The writing is on the wall now. I fail to see how we keep Harley so let’s just stop ****ing around and commit to this rebuild.

Let Oscar walk for Band 1 compo, trade Harley this year whilst we have leverage and hope he is amicable to it being Bombers (who have Capitol)

Draft some ****ing high end midfielders for Christ sake and don’t even dare splitting any picks in the top 5.

Stop playing submissive with the AFL like a god dam cuckold in the corner and use the media like every other club does to push our case for assistance.

And spend. spend, spend, SPEND!!!

We get it Pyke, we’re a rich club. Woopidity frickin doo.

We might not be able to spend more money on players but we can on coaches, development programs, our academy…..

We’re still gonna be rich, we’re still gonna make money hand over fist moving forward so **** the hard cap and spend whatever it takes to fast track our rebuild.

We have 3 midfielders on our list drafted to the club between 2013 & 2022.

Sheed, Chesser and Hewett.

One is done, one so far hasn’t even been and maybe, just maybe if we are lucky Hewey might be a gun but that’s the hole we are digging ourselves out of and it’s high time we fix it… AT THE DRAFT.

Some players are going to get some very nice front ended contracts.

If OA goes, we don’t resign Kelly (even if we do it wont be on great money)

Don’t think the Sheldricks, Erasmus of the world would cost much.

Over pay the Ed Allen’s, Cameron’s and Hills of the world to get them to come? Which will cost draft capital.

Time to offer Kozzie a stupid amount of money, but Demons not much.

Drive his purple $$$ expectation through the roof and sit back.
Do we want to give up the draft capital that he would cost and would be expected if he signs for millions.

This makes for an interesting situation, even goes up more if Harleys wants out.

He is a line breaking midfielder, would have been a great addition.
Anyway we move on, we need to build through draft picks and then in a few years we might become attractive again.
Absolutely, just seeing him live a few time I wonder where he fits in our lineup fending for himself. This allows me to be ok with his signing.

Instead of applying for priority picks, I hope we ask for the ability to be able to sign FA’s without it ruining the Oscar compo pick. That’d help us a lot more and allow us to improve now and in the long term + the draft doesn’t get even more compromised.
Who are these magical free agents that we would want to sign?

Are people being serious when they suggest Warner was the make or break of Harley staying or going?

Is there any overlap with the group that says Warner wouldn't be able to dig us out of the mire?

Has anyone suggested folding the club?

Wasn’t a good time to be clearing years worth of picks out the door for Chad Warner anyway - great player but is he the guy you sell the farm for?

Free Agency sure.

Will be interesting to see how this confirmation impacts the current contracts in play though, might be some more money to play with.

Or we just blow $800k for 6 years on half a season of Brandon Starcevich before he has to pull the pin. 🙃

If Reid stays and Hewett, Gross, Allan come on to be very good players.
We draft another gun mid or two this draft who also prove to be very good.
Maybe we don't even need Warner in 3 years.
Maybe the Swans have a lull period, doubtful, as we take off to be back up the top of the ladder when his contract comes to an end.
He could be the cherry on top but then again we could already have that cherry by then.

Time to move on from the get Warner theme.

Who's next?
While disappointing not to get Chad, it allows us to focus on the draft for 2 gun mids and a top end KDEF player this year.

The second part of him signing on for only 2 years is a very positive sign that he will be coming home then and we will be at the table with a decent offer again as a RFA.

The other part is like you say, who is next??
We really need heaps of support around our midfield, it is well below standard and only getting younger by drafting more players.

This is a recipe for much more of the same over the next 2-4 years unless we add significant help to our midfield this trade period.

The likes of Kelly, Yeo are near their end and we need at least 1 senior B grade or better mid this year and in 2026 to help our transition to the younger playing group.

Lots of posters talking, but not much input into who this should be?
Look forward to 5 realistic names that will help us.
The war chest is available, let's use it!!

Wrong stage of the rebuild to be relinquishing draft capital trading players in. We still need to draft more elite young talent and get games into the youth.
People overrate draft picks. There's a fair chance the number 3 draft pick never becomes as good as Chad Warner. And if we used a number 3 pick, it likely would cost an additional second rounder, not another first rounder, which is even more speculative. Warner is coming on 24, not 30, and would help the kids around him develop a winning culture sooner.

As pointed out, in two years, Freo may enter the frame as well. Don't see any way this is a good result for West Coast.

100%.

Plus as Cal said, it’s likely teams now have enough coin to match RFA and force a trade if it’s a better result then what they would get on compo.

Which 100% will be the case with Chad and likely to cost us our first in the 2027 draft or 2028.

Can see why he stayed especially on that coin. I think Don and Clarke thought they had their man

He is on a good thing in Sydney - boys grow up and out of home sickness.

Would have cost us nothing more than Oscar's compo, how are people trying to spin this into a win? Also in two years Freo will be in a better position to lure him as well. Legit 'didn't want him anyway' copium going on in here.
A 20 disposal mid that can't kick and doesn't tackle? I call that Fremantle/North desperation for a big fish, rather than a savvy pick up.
In 2 years FA fine if the $$ is right.

Some definitely do. AFL culture for the return home is not great.

Would suggests maybe the misses might be keen to head home and even more so if they are looking at having kids ect

Totally agree with rating draft picks, 50% failure rate and a 24yo in his prime top 10 midfielder wanting to come to your club is not a win win.
Known products are the cheapest player you can buy if you don't be silly.
Anyway, Warner is on the menu in 2 years as a RFA and we will be up to our ears in his services!

The biggest glaring issue now is how do we help build the midfield without going all draft picks?
We need 2 elite mids through the draft and a top end KDEF option as our starting point with our draft hand.

The biggest hole will be filing the Kelly, Yeo hole as they age and are almost done.
WC need at least a B grade mid now and another A grade this year or next to fill the massive hole that is there now.
Whether that is a 22-26yo player or a younger and older player to help with this next period, critically important this happens now that the Warner trade off, throw around our cash reserves at appropriate players and keep being aggressive.

You do realise that if we do sign Starcevich and he does go down with another concussion and retires, he gets paid outside of the salary cap
