Takes even more class to be a gracious loser.

Luke Hodge spoke beautifully at the presentation and Clarkson has been equally classy in the interviews and functions since.

The Hawks only won a lot of fans today. Great club.

Is there any link or such to what Hodgey had to say? I saw him on TV in the other room sounding pretty composed and speaking for a while, but I couldn't watch. Great leader. Just a bit sad he had so much trouble this year. He's not half the player he can be at the moment.

nothing wrong with the timing of the thread. winners are grinners and losers can suit themselves and all that.

for what its worth i think the Swans were the best team for most of the match. we had a couple of good bursts that kept us in it but mostly got outplayed and would have stolen the victory had it gone our way.

Thanks guys! Glad the Swans took the cup if it wasn't the Hawks. You deserved it! See ya next year.

Great game. Nothing in it. Better conversion, as often the case, was the only minor difference.

Thought the club seemed to handle themselves very well after the game also.

Fair play to the Swans fans, you guys are a real credit to team. Congratulations to the Swans on a deserved victory and enjoy the celebrations. See you next year.

I consider myself blessed to have been able to watch that game live, it cost a small fortune for us to get there but it was an absolute classic and worth every cent - everyone was on the edge of their seats for the entire match. The most incredible sporting atmosphere I've ever been a part of, and much of that was due to the ferocity with which Hawthorn played. First their initial burst where we looked in real trouble at quarter time, then in the 3rd and start of the 4th quarter where it looked like the momentum had swung permanently. Thanks to the Hawthorn football club for a truly fantastic spectacle and a day I will never forget

Your fans were a credit yesterday, A lot of them stayed around for the presentations, Were gracious in defeat and carried themselves with a touch of class. You will be back

After 24 hours of pain and going over the "what if's" (a pointless exercise if there ever was one!) I have to agree that it truly was a great grand final and the swans were magnificent.

The swans are just one of those teams that supporters of all clubs respect...my favourite non-hawthorn grand final was the swans win over the eagles.

The Hawks had a great season and have much to look forward to in 2013.

Well done...roll on 2013!

Was an amazing effort to put it so eloquently when he no doubt would've been shattered after that loss. Gained a lot of respect from the wider football community with that effort.

Yet there is a disgusting thread on the bay that says otherwise, making somewhat of a huge joke about some recent events
Yes I know it's the bay, but seriously...

Anyway Swans were terrific yesterday and good em too !

I realise there is a lot of crap flying around between Hawk and Cat supporters but it is all part of the rivalry our clubs have built up. It isn't just since '08, our clubs have history that stretches back further than that.

Losing a Grand Final sucks, I don't have to tell you all that. Trust me, as a Geelong supporter I have felt the heartbreak that a GF loss brings more than I care for.

But your club and players will learn from it and it would be a very foolish person who wouldn't think the Hawks will be around the mark again next year.

It doesn't make it any better but I did want to say well done on a great year.

commiserations to you guys. Had a fantastic year , best by far in the H&A. know your all hurting but trust me you guys will come out even more powerful and even more hungry . The Hawks dynasty has just begun unfortunately for the all us other clubs. see you in 2013 to continue our rivalry.

I know now may not be the best time to post such a thread, i would have done the same if we had of lost.

But the Hawks and Swans truly played a game worthy of being the pinnicle of the competition.

You can be proud of your efforts today and you shouldn't doubt where your club will stand in 2013. Up the top, competing for the Premiership once more.
thank you very much , i have found most [sadly get some on fb though other wise i would say 100% all] of your supporters have been great in this regard , whether at the game or fb friends or on the hfc fb page , much appreciated was guttered as , but your team and ours were the best for the year and it was great to see us both in the GF there was always going to be one winner sadly not hawks but i am happy it is not a draw that i would not have wanted .

Also just want to add my voice to what others have said about Clarkson, and also Luke Hodge.

Clarkson's comments about getting losing in perspective were very dignified, and that's not a word we use much in football circles, is it? I've been guilty of only seeing the ultra-competitive Clarko with anger management issues. People who know him say he's a very decent guy at heart, but I hadn't seen it. Well his comments on Saturday showed the true measure of the man, and I now know my superficial impression was wrong. You're very lucky to have someone of that calibre as coach.

And Hodge was also very dignified and articulate and genuine, and again, you're very lucky to have someone like that leading your team onfield. Always respected him as a great player, but there's much more to him that that obviously.

To the Geelong FLOG's, get over 2008. Move on FFS!!!

It really is time to ban ALL Geelong supporters from this board. Their behaviour over the past 48 hours has been disgraceful. Apologies to the 1 or 2 cats fans who have come on here and respected our rules.

To the Swans, class outfit, well deserving of the flag. I'd been saying most of the season that the only team who worried me when the business end of the season arrived was Sydney. How come I'm only right when the Hawks lose? :p

Really good game... there had to be a loser and the Hawks fans at the game handled it really really well... The team was immense. Haven't lost any respect. Bring on '13.

Your performance yesterday has just heightened the respect I have for your great club.
I honestly thought you had us beat three times throughout the match... And was terrified until the final siren.

A huge thumbs up to Luke Hodge who's speech at the end was fantastic.

And an even bigger thumbs up to the supporters from your club who stayed at the ground waving your banners high even whilst the presentations were going on.

You have some fantastic supporters here at Hawthorn and I really do think it is only a matter of time before you guys (And ladies) taste the feeling of success again.
