...weren't the first, most fundamental things that were taught to any kid learning to bat:
i) Play with a straight bat
ii) Keep your bat and pad together when playing forward
iii) Move your front foot to meet the ball
If that's the case, then why are 50% plus of Aussie wickets cross-bat flashes with little to no footwork and at least 30cm between bat and pad?
And Siddle goes in EXACTLY the way I'm describing.
Granted, the Poms are swinging the ball (which as an aside we seem unable to do), but that's no excuse. If anyone was fortunate enough to watch Kallis yesterday you would have seen the PERFECT technique. High elbow, bat and pad together, long strides to meet the ball. Result? 161.
