Mcvee has held off contract talks indefinitely. What's his trade cost?

The interesting part is why isn’t he listening to offers from other teams? This close to being OOC?

Waiting to see who is the coach? Direction of the club?

Buss frustrated but Dogs will not trade him this year no matter what, so he will see out his contract. Clubs will ask the question (no team linked) but with a thin draft they won’t take late picks for him. Some teams are considering not even taking any picks and just upgrade rookies apparently.

Well that's easy enough.

"Here dickheads, have our F2"

Done ✅

Makes you wonder what is going on in the brain department of some of these players (or their managers I guess). Buss and Dev both signed new deals at clubs that they were obviously not going to get games at - and then get frustrated?

What did you think was going to happen, Jed?

Yeah, I guess Jed like most think that’s where a spot at the Dogs could be, key defender. Then got his spot and played well to not get another look seems harsh. Bevo?

Dev most could see he was going to get pushed out but did play in a GF. I reckon his manager would’ve been telling him take the Eagles deal but it’s only advice.

Sheldrick will be the next.

You keep saying "Outside players rarely get taken top 5" (or whatever variant of the top 5 suits you in the moment), but numerous posters have listed outside players taken early to point out how incorrect that is.

Maybe take a deep breathe and ease up on your absolutist views.
Said person listed half forward flanks as "outsiders" and then a whole heap of players who aren't outsiders like Hayden Young. It's pretty much McKercher and Whitfield. Scully, Tambling, Fiora, Polec, Ray.... Clubs have learnt that top 5 is not the zone for outsiders. They rarely do it anymore. This is a fact.

My views are not absoluist. It's just playing percentages. There are always exceptions. The trick is not using the example of an exception to justify a decision.

"When you're at the top of the draft, you have access to the best balanced mids, bulls, and outside players. When you start moving up the ladder, you lose access to the top balanced mids and bulls, but still have access to the top outsiders. Do the maths."

Are you saying you think this is not generally true?

What about a future pick, second round perhaps, and back ourselves in?

It's not like Busslinger can't just ask to be traded anyway. The dogs can say no obviously but rarely does that happen.

JFC look at Barrass, or any other contracted player on the move.

Lobb, O'Donnell, and all the tall backs keeping him out of the AFL side currently are still going to be there next year. If I'm WCE I'm getting into the ear of his manager and reminding them of this.

Missed that. So 1 and 2 for Lindsay, Cummings, and Marshall.

I don't hate Lindsay at all. It we had a pick in the 5-10 range, I'd consider taking him.

I'm not the one in denial that he's not playing unaccountable and bruise free footy in the back line. How many players last playing unaccountable footy? So you got to teach him to be physical and accountable. Which will not allow him to play how he's playing. Dropping a top 2 pick on this sort of player is insane.
Nobody is in denial that hes playing a role for his team that sets him up for a lot of uncontested footy. But thats literally right at the top of our needs list besides maybe that Sharp type, someone who is elite at uncontested footy.

so not what we want

Except it's not. It's all about timing.

It's really hard for this type of player to excel in a shit team that is losing the contested possession count. If you think a player like this can transform a bottom 4 team, you're kidding yourself. These guys help take mid table teams to top 4.

So anyone saying, "we just have to have this type of player now", is delulu. We need to be better in the contest first.

If the opportunity comes to to him by not using pick 1 or 2, take him if he's the best option. I don't think you can play him in the back half yet. He'd have to play wing and potentially have stints through the middle.

But there is no rush to take this type of player now.

A thin draft ay....what a year to have multiple picks...LOL

Grljn at 6 is a big reach.

Evans will be an Eagle. He's our best NGA prospects to date, better than Collard.

Banfield is comfortably a top 40 prospect.
Like a lot of other people I agree Grlj has been a fraction underwhelming but I think the foundations of the rebuild are going well enough we could reach on him. His skills and line breaking abilities are certainly something we could do with. Hes a dead ringer of Darcy Jones

The players tied to us are only ok. Sometimes we get emotionally attached or see other clubs do well ie GC and think everyone in our system is an automatic winner.

There's definitely tiers before 8. There always is. And in this weakly perceived draft, even more so. There wouldn't be a club in the country who has the first 8 on par.

Roughly half of the best players in the AFL were taken in the top 5. The rest were taken somewhere between 6 and 60+. The top 5 is where the action is. Need I remind you that we went 10 years without a top 10 pick and it ran us dry. Compromising your top 5 draft picks for 30 year old players is a bad idea.

btw, the weaker the drafter is, the stronger the value of top 5 picks are. The cliff is closer.
That's the thing I haven't sold out of this year's draft just slided a fraction. If you could get 3 year out of Marshall why Archer develops i can't see that being a bad thing.

McVee issue is his role at Demons so doubt he comes here to play the same role . He would want a spot on the wing or in the midfield. Same goes with Starcevich

Id be happy to take one of them on as a winger myself with big preference on McVee. Give them a future 2nd or the like

Ask Mitch Brown about how "rarely does that happen'' :'(
Ask all the players since 2012 who’ve asked to be traded how rare they think it is.

True, rare not never.

Also if you asked both parties I think they'd both be unhappy with how this played out.

Missed a trick there. Brown got nothing out of staying whilst WCE shot themselves in the foot hanging onto ç grade depth.

Brown got a finals appearance!
