never mind

gees does anyone good win a brownlow these days?

Cooney is going cheap (mostly due to being nearly 30 and having a degenerative knee and WBD wanting as many top 30 picks as they can get, going into rebuild mode).

Carlton expect to get Cooney, Liam Jones and pick 43 for just pick 28, or so was the rumour yesterday.

WBD just want top 30 picks. Give up a second round pick and move it down slightly the draft and Cooney is ours. I'm completely on board. We need all the experience we can get with our currently very young list.

Yes, but Greenwood experience, not a 29yo with a knee held together with knitting wool, clag glue and a barrel o monkeys experience.

Cooney fit is a bloody good player, forget the Woewoedin comparison. It's just the injury profile and age that rule him out for our group.

I have heard Cooney would not past a medical at most clubs

However Stevie J also failed a so called medical at Collingwood once

If we didn't make a pitch for Malceski with artificial knees, we sure as hell aren't going to chase Cooney with stuffed ones.

Don't get me wrong. Collingwood won't recruit Cooney. Everything suggests they'll look for mid career guys as our window is not open or looking relevant for the next 1-2 years.

But the difference with Malceski and Cooney is Malceski on that contract would keep us out of free agency for several years.

Cooney on the other hand would be beneficial, not take much money, nor much currency to acquire. Maybe Blair is enough to get him. Cooney injects the pace and power through the midfield that we need. For even a 1-2 year rental who can make us better. I'm happy to see us do something proactive to get better on the condition it doesn't limit us from making future free agency plays or cost anything that will set us back long or short term.

In addition to Cooney though I also would be aggressively going after Garlett, Varcoe, Greenwood, M.Clark and established players from Brisbane among other players to increase our premiership relevance. With the dynamic today if you're not adding guys, you're losing them and drifting into obscurity. Hawthorn best apply this concept yearly adding established players to an already dominant team and through that process yearly make themselves better. They pick and choose and get their player identification right but all of these guys if they could be had would improve our best 22 and give us something that can improve our best team.

Didn't Cooneys output spike again this season? He averaged 20 touches and 3 tackles even though he was a sub a few times.

A second round pick for a guy that can barely walk? Noooooooooooo

Cooney has been productive these past couple of seasons with 2011/2012 his down seasons. He is still an effective impact player who can do some damage. He is a short term rental which won't appeal to us as a team unloading the older players but he someone who can despite the opinions of others it seems still help winning,
