I think the league and the 18 clubs will be fine for this season. Plenty of staff will go and the AFL will need a considerable loan, but we could see no football this year and still have all 18 clubs ready to go for the start of season 2021.

If next year was still impacted by the virus or potentially by a second wave though, then we might see some more serious trouble.
Next year will be affected anyway, I think the likelihood of clubs having the same membership numbers and apparel sales, with all of the people losing jobs and so forth. People will have to cut back somewhere. And the clubs will still be suffering.
But on the other hand, with the footy being starved of us this year and if we don’t see any more footy this year.
Round 1 next year might be massive! 🤔

I guess the hard thing is just the uncertainty. This thing could go in so many different directions. Let's say we lock down and have essentially eradicated the disease by June (unlikely with current measures but who knows) - then things will re-start (albeit not international travel) and jobs will return too.

Or maybe - and this is probably the biggest hope and most likely best case scenario - one or more of these treatments being trialled proves to be very effective for those suffering. If they find a treatment that keeps people out of ICU beds, and they can find a way to mass produce it, then the whole world can essentially re-start. That is the one thing giving me hope really - it seems the only shortcut out of this scenario that doesn't mean ongoing months of health and economic disaster.

But if we can't contain it here and no cure comes, then we're just in limbo until there's a vaccine. In that case, I think you're right that many people won't have discretionary funds for things like the footy for the next couple of years (if crowds are even allowed to go to games). TV ratings would be sky high though.

I think it's very unlikely that this emotionally distances people from footy for the long term - distance makes the heart grow fonder and all of that. People will be aching for normality and the things that used to bring them joy.

Yeah, be great if something like Hydroxychloroquine does prove to be effective. Very easy and cheap to make.

Many, many trials of different treatments happening all over the world.

I don't think so, numbers are still manageable.

Yeah tend to agree. I guess it's a day by day proposition though. The media certainly want a NZ style lockdown, trying to push that narrative in their click bait stories. Qld had an alarming spike today of 62 new cases. Umm, no that's around what they've had each day for the last four or so days.

A total lock down is a big call to make. And at the end of the day, it won't eliminate the virus. Its still just a slowing the spread / flatten the curve measure.

In WA 50% of cases are from overseas, 25% have had contact with people from overseas and the rest are from cruise ships.

At this stage NSW seems to be the only State really struggling to keep things under control.

With the number of retailers closing up Sunday, and plenty already closed, we are getting a stage 2.5 "lockdown" as less people will go out as there is less places to shop.

Might be enough to help avoid a full lockdown.

I think it’s a wonder drug. I’m in 200mg/day and I have to have a heart scan and eye test yearly as known side effects are congestive heart failure and blindness.

Totally worth it - rheumatoid arthritis and lupus best they’ve ever been.

Why the f$ck is this election going ahead tomorrow? Totally irresponsible in my opinion.

We aren’t voting and they can jam the fines wherever is least comfortable.

The number of infections seems to have stabilised and possibly trending lower. If it cranks after tomorrow we will all suffer longer shut downs to elect a bunch of people who are largely irrelevant at this point time. Even though they obviously see themselves as more important than the population staying isolated.

I sure that under an emergency status there are provisions for staying the elections.

Also I haven't been able to drink most beers since I started on hydroxychloroquine, plus the nausea was in an arse for the first few weeks. Hopefully my arthritis appreciates it though (but it's so inconsistent it's honestly hard to tell).

And another rant (sorry bout that) this pisses me off.

If the Chinese government wanted supplies it should have been done through government channels that enable reciprocal deliveries when we in need.

The companies that sent their staff out to buy the goods and the staff themselves should be kicked out of the country as they were acting completely outside their normal scope of business.

My daughters are icu nurses that are already rationing PPE. They are using under graded gear with current patients as they do not have enough for the expected covid patient load. They know they will be exposed and it’s scary right now.

Ditto my kids one of whom has been asked to reuse her mask. Totally against all healthcare protocols.

Let's not beat about the bush: here we are being pillaged by the people who started the whole thing. Either that or it was the CIA. Take your pick.

Took a while for me and it was a slow change so it was hard to judge. At nine months my hands ached less and by 18 months I’m having fewer autoimmune flares across the board and they don’t last as long. Hope it works out for you.

Agree it makes booze less inviting. Damn it.

Once The "Active Cases" vs time forms a discernible bell curve, that's when real progress is made. For this to happen, the recovery rate needs to exceed the new infection rate, which in most countries in the world seems an age away. But it can be done, as in South Korea who we appear to be attempting to mimic with strict social distancing rules combined with a high testing rate.
