G Cornes said on radio 5AA Sports Show last night that he believes N Bassett has the most runs on the board to be the next coach of the AFC based on his results and what he was able to do in bringing Norwood from bottom to a Grand Final with the same playing list and then having that many of his mature players drafted and then still be able to have Norwood sitting second on the SANFL ladder this year.

I agree with Cornesy the whole way. Rowe think Bass needs to go to Melbourne club as an assistant to do an apprenticeship but I dont agree. He is only recently retired was in a leadership group and would know what is required in the AFL. If his strength has been his game plan and to get the best out of his playing list at Norwood and developing youth why does he need to go work under someone else. He is the one that should be teaching others this if this is an area he has excelled in. Some can do it some cant .

CMON AFC appoint Bass . We need a Mick Malthouse type personality to coach this club not some Yes man like Goodwin who would give us supporters nothing.

Does anyone know what sort of relationship (friendly, amicable, dislike, hatred) Nathan Bassett has with Scott Burns?

As he would be a very good assistant coach and they came through Norwood together?

Because be ****ed of he brings Jarrod Cotten with him as an assistant coach

I was in a Cab Monday morning Cornes was on at 10 to 8 and said he knew Bass was right for the job after Norwood beat Glenelg in the finals last year.

Big Freaking deal i have seen SAAFL sides that would beat Glenelg in finals.Thats like saying some one would make a good dentist as he brushes his teeth every day.

I would be very happy if Bass got the gig, even if it meant Craig stayed on for another year and then played the mentor.

Get Rehny on board as an assistant, and get some assistants from other clubs. Happy days!

I would be surprised if Bass agreed to this, if you made him coach he would want to pass or fail under his own terms.

Everyone knows my opinion sign him up and do it now.

yeah and in three years time everyone complains that he only got the job because of the boys club and we hire too many ex players.

ha ha ha laughable.

Who ever coaches next year, has to coach for 3 to 4 years as a minimum.

Hmmm - not sure about that. We hire someone who has never experienced AFL systems outside of the Crows, we run the risk of limiting ourselves.

Look - he's better than Goodwin as a choice, and I'd be all for the selection, but he would need some decent senior assistants who come from successful AFL backgrounds.

Unlike the appointment of Neil Craig, the AFC board need to have a quality interview process for the job. Not some shifty process where we all knew who had the job beforehand and find the best person for the job and if Nathan Bassett is that person and the board follow a process where every candidate is given a fair chance to apply for the job, how can anyone say it's the boys club at it again.

Bass is very close with Craig and I would bet if he were to have a mentor Craig would be his first choice. I have no doubt about that.

As for Bass wanting to pass or fail under his own term. Dont worry about that for 1 second. Bass is and always has been his own man, in a similar way Smart and Rehn are aswell. Throw Rehn in as an assistant and there will be some big personalities in the coaches box.

Thing that worries me about Rehn, is he came out in the Rag today stating to bring Maric in and go 2 rucks against Otto becuase Pittman sure heled him. This either means dropping Smack or going super tall with 1 guy who plays 40% TOG. If he up to speed with the modern AFL game?

Maybe he thinks Maric is worth another go and is sick of seeing soft blokes pull on the red blue and yellow.

I can see his point though,

Limiting ottens effectivness could be key to limiting the damage of their midfield.
