Because I think if that’s all they get back for Marshall, it would be considered overs. I think most would agree Marshall is the better player and is also contracted. Might be a late token pick or something.
Who the better player out of Marshall and Ryan is completely irrelevant to the discussion, he's a contracted player. We have 3 first rounders as it stands and will probably look to take a few NGA's, I don't think it serves us to be giving up experienced players who are still playing good footy for a pick in the 20's in a weak draft when we already have multiple better picks.

Because thats the position to take? You either pay fair value or he stays, regardless of what Liam wants from his life. Bell saying that Liams opinion holds a in particular size of weight just makes it look like he can ask whatever he wants in the off season trade wise and we are going to do it...

And lets say that is true btw. You dont publically announce it to the world. Kinda hurts your trade power when you tell the opposition that he will be traded for sure
Having managed people, being the hard ass may make some people feel big and tough but it rarely, if ever, ends up in the best results.

Not conceding your negotiating position publicly doesn't equate to being "the hard ass". You can be a good people manager while also being a stern negotiator, but at the end of the day it's the clubs job to get fair value or better on contracted players, especially given the horrible hole the club has dug themselves into.

I could post and say Saints need to give us their first rounder plus let us borrow NWM three times a year.

Doesn’t mean that’s the actual market or that it would ever remotely get done. It’s as ludicrous as Hawks fans posting about how Sam Frost and pick 10 could get Harley over the line.

We don’t set the deals, but wasting everyone’s time trying to come up with fanciful massively one sided deals doesn’t exactly make for good conversation.

What the list managers do is not influenced by how campaignery the fans are on BigFooty.
I actually don't disagree and try to keep all my trade speculation within the realm of possibility for the most part.
However, we don't then get to whine and complain that the club was railed and bent over in our trade negotiations.
(not saying you do this Badge just talking in general).

The way we currently go is something like:
1. Complain we get stiffed constantly in trades and are too soft
2. Fans prepose realistic trades that usually have us taking unders
3. It's usually around that ballpark or a little under the suggested trades
4. We complain that the club is weak.

Bolton is a far away a better played that leagues above. Hill had a great Gf and deserved the Norm but all his hype has been post Norm. He averages 10 disposals and his best season return is 33 goals. He isn’t kicking that many at the Eagles.
I meant if he doesn't have very good players around him he's shite, Bolton's the same in that regard.

At least 3 clubs are into Ryan, not including us who would like to keep him. That demand coupled with his contracted status and a 4 year offer from Saints does not equate to him walking for unders.
I missed the part where we said we were giving away Ryan for nothing.

Yet*

Be patient plz.

Ryan is the perfect player to trade

He’s clearly in demand, he’s contracted, he won’t be around for the next flag push & he still has currency.

Everyone complains we hold onto the older players too long. We offer him another contract & he breaks down we will have posters rattling on about it for years.

He is but only for the right price given how young our list already is

As with everything, it will depend on what we get for him.

We only trade Ryan if it benefits us.

St Kilda understands this more so than anyone recently (Ross on record two weeks ago talking about contracted players and how you just don't let them go, the convo he had with Chris Scott in regards to Cats holding TK for their benefit).

If Marshall exits, i'd aim for the late first they receive for him. Or a midfielder in a trade.

The club needs to be really clear with Ryan what is needed in return for us to agree to a trade and it needs to be something useful to us. Not spectacular, we are not expecting a top 10 pick. But not worthless either like pick 50.

Ryan signed a contract and is contracted for next year. If he did his ACL this week and was going to be out for 2026 then all those offers he is sniffing out at other clubs would disappear instantly but he would still demand we live up to our side of the contract and pay his salary for next year. You can't have it both ways, i.e. sign a contract to lock the money in and hold the other party to their end of it but treat it as optional for yourself and think you can opt out when it becomes inconvenient or there is a better offer elsewhere.

Time for the club to show more balls FFS. I hope they haven't allowed him to go and chase these offers without putting down guard rails for his manager. And then the first time we actually talk about what we get in return is during trade week and we get low balled and stuck between hanging on to a disgruntled player or giving him away for not very much etc etc. Deja Vu from last year. Need to be more hands on much earlier in the process.

I Just wish the club would come out and show some balls.

Ross Lyon on FC pretty much came out and said "St Kilda won't be walked over as a footy club. Do not come after our contracted players".

And yet, we have an AA, contracted premiership player and Bell comes out and pretty much says you can have him.

Rather than come out and say " the club will honour Ryan's desires if he wants to depart, although they are content with him seeing out his contract.".

Show some ****ing balls.

We don't want a fair deal, we want overs, and if we don't get overs, he's staying.
He was an all a Australian 5 seasons ago and will never ever reach anywhere near that level again..

He was a premiership player 7 seasons ago…. He will never be one again..

Those accolades mean nothing when you look at the shell or a player he is now. .. if we got a second rounder then we should be thankful
