away yet (2016?) and the capacity won't be a huge increase over the current Subiaco capacity (50,000?). Those numbers are off the top of my head and I could be wrong. (Do you have info?)

Collingwood has a fantastic interstate supporter base which is a great launchpad to become more of a national brand.

WA in particular poses special challenges because of limited ground capacity - but the club should be engaging with the interstate supporter base to understand what it can do better.

Having said that, the club seems to have a strategy with West Sydney and that might be the focus at present.

I did not know that (as somebody who technically lives in Western Sydney). How did you know that?

It makes sense though - it's a new market, it's a big market, there is plenty of spare capacity at both grounds we play at.

As a fan I like the idea of the website upgrade with all the historical data on our past players.

It would be cool to get a better feel for exactly how dominant the Coventries and Colliers among other all time club greats were and where they fit historically in the game along with the lesser knows few would know about unless they watched them. Really hoping they go all out with this and go above and beyond and give the greatest detail possible.

Collingwood TV also as a fan is a great initiative and is great for engaging fans and keeping them interested in the club.

Such a shame our great era of dominance wasn't properly recorded for posterity.

Looking at our premiership years from 1917 - 1936 VFL and reserves 1919 - 1925 we won 8 seniors flags and 4 reserves flags, including a doube in 1919.

Apart from our famous 4pete we won back to back flags in 1935/36 and back to back reserves flags in 1919/20 then dipped out a year and saluted again in 1922.

The great Jock McHale coached the seniors to all those successes, being playing coach in 1917 and coach for 1919/27/28/29/30/35/36.

With a bit of delving a complete record of those years could be found I imagine and I for one would pay good money to get it.

Yeah the recording of the history of the AFL is terrible.

Looking at the NBA there is so much historical information. Stats, documentaries on youtube. Debates on who the greatest were. Vision of games of players.

The AFL has so little of that and as a fan I crave that level of insight into the past players to the level where it feels like I was there during the era they played to fully appreciate what they accomplished.

Beyond this I'd like a much greater availability of stats. They don't even record the long/short kicking stats anymore. I'd love for the full list of every stat champion data put together to be publically. There is so much for other global sports - baseball, NBA among others and it's disappointed the AFL isn't keeping up with that public available of stats for fans. But that's for another topic.

Yes agreed on lack of emphasis on record keeping, most any American sitcom will show a couple of guys swapping stats over Baseball or Gridiron, even Basketball.
