Is he actually a premium KF of the competition yet?

93 games for 139 goals, one season above 50 goals (his only season above 30 goals).

He's 25, it's time his numbers (and body) started to match his talent.

I really like Oscar btw, I don't mean this to come across as I don't rate him. In 2023 he clearly showed he can be elite.
In his defence, he has ben playing at the end of the ground that the ball rarely visits.

Can the melts over splitting pick 3 and picking Allan get moved into a 2024 trade/draft period retrospective thread?
Taller than Jack Graham our big bodied yeo replacement

Draiper is also a dynamic ball winner with elite vision, pace and endurance to go with his accumulation.

Recon he may get rising star
Are you talking about the “Hospital Handballer”??

Man it's so easy to make rookies who haven't played a game yet sound terrible if you say it with the confidence only ignorance can't provide

Draper is small and has shocking foot skills and nearly gets his teammates killed with hospital handballs, so glad we dodged that bullet

Hypothetically if we were to finish in the bottom two on the ladder this year and other clubs were chasing Allen with monster deals would we let him go knowing we will get pick 1 or 2 as compo, or would that not be enough to compensate us?

Does it depend on the state of his knees and how much longevity we think he is going to have? He has been very injury prone.

I'm sure he can play lots of roles , midfield and forward too but mini has him playing as a defender but probably not a rebound defender with his skills.

I've had him in various supercoach teams over the last few years so I know he doesn't get a lot of the ball and goes missing a lot .

What was the point in paying so much in salary and draft capital just to turn around and play as a back pocket or general defender?

If he was a free agent fine its a free hit but to split pick 3 is a waste of finite resources.

If for the pre season Baker trained midfield with the intent of playing as a mid our biggest weakness that is fine .
So a new coach who has his own ideas on a new game plan and playing style get's a couple of seasoned players over who he thinks will fit well into the team.
Players he knows well from coaching them in the past and has a good relationship with.
Players that want to be here and have already proved on the track they are up for it and have probably lifted the standards for the rest of the players to see where they need to be.
Players that haven't yet had a chance to actually represent the club in an actual game but look from all reports fully committed.

But hey let's write them off, pot them, say it was a terrible idea to get them and waste our money and draft picks on them.

Let's just reign those horses in guys and actually see them run out and represent the club in a proper game.

Personally I am pretty stoked we got them and think it is a positive move. Owies I was a bit Eh? What? on. But that was mainly from his Carlton jumper. Now he is one of ours and I am behind him all the way and think he will also add a lot of AFL experience and grunt to our new and growing young list.
If we can get a good 4-6 years from these guy's, WHAT'S THE PROBLEM??
So am I…..the whinging seems to be coming from a very small number of posters who haven’t taken the time to look at the overall result of the trade and draft period

Overall our drafting crew saved the trading crew from that cluster **** of trade week .

We don't have the luxury of afl handouts or academies without restrictions.

We can't be throwing away top draft picks for B graders .

Not only trading out pick 3 but then paying overs for Baker.

I shudder to think of what we will pay for warner .

David King, Ben Stratton, Caleb Daniel and Tom Gross = steals at pick #46
I talked to a recruiter who said that Stratton would get drafted and still the Eagles overlooked him.
By the way he played on Brad Smith that day and kept him goaless and even kicked a goal on him.

Injury questions, iffy disposal. Draper actually would have been my choice at the pick but I believe the gap in talent between the two is small.
Draiper has shown he is a genuine midfielder with appealing attributes that will translate to afl . The fact he played so well on ball in the sanfl proves that .

Has bo Allen shown that he will translate to afl midfield?

Time will tell, he does have the athletic ability but its his production im worried about .

We keep drafting guys with great physical attributes that have no idea how to find the ball. We end up sending them back or forward

Venables, duggan , chesser , ginbey and bo Allen all struggle/struggled with production playing midfield

Nobody has forgotten that dreadful trade period. It's going to haunt pyke next year as we all know how he operates now.

If he can stay on the park he's one of the best forwards going. To do what he did in 2023 with our rabble of a team is pretty exceptional.

Games to goals ratio is a little misleading given he spent a significant amount of his early career in defence or ruck.
Didn't help playing alongside the club's two greatest goalkickers either
