Cotchin gets 3 weeks with an early guilty plea.

High contact, high impact, reckless conduct on a charge.

He is pretty stiff. I really like the way he plays. Is a gun now and wil only get better.

The fact that Sam Wright was knocked out and taken to hospital, no doubt, had a huge say in this suspension.

Where is the high contact in that hit?

He got him right smack in the middle of the back, if that's high, what happens when you hit someone in the head? Is it then categorised as the moon?

What was worse about that bump then the three David Hille ones early on in the season. MRP are a joke!

Him Going to Hospital would be a very massive say in that.

Andrew Walker who did the same thing Ben Johnson did and got a Reprimand and BJ got 6 Weeks

The Walker one was fair enough, he went to pull out but slipped on the shitty Etihad surface, so the fact the ground contributed to the contact saved him.

Well I guess the Crappy Ground at Docklands does have it's Benfits;)

Interesting to read your comments guys. Having read some reactions on the Tiges and Kangas boards, obviously we/they are both biased in different directions. Figured you guys gain something from his suspension, so to read that most of you think it was a harsh penalty confirms my similar thoughts. When I saw it live, I agreed it was worth the 50m penalty, but could not believe when I found out he was reported on the day. After seeing the replay, thought he could possibly get two and take one with early plea.

With Jackson and Cotchin out, our clearance work takes a huge hit, and it has been one of our biggest positives for the year.

Hopefully the club fights it, and at least gets it reduced to two weeks. Have a feeling Cotch may not have played this week any way. Apparently he was 50/50 before the Kangas game, and looked a bit lethargic during the game.

Cheers.

Didn't think it was high contact myself, and I do think 3 weeks is very stiff. A couple at best, I reckon.

Obviously as it caused injury to Wright it was always going to look worse, if he'd got straight back up I reckon he might have got fewer weeks.

Not sure what Cotchin was thinking, though, massive brain fade along the line of Cloke's last week.

Yeah, found it puzzling that Grant Thomas on FC said-" Oh yeah, that was straightforward for the tribunal, guilty as" and he wasn't being sarcastic.
Was only worth 50,MRP's decision was based solely on the injury that the bump caused, which is ridiculous :thumbsd:

MRP needs to be scrapped and a whole new system brought in next year.

Probably the worst inconsistency I've ever seen.

I can see why he got SOMETHING. But 4 weeks/3 EGP? my lord that's harsh.

I think the penalty was harsh considering he didn't hit him high. It was worth one or two weeks though because he did dip down and plough into his unprotected body.

Would have been far less harsh if Cotchin had at least looked like going for the mark / spoil at any point.

Wright contributed to the damage when he turned his head for a peek behind allowing a lot more torque to be aplied to his brain. Still probably would have been KO'd but the way his head snapped around would have been mitigated if he was in a more braced position after watching the ball into his hands.

Cotchin is appealing.

He will plead guilty to the charge but is looking to have the high impact downgraded to medium impact and high contact to body contact.

Hoepfully for him it gets downgraded and he only misses a week or 2.

50 metres. That's all it deserved.

It was dumb luck that Wright got injured. I think they need to look at intent here. Hille lifted his elbow right up and was trying to do a hatchet job. Outcome shouldn't determine intent.

Walker's bump deserves 3 weeks, Cotchin's, zero. Eminently more dangerous and risky.

IMO it deserved a week, it's just that you look at Hille's earlier in the year, and then Cotchin's, there isn't much difference between the two.

The MRP just have to find consistancy.

Yeah, Hille should have got a week or two for that imho.

I dunno...it looked like a pretty vicious hit to me...ignoring MRP inconsistency, I don't think it deserved four, but definitely a couple.

The MRP is a joke.

Hille was atleast airborne and committed to the marking contest before Bartel cut across him and Hille turned his body as he made contact.
Cotchin's, just looked like a frustrated ramming of Wright and he was never in the contest. Agree that Walker deserved weeks.

Excellent thread and even better posting in it.:thumbsu:
He will still miss this week against the Pies, but it deserved no more than two weeks at absolute most. Hopefully it gets downgraded.
