I hope this lady is right.

Not the government admitting they're creating a new problem is it?
I’m not a scomo fan but what problem are they creating?.

How the hell do we get through a crisis like this without a massive increase in stress which exacerbates mental heath issues etc. imo they should get a tick for recognising the problem and acting to provide additional funding.

To a certain degree I have to disagree, these areas should be funded anyway.

Have you watched any of these trump, pence and team press conferences? There are a lot of officials and experts with him.

They’re fairly long and a lot involves taking questions and trump answers and or calls another team member to the mic. It’s like the we’ll be back at work by Easter, he didn’t say that it was more a goal and has obviously been walked back. I saw him yesterday still talking about getting back to work but clearly articulating that it was dependent on the situation which was difficult to predict and changing rapidly.

It’s like getting asked how long can these restrictions last, how long can the lockdown last. Scomo isn’t great but he’s getting the same thing, lockdown now, don’t lockdown, we hope to be coming out of this by ?. Whatever answer he gives gets shredded by one group or another, I’m as bad as anyone I want a full lockdown now.

The brits were apparently going with one approach then looked at the facts and went into lockdown, that’s just common sense to me.

No, they didn't.

* New cases in Vic yesterday was 111, which was 66% more than the previous highest number of 67.
* New cases in NSW yesterday was 212, which was slightly higher than the previous highest of 211.

Overall Australia had 459 new cases yesterday, which was 20% higher than the previous highest of 382.
Might've been a few days ago. Saw it on The Ages insta page.

Badly underfunded over a long period so in that sense yes, also both sides of politics share the blame for that.

The cure is worse than the disease right now.

It should have been realized well before that thier actions will lead to an increase mental health issues. All they'd done is fix one issue by creating another.

I know one side gives tax cuts or franking credits and one would rather fund services, one side has been in government for a very long time and needs to take responsibility.

Let's move on from the bi-partisan politics - it is not the time. We need to look after each and act to be able to do so.

I have a lot of friends in hospitality who are out of jobs. Two of my good friends have worked for themselves running a venue (comedy club), a booking agency etc and have been self sufficient and this has now been ripped away - they have no income / nothing. Will be taking over some stuff to them as I know they would for us.

I hope all levels of government and society put the bs aside and work together and we can see that is what is needed in to the future.

I’m sorry I really don’t get what you’re suggesting we do differently.

If it’s that we should have just carried on as if nothing was happening then I think we have data from other countries and modelling that predicts that’s a disastrous approach. Not many jobs or good mental health when society inevitably breaks down. Massive stimulus measures being taken in several countries where clearly the choice has been made to protect lives over jobs, morally can you justify massive death tolls for business as usual?.

Both are needed ie:

- measures such as lockdowns and

- investment and stimulus in relevant services and stimulus for business and increased relevant payments.

There will be people on these forums who are affected, and will react differently. Now is the time to look out for them, reckon St Kilda fans have needed resilience for a long time this helps!!

Let's cut some slack to those on here and understand that some are now coming from a vulnerable place

We can't carry on as normal. But we can't go over the top. There's a balance to be had.

Overstated article but interesting points. The worst aspect of this government is the outsourcing of all decisions of government. They have enquiries, royal commissions or task forces for everything. Usually a nepotistic exercise in paying corporate heavyweights huge money for something the government should have made a call on in the first place.

I think the experts are saying you can do a 6 to 12 week hard lock down, otherwise it could go on for 6 months to a year. I'd rather short and sharp than drawn out.

Drawn out will do more damage than a short sharp one.

The language gets a bit colourful, but I laughed. Hope I'm not breaking too many rules.

Won’t it just come back until they get something that will treat the virus? Obviously if every single person locked down and there was no travel it would stop but not every person can lock down. And then there are others who just won’t care. Remember this started with one person.

It's the reversal they want not a vaccine. They say you can do it in 6 weeks.
