Connex Railway service

They're hopeless, seriously.

Nice to see a free day on the trains in two weeks time, giving something back to the public.

Errrrr, where do you think the money is coming from to finance this day of happy no pay travel time? I'll give you a hint. It's not in Connex's contract with the government.

The fare free day is tomorrow.

I actually posted that originally, but in one of the threads on the board it says the 13th of Feb so I edited it. So it's tomorrow as well, sweet for those travellers. :thumbsu:

The free travel ploy is absolute bullshit.

The most loyal Connex passengers ie. those who buy yearly and monthly tickets are the ones that don't get the slightest benefit. I pay $100+ a month for my ticket, have been screwed around countless times by the substandard service and now Connex think they are doing me a favour by giving me a day of free transport that I have already paid for.

It's an absolute joke.

Agreed :thumbsu:

As I said earlier in this thread, their incompetence won't stand up in court if they challenge any unpaid fines.

because she has to power to act and fix it by handing out fines and getting tougher on them.

I'm not buying a ticket until she stands down or is sack and call on everyone to do the same.

I'll bet a $1million that you don't catch the train to work everyday.

No one cares who's fault it was. We want a better system, that works!!

Agreed also.

The majority of those who catch trains in peak are weekly/monthly/yearly ticket holders who aren't getting a damn thing out of this free travel day.

On the slight upside, my train seemed a little less busy today. Perhaps people are avoiding getting the train in fear of getting screwed over.

It's Friday too... people are using the heat to take a long weekend. Personally I can't see myself staying in the office much past midday. This is ridiculous!!

FWIW, I just penned a long, articulate e-mail to Kosky and will let you know if I get a response. It basically demands a reponse on why she believes it is adequate compensation to give us something for free that we've already paid for. I also asked if I would be able to walk in to The Met shop, present my monthly ticket and receive a free daily to use whenever I like.

Ever since they changed the timetable to make trains run direct to flinders street on my line in the mornings, I've been getting off at Jolimont. As such I've been getting a 2hour x 10 and not validating it in the mornings. They can kiss my arse.

Kosky does fine them but Connex don't care because no matter what they run the show . The taxpayers money they get more than compensates for the fines that they incur. People just need to accept that under the circumstances the blame should fairly and squarely be with Connex and not the government. The UK train system is also controlled by Connex and i hear it is a debacle just like it is here. Look at NSW for example, there rail system is great because the government runs it, not Connex. The sooner the selfish greedy Connex bastards get the arse from their contract the better the trains will be.

Why? It's only going to be translated into simple English by someone with more intelligence. :p

From what I hear Sydneys system is a debarcle that even makes us look good.

But Connex don't own the trains or the track. They lease it. That's the state governments responsibility.
The track is the Governments responsibility, the trains however are Connex's.

Answer the question about whether the people who parked in the way are in any way responsible.

Nah not quite, the Trains and the Track are both owned by the Government, and all the rest like, signalling, traction power, radio systems and all the stations, signal boxes etc. That's all owned by the state. Connex are engaged to use these facilities to run the service and maintain that infrastructure.

So if there is an issue with the numbers of trains available it could very well be considered a Gov problem, as they own the trains and are responsible for keeping and upgrading to trains that are viable to maintain in the system. It's also responsible for making sure that infrastructure is in place, like enough stabling to house the trains, new track to overcome bottlenecks when they implement a new timetable etc.

It could be a maintenance issue, then that lies firmly with Connex as it is their responsibility to maintain it, be it Track, signals, overhead etc, etc. Or it could be a union issues where a driver or signalman refuses to work or operate a train because the driver considerers the conditions are faulty and these issues range from quite reasonable to absurd.

The government passed those responsibilities over to Connex in the mid 90s when Kennett was in power. The government provide the trains and track but it is Connex's responsibility to make sure they are running when they are supposed to be running. The government's only role in how the train service operates is to make sure Connex are doing the right thing for the travellers by disciplining Connex if they are deemed to be irresponsible in any way. If both parties co-operate then you should have little problems doing the job properly. Obviously this is not the case as Connex seem to be shifting the blame to others rather than looking in the mirror.

Yeah I worded that poorly. Connex need to maintain the trains and keep them in service. But if The Gov don't buy new trains, Connex are forced to continue to use aging infrastructure which will fail more regularly, not just in trains but all the systems.

The track duplication at Clifton Hill, the CCTV system upgrade, the proposed Train management system, the purchase of new trains etc are all government run projects. And people need to consider that when you insatiate a new timetable the infrastructure needs to be improved to accommodate that.
