Alot of mail floating around the media saying that he's already one foot out the door up in Queensland. Would we take him? It has to be understood that he's only got 2 or 3 years maxiumum left in him. I would NEVER EVER give up a pick in this years draft considering how it's supposed to be as good as the class of 2001, but IF you did want him, what would you give to the Lions (Me thinks they need some KKP, me thinks Nick Smith to be shown the door)

Of course he's a livewire, hard to control, and I suppose that kinda suits ND, he's not a hardass dictator coach. That, and the club has lacked a strong media personality for quite a while. I was kinda starting to think that Biz or Robbo could take that mantle but all in all we're a fairly quiet club when it comes to that. Possibly Aker could bring in the attention we deserve...Which could lead to bigger and better things maybe? Decent goalkicker too!

I would only look at it if we were offering up a similar player, and maybe a late pick or two.

And even then, probably not worth it.

Don't want to be North Melbourne or Carlton by taking on players who are almost spent. He will go to Sydney if anything, he would compliment their team.

We wouldn't have the cash to spend on him and the last thing we would need to do is offer a bloated contract to a player who is almost gone.

I think we would be one of only teams going around with absolutely no need to give a up a pick for Aka. As much as I think he is an absolute gun, do we really need another attacking wing/half forward? Bruce, Green, Davey, Pickett etc.

Yep, that's a great point.
I don't think Melbourne needs a player like Aker. Sure he's a great player, but Melbourne has plenty of flashy, skilful midfielders as it is. He seems to be struggling currently and he'll only lose his talent as he's getting on a bit.
On the media, whilst Melbourne may lack a big personality in the media I don't think it is an integral part of being a good club. Anyway, the type of publicity Aker gets isn't often the type you want associated with your footy club.
In saying this, I think if his name is tossed around during trade week I'm sure there will be a few clubs willing to offer something of serious value for him.

Brisbane would wan't too much for him. They would try to get a Moloney or Sylvia for him. If Melbourne were to trade one of there young guns for someone with not long left like aka (even though he a champion) i would stop supporting Melbourne. Please keep the kids.

Aker...At Melbourne in 07'??

I strongly urge everyone reading this to download the current afl.com.au Mondayitis Podcast as Peter 'Crackers' Keenan drops a bombshell saying that Aker is going to be playing for Melbourne next year, not only that, but the deal has already been drawn together! Apparently he got tipped off by a source called 'Howard P'...Any ideas?

Anyways, give it a listen, cause according to Keenan, Aker is going to be playing with the Demons next year. Sydney are the only other club interested in him apparently.

IMO...I don't really think I want him, I dunno, I'm undecided. He might have a similar impact on the club like Byron has, not so much as in added toughness but moreso Melbourne adding another marquee player to a team that kinda lacks superstar players.

But yes, give it a listen, I strongly urge you to hear it!

trying to get it to load. Aint doin nethin.

would be interesting but attacking HFF/midfielders is what we have excess of. I'd take him if he was cheap trade wise and most likely salary wise too.

I would love Aker at melbourne but im not sure what we can really offer them maybe a 3rd pick and P.wheatley i would be happy with but no sure they would.

they wouldn't be.

Aker is about on par with Yze atm. What would you want in trade for him? more than just a fringe defender and a 3rd round pick surely, regardless of ages.

Considering Hay and Ottens got 2 first round draft picks, me thinks Brisbane would want something more than a 3rd round pick and Wheatley, for a Brownlow medalist and superstar like Aker. he would be great for our team, but at what cost? Too much i think.

Of course Brisbane would laugh at that deal I was just saying thats what i would hope for. But really there isnt much we can give them for him.

When our recent mid-late first round picks have included Dunn, Bate and Bell I don't want to deal away our pick. Maybe if we were still drafting the like of Molan, Rogers and Smith it would be worth doing. What the hell do we have to offer the Lions that we could afford to give away?

No way. That'd be far too short-sighted IMO. Aker is great when he gets going, but now that we also have Byron for (more) polish, we dont need any more. I believe we have a reasonably evenly balanced team now, I cant see how going after an ageing player of the flashy variety can really help us.

He has always stayed injury free so age wouldn't be too much of an issue. We could get probably 4 years out of him. He is an experienced finals player, a successful superstar much like Byron Pickett and he has that winning edge that is needed to win premierships.

Depending on the right price, I would definately be interested.

I don't want Aker. Not a requirement at all.
What do we get? Maybe one good season at best? Not worth the massive risk especially for what they'd want in return.

It's always handy to have an extra gun player. I'd rather not have him because of what he would cost in trades but make no mistake he will be in the top few players at whatever team he goes to for more than just a year.

If we can strike the same deal as with Pickett, I'd go for it. Not forgetting that we'll have to pay out his current (fat) contract.

I much rather save up and try to throw everything at Judd. We might not be successful, but at least we'll be seen as a real threat in the market.

Whoever gets Judd, will have to give away a hell of alot. Probably 3 top 10 picks with atleast one in the top 5. It aint worth it.

Judd + Melbourne = premiership

2 first round picks + 2nd round pick + Godfrey + Nicholson + Ward + Read + Bizzell + 426+ pink training jumpers + Neale Daniher. It's a done deal! :D

(Rumour has it, that Carroll's facial hair clippings are going to be the sweetner that seals the deal).
