None… and he is a shell of a player that he was.. you would be silly to give anything of value for him
Players drop off rapidly in the mid twenties now. Their best years are up to around 24/25, and then quickly stagger down to mediocrity. Grab the best years and offload them Chris Judd style

Out of curiosity, who in our 22 would be get ahead of?
Your team this week
Farrar
Holman
Ainsworth
and Imo Long as well, Ryan getting the ball inside 50 like the Suns get and he is superior to all of these players.

We’ve seen how forwards like Owies can look in our team. Any of those Suns players playing for the Eagles and they would be having no impact imo.

No needle mover, but I think Chayce Jones is worth a go. Don’t think he did anything entirely wrong to lose his spot in Adelaide’s team, I think he could be our sort of Ben Keys, new place, new belief. Reminds me like a Liam Baker, has some mongrel and is a nice kick. Think he would be pried for not much.
Nope

Serve me up a slice of hot piping Sam Berry though

If the club tell him that despite what they told him a year ago they now consider that he is not best 22 and is unlikely to get a regular game going forward. Thus you will be playing mostly WAFL. That will likely be enough for his manager to sound out interest from other clubs. Whether there is any interest i don't know. Maybe not. But if you in his position and were told you were going to play WAFL for the next two years and then be cut then you would look at your options.
Pretty sure clubs aren't going to tell anyone whose contracted for 2 more years they won't be getting a game TBH.

One year could make a case for paying him out, not two.

Will Brodie would like a word with you...

Without going full 'Chris Judd' - in hindsight we should have (IMO) been not giving long contracts out as frequently as we did. If players/manager were holding us over the barrel then let them go, trade them out and draft. It's one reason we are where we are.

The flip side is if all the best players want long contracts and the eagles refuse to do them, no good players will chose to go / stay at West Coast

If we do trade out Ryan and draft in Darcy Cameron, I see that as near on perfect.
Both players would probably have very similar trade values and are of a similar age.
We lose an aging forward pocket player, when we are striving to give opportunities to Malakai Champion, Long, Newton and soon to be drafted NGA players (so plenty of options). Whilst gaining an AFL quality Ruckman, which is a dire need of our football club.
So essentially a straight swap between players and we maintain our strong draft hand, bloody brilliant!
Some merit here. We can also fully pay Ryan’s 2025 salary so more contenders might be happy and improve his value.

Most players best years are between 25 and 30. Players who peak before then are either a) injured or b) not that good.

According to Paddy Sweeney the expansion clubs and Fremantle should win a premiership before any assistance is given to WC, and they/we are getting pick two so that is enough.

Also cited trading picks for Kelly and last year's trade of picks.

WA Nine news reporter writing for the Age. It's like the West vendetta now expanding to nine news reporters. Did we lock him out of our clubrooms Or refuse an interview ?

Until someone does a colourful visual table showing where our picks should have been and where they ended up to illustrate how hamstrung we have been trying to rebuild through the draft, I don't think it's going to sink into some heads.

But with all that said, I don't really want a PP myself. I'll take the pick 2, but I don't consider that a gift. It's just on par with what's come before it. Give me pre listing NGAs and extra list spots, let us pump coin into that get ourselves out of the mess.

I wish "journalists" would do a thorough analysis of what happened rather than report their gut vibe with a couple of half baked thoughts.

TK trade and split pick last year is not the problem or a driving factor behind why we are this bad now. Complaining about the split pick is particularly idiotic - every media talking head telling us we need to get ourselves out of this mess and bring as much talent in as possible, yet 1 high end pick won't fix us & the draft is so compromised that the first round extends past pick 30. Of course we bloody split the pick, what else could we do?

We should have split the Harley pick and got more talent in though.

Just imagining a world where we have Dan Curtin and Koltyn Tholstrup in their first year while Harley streaks away with the RS over east. Wonder if we'd be criticised for that...

I'd be OK if pick2 was on offer and Allen was separated but alas 👎 WA media supporting WA teams, alas no.

I was following along with the trade and draft of West Coast, and they were really in a no win situation.
Reid was talked up as a generational talent. If you have the pick to get him you really have to.
People in hindsight can say you should have split the pick and got Curtin plus another, but look at how much criticism WC got for splitting other top picks.

Once they took him they did everything to try and get back in to get Curtin. You couldn't do any more than offer your first future pick for pick 8.

And that furture first was gold plated.

Yep, most expected it to be at pick 1 or 2, in the deepest draft in a long time. Couldn't really offer more than that.

My only criticism would be that WC should have offered Curtin a God father offer this year. One mill a year for three years. They had the cap, and could easily have afforded it.
But even then, when Curtin re-signed he hadnt hit this heights he did after.

No-one will ever get assistance if they have to wait for Freo to win a premiership.
