They will already be planning around that with Zac Bailey getting huge offers as a free agent. Doubt they budge much on their current offer.
I pick up what you're putting down but I'd also argue they have more ZB/role replacements than Starc .

I'm not saying he's a superior player but he's super important to their structure and I don't they they have many that could cover him.

It must be nice to have an academy to keep feeding the club

We've just signed Tom Cole who's better, so I reckon Starcevich goes in the bin now.

Hutch got 4 and Starcevich is a much better player so he has to get 6 🤷‍♂️

Think Dallas Cowboys GIF by ScooterMagruder
It may be splitting hairs, but this continues to be misreported. It was 3 years, not 4. He was just contracted for 2026. It’s like saying Harley got a 3 year extension. He only got 2, but we have him for 3 more years.

Did he get a one year extension early on?
It’s a total mystery

Original 18 month contract when he was drafted mid 2024 expired end of 2025, but when the extension was announced it was said he had a contract to 2026

There’s no official announcement of an extension from 2025 to 2026 that I can find anywhere

I’m fine with Starcevich offer.
He likely commands $700k at Brisbane. So any team getting him out of there needs to Pat at least $800k. Us offering an extra $100k over that to get him here is fine given how awful we are and also given we won’t be paying our full cap anyhow

What is a major concern though is that we pretty much only have 2 good AFL players who aren’t defenders - Waterman and Harley. Hewett and Shanahan not at that point yet. So we’re still going have diabolical forward line, mids and ruck.

= much much pain to come still next year

Well I guess it's going to help get some better defenders too then - they are going to be busy.

Answerth can come in and play that role. They are also chasing Budarick and Ridley

I don't watch many Brisbane games and when I do I can't say I ever paid attention to him. But statistically, Cole is better than Starcevich in just about every area, including disposal efficiency & effective disposals. Clangers are identical.

So apart from Goroyals22 explaining that Starcevich is a better footballer purely on the grounds that I don't watch enough football, I would like to know how he's an upgrade on Cole?

And this is where stats lie. Go rewatch the 2024 Grand Final as an example of the quality that is Starcevich.

For what it’s worth a bunch of spuds and decent players were picked between Masten and Dangerfield.

I’ll also sign on to Team Masten - he was never the superstar you’re hoping to get when you draft that early, but he was a very solid 200+ game player who filled an important role for many years and was part of a premiership side. Sure we would have all loved to end up with a Dusty Martin or a Hugh McCluggage out of that pick, but you can also get a Jimmy Toumpas or Lachie Hansen.

Watching the footy I can see why the Eagles took Masten over Dangerfield. It's part of a future plan for 2025 better draft pick

Fun fact: Dangerfield was considered a bolter when Adelaide took him at 10.

Petracca is an interesting one. Outside of the stuff around his personal brand, he is a perfect candidate to come across - premiership player, twilight of his career, plays a position of need, would be a good mentor for Reid and Hewett, worked with Mini, and we can swallow his contract.
Petracca’s trade value is the curious part. He’s well past his prime but not old enough to be in the discount bin like the value we would be hoping to get for Neale. It feels like Demons would want overs to get him out given he’s contracted until 2029 and they still see him as a gun. His contract is reported as less than $1M per year ($6-6.5M over 7 years) but peaks at $1.7M, assuming back-ended but not sure.

One of the footy shows had him and Merrett both worth two first rounders which doesn’t mean much depending on which picks in the first round.

If Merrett goes to Hawthorn then Petracca’s next choice would be interesting. Crows have publicly said they would be keen on Merrett, does this reopen the Curtin to WC conversation if the Bombers want a high pick and we can facilitate?

Adelaide fans were in uproar they chose Dangerfield over Ebert as well from memory

Morton, Myers and Palmer among those taken before Dangerfield. All from WA and all linked to us at some point predraft - Masten turned out the best of that group and by some margin
