Re: AFL umpires don't look as bad anymore.

As Sam Newman put it blantly after the Aus v Brasil game the umps cheated and were payed by FIFA to let the Brasillians win.

Tonight was the same situation. The umps were payed by FIFA to let Italy win the game!!!!

If that was a legit free kick i will cut my balls off and send them to Jonny Howard in recognition of how us Aussies were anal r*ped by the FIFA!!!!!!!

At the same time, Australia has to take some blame for their elimination. They were not aggressive enough. They should've put a 2nd man up front.

we had an extra man and shouldn't have let play go back down their end with under 30 seconds to go  Having said that, that fu**ing decision was OUTRAGEOUS.... fu**ing absurd

Re: Aussie Rules appreciation thread

There's a lot more things to footy than really meets the eye, but one difference I noticed with soccer is that in footy you can win a free kick by doing something constructive, i.e. take a mark. So, winning freekicks skillfully within range of the goals is the sensible attacking option. eg kick it to the full forward 25m out, & it's a goal.

Soccer doesn't have this; and the only way for a forward to apply skill to gettting a free is to fake for a free! So that's what the best get good at!!!!

Re: Aussie Rules appreciation thread

i love soccer, and i totally think we should get more aussie kids playing, because lets face it, its a game for fast short people. they wont be stealing THAT many of our talented kids. and the little blokes need something to play while the big kids play footy, the lanky kids play basketball and the beefcake kids play rugby. soccer's power is its inclusiveness

but its a game where the rules encourage you to dive and fall over anytime anyone touches you lightly. physical contests are very rare.

on top of that, bad umpiring decisions seriously and regularly effect the result of a game. in AR thats very rare

our game has the best combination of skill, speed and toughness, i reckon.

Re: Aussie Rules appreciation thread

I agree corruption in soccer is far worse than the corruption in AFL. In AFL umpires have to absolutely work their asses off to rig the result, like the umpires in the port adelaide vs stkilda game or umpire Matthew Heads match fixing attempts in the stkilda vs fremantle game last year. In soccer they only need 1 appropriately placed terrible decision and the pre-planned game result is ensured.

So from that point of view, go AFL!

should have been brought on 10-15 minutes earlier than he was though. 10 minutes from the end was not enough time.

I got the impression Guus expected it to go into extra time. Soon as they were down to 10 I knew there'd have to be a last minute calamity because the expectation was so high.
Thing is, if you're good enough you won't be put in that situation.

Yer - soccer is open to corruption and FIFA aren't snow white.

One good thing about the loss is that John Howard is 'heart broken":)

Yer **** soccer now! rigging results, how about there pretection of the Brazilians because there worth so much money!

what a disgrace, good on the Aussies for getting through to the 2nd round against Croatia, Brazil, Japan and the umpires!

disgrace!

Just ignore it. Soccer's a game for 3rd world nations. Nothing more. The umpires proved time and again that we didn't belong there. Last night I finally believed them.

I can't believe people think that sport could take over AR here, what a stupid game, what a disgrace, how could people like faking, diving ******s...

Aussie Rules #1. :)

lets hope everyone sees how corupt that sport is now, i certainly have :)

AFL: surely not in trouble?

How could our great game be threatened by soccer? it's corupt and soft.

FIFA basically said to us **** off we don't want you here! got to protect the highly paid Brazilians. good stuff by the Socceroos to get into the 2nd round against the odds (cough umpires)

Can't wait for the weekend to see our game on show again. :thumbsu:

I won't support a sport that obviously dosn't want us.

Aussie Rules #1 :)

Re: AFL: surely not in trouble?

I like soccer but I can guarantee the media coverage will dry up for our Asian Cup qualifiers and only a small percentage of people will follow the team from here on in.

When I spoke to people about the Confed Cup last year they were like "Really? Australia plays in that?". I'm not saying it'll be the same for the Asian Cup qualifiers but the level of interest won't be maintained.

Australian rules will be the leader in the market for many years to come.

Hmmm - Loyd, Buckley, ........

You'll love this then.

"This World Cup is littered with cheats, cry babies and drama queens. Of course, respect for the referee, the rules, the fans and the game itself is the biggest difference between the two sports. What sort of love and respect is there for Pele's 'Beautiful Game' when the end seems to justify the means?"

From UK's Telegraph newspaper today. The other sport is RU.

Yes it does happen in the AFL, i think they need to start fining players for faking, but it happens a lot more in soccer and has a big impact on the game...also how about that player from Ghana i think it was, got a penalty for diving which was proven to be another disgraceful decision against the USA (i think it wa that match???)

Also i thought it was funny when the USA player got beaten so he faked a leg injury, got taken off the field, and came back minutes later.

Its like watching the Benny Hill show seeing those guys running around with the stretcher every 5 minutes and carrying players off because they have an ingrown hair:D

Good to see all you haters licking your chops. i bet Mantits was jumping around celebrating last night as not only was it a victory for the italians last night but in mantits eyes this was a victory for the afl.

Lets put into perspective people, Aussie Rules is qually as bad when it comes to the people officiating the games. The umpires get many things wrong in every singel game on every weekend.

The Soccer world cup promises so much. Lots of countries playing against each other in the most popular football code in the 3rd (and maybe 1st) world.

But at the end of the day, the game is as boring as bat-sh1t. "Fans" follow their country out of nationalistic pride until they are knocked out, then move on to something else. Just watch Australia lose interest in the rest of the tournament.

Football world cup: Great idea. Bad implementation.

Dont know about everyone else but every time Australia went forward the Italian defence was THAT good I didnt get filled with any confidence that we could score. On the other hand the handful of times Italy went forward they looked very damaging.

Australia looked like West Coast (Got the ball close to goal but unable to score) while Italy looked like Adelaide (Unbelievable defence with little patches of flair going forward).

Cruel way to be knocked out of the Cup but now lets get back to the REAL GAME and the game we LOVE!

P.S. How long has this bloody split round taken to finish!!!!!! - Its like "HURRY UP!"

Can you imagine playing AFL for 2 hours without any team scoring....

and in the last minute it was up to a white maggot to get a call right to decide a game? What a crazy game is the worlds most popular.

There would be AFL riots every week.

Soccer is a great sport if you like being teased for 2 hours without anything to really cheer about.

..sorry Im tired after staying up like everyone else.
