Did you see Jono Brown's first game?
Didn't touch it
Wasn't Gaults first game though. Let's be honest, it was about as bad as it gets.

He played like it was his first game, no composure, these are the only contributions I can remember:Wasn't Gaults first game though. Let's be honest, it was about as bad as it gets.

It's fair to say Mr Brown progressed nicely indeed....Did you see Jono Brown's first game?
Didn't touch it
And yet in the last ten minutes when everything was against us....he took a mark (didn't kick the distance but we knew that) he got a centre bounce tap (we didn't get many of those) and he competed just as hard as anyone. Until White starts taking marks overhead or Cox gets promoted and can play....I'm fine with letting Gault find out where he fits within the side. He's a kid, he needs confidence, dropping him now will just ensure he never gets the confidence that one good game can give.
Now Tommy Langdon and Caff of the other hand...![]()
Just wanted to separate Langdon and Macaffer. Now Tommy Langdon and Caff of the other hand...![]()
Whatever White lack of footy thinking, his limitations he's well ahead of Gault thus far.But he's not a "kid" anymore. He's been in the system 4 years, and is only 4 years younger than White. People don't seem to get that. He has never come close to providing what White can provide for us in the forward line, and yet peopke keep wanting to give him a chance and want White delisted and keep calling him shit.
White has his clear limitations, no doubt, but he is a more than serviceable 2nd or 3rd (ideally) tall forward who can compete in the ruck. He wont kick a game open and wont dominate, but he will always keep his man honest and is generally good for 1-2 goals a game and a few key marks up forward.
I have never seen Gault get even close to that at AFL level. In fact unless you count his first game (where Hawthorn basically ignored him) i have never come out of a game thinking that he even made a contest with his opponent... And most of the time his opponent is playing very loosely off him and covering the rest of the forward line.
Fair enough give him anothe game or two (at the most) but at some point we have to bite the bullet and accept he just not up to this standard. (which is nothing to be disappointed about - its a brilliant effort just getting an AFL game)

Simple scenario: today you are picking the Grand Final side, we are doing well all us good, spate of injuries we only left with the third tall and there standing is Jesse and Cory. Only can pick one?
White for me clearly.
If it's two years away well maybe you punt Cory will develop, that is the Hail Mary call.
And you are probably right, very likely yes.Same scenario - but if we have to pick for the 2018 GF without knowing what happens between now and then: my money would very much be on a 30yo White rather than a 26yo Gault... And for me, that is the clear difference in why I don't see Gault having much of an AFL future with usm
And you are probably right, very likely yes.
I like your 2018 scenario. Because that's what's happening in a way, preparing for a better future.
I've done all my assumptions that both are fit and healthy.
And taking it one step further, if the third person was available being Cox, and one only?
I'd plump for Cox easily actually.
I'm one of those who really backed his promotion.
Looks like he may have fooled us again. Oh well, Howe is there now and I guess we could always bring back...*gulp* Jesse White.
Can't we promote Cox due to Swan?

In: WhiteI respect your view mate but in my opinion there is nothing surer that Gault being dropped this week. He spent most of the second half on the bench.
I agree. Offers more than Grundy and at least competes and gets his hands on it in the Ruck.
In: White
Out: Gault
Easily decided and accomplished
Cox has to show some form first. He only has one good NAB game in this year's credits column. Not enough to be put on the senior list yet.I rather give Cox a go and White is a Defender now

Got to agree, he didn't look at all like an AFL playerI respect your view mate but in my opinion there is nothing surer that Gault being dropped this week. He spent most of the second half on the bench.

It was worth a try, now we go to plan B with his position
