I think they’d want CDT.

Personally I’m of the opinion that we should only get involved in a potential Walter deal if it’s heavily in our favour e.g.

WC give: pick 2, F2
WC get: Jed Walter, pick 6

GC give: Jed Walter, pick 6
GC get: Charlie Curnow

CAR give: Charlie Curnow
CAR get: Pick 2, F2

Definitely not giving 2 outright for Walter, his value shouldn’t be what it was 1-2 years ago.
Gold Coast have done lots of stupid things in the past but I don’t think they do something that stupid.

Lol, it’s not bollocks at all.

Duggan is a nothing player, terrible defender, horrible ball skills, doesn’t offer run and carry, he tries hard but he doesn’t have a singular standout attribute.

Starcevich is arguably the best lockdown small defender in the competition and rarely makes mistakes because he knows his limits.
A few things incorrect here:

Duggo intercepts a whole heap more and provides way more run and carry and is a 2 way player.
Starcevic locks down better yes, but hardly any better than at Tom Cole level who has always been handy.

Aaaand Starcevic is 2cm taller than Duggan, plays small but gets torched by anyone with agility.

Liam Ryan is Liam Ryan, but a pick in the 30’s could be anything. It could even be another Liam Ryan!

You know how much we’ve wanted one of those!

Well, the past 15 pages of this thread was certainly something.

You read all 15 pages?

Duggan’s going to have better stats because he plays further up the ground and never has strict defensive assignments, we also for whatever reason feed him the ball.

Tom Cole isn’t handy defensively, he’s another headless chook that people think is good because he tries hard, if Duggan and Cole are capapble defenders you’d imagine their direct opponents wouldn’t be having great games 99% of the time.

Starcevich doesn’t get torched by people with agility, he locks down elite agile smalls more often than not, he’s a very limited offensive player but plays his role a lot better than Duggan or Cole play theirs.

Look I also think Starcevich is better than Duggan or Cole but I don't think it's by much at all. We've been the worst side in the comp for the last few years - IMO you'd be licking your lips as a general forward playing us not because of the Duggan/Cole matchup specifically but cause the ball will be coming in with so much freedom as our midfield is getting flogged + our transition is atrocious so Duggan/Cole have to put extra effort into leaving their man and focusing on more other things than Starcevich needs to. If Duggan and Starcevich swapped teams 4 years ago I reckon Duggan would be looking pretty good and vice versa for Starcevich.

Am more just interested in him to raise the overall level of our list - we need AFL quality, we need decent players like Cole actually getting pushed down to WAFL and dominating there to help our kids out, we need leadership coming in from successful clubs. Think he'll be a good add but won't come in and straight away be 10 times the player Duggan is.

We use him because he is actively creating run. Its where you have the needle set to as a defender.

I remember the days where you could lock in the oppo small forward for 4 goals a game against us week in week out. That was with Shep, Waters, Yeo & Glass running around.
I think we have been better than that for a while now, but more importantly it's not an area that should concern us in spending to improve. If Starcevic comes for free & $$$ are right then it's good for depth I guess. Someone on the fringes will get that assignment and be good enough otherwise🤷‍♂️

For my money I think Starcevic would make a good stoppage midfielder at the coalface, not so sure about his tank and spread however. Something like Graham and would be another bigger body in there.

I wouldn’t really want Starcevich on the basis that he thinks he’s coming here to play midfield, there’s nothing I’ve seen from him at AFL level to suggest he’ll magically morph into a midfielder haha

I’m by no means desperate for Starcevich, but I do think he’s a significant upgrade on Cole and on Duggan (to a lesser extent).

That's all fine.
Just opinions.
Think Duggan is underrated.
Don't rate Starcevich as high as others do, personally.
And if he wants to be a midfielder, only heresay, but that is a little silly.
If we get him for next to nothing, I'm fine with that.

*edit still don't think he's an upgrade on Duggan. JMHO
Duggan doesnt excel at anything in particular, so he cops shit.

Hes at least ok or better at everything he does, just very unexciting.

A guy like Starcevich who has a defined role he excels in will always be favoured by fans.

Rowan wants Geelong and has done so the past few years. Saints being poo poo heads.

Let the man leave!

Like your lot did with Kelly?

Hope he stays at St Kilda because they refuse to hand him over for the R2 pick you’ll offer pretending it’s a fair trade

I thought he was ok. Ah Chee is the one I’m not impressed with. Too old too slow!
Brisbanes small 40m kicking midfield is getting shown up.
Like Adelaide’s mids ; solid and tough and slow. Need size and speed!
I hope we are watching and learning!
Like Chesser

It promises to get even betterer...
Yeah only around 40 days to the end of the trade period, where we’ll have half an idea of what we might do on draft night, but given the ability to live trade draft picks, even then nothing will be definite.
Let the speculation and conjecture run free.
The biggest joy is watching people melt when the ideas that they had don’t come to fruition, there are a few posters here in particular I can think of that truly shit the bed, can’t wait🤣

Name one good thing Liam Duggan does consistently on the football field because great disposal. Leadership, ability to defend, start a scoring chain, lock down on a forward isn’t an answer to the question.

The washing machines and laundries will be running overtime...it's almost exciting, we've barely recovered and moved on from the last split pick trade.
