Jaime Elliott won't play again for us for the rest of year and we might've seen the end of him unfortunately such is the nature of the injury.

Terrible luck for the young man!

JAMIE Elliott has suffered another setback on his troublesome back and there is a possibility he will require surgery, which would sideline him for the rest of 2016.

The Magpies high flyer will visit a specialist next week to determine the best course of action.

The worst-case scenario for Elliott would be season-ending surgery.

The high-flyer re-injured his back during a training drill last Tuesday and the meeting will be used to plan out his rehabilitation from there.

Elliott has been battling a condition known as pars defect in his back and the club stated less than a month ago he was four to 12 weeks away from a return.

The star Magpie has not played a game this season.

I logged on thinking you were announcing a tearful retirement from here TG. Hang in there mate, hard to be negative after a 78 point win but i fear you will be back in your element after Sat.

The announcement seems to refer to worse case scenario of season ending. RS has indicated something similar in the Blackmores thread, rather than career ending.

To be honest TG I think him getting his health back is more important than his career.

Some things are more important than footy.

Id rather see him retire and just be able to walk around later in life than push it to something that could cripple him.

Anatomy
Each lumbar vertebra has a large, blocky front portion called the "body." The rear portion has several knobby parts that project from it. Two of these project downward, where they form joints with the segment below, and two project upward to form joints with the segment above. The bony bridge that connects the upper and lower projections is the pars interarticularis, and there is one on each side of the vertebra. The pars interarticularis is sometimes just called the pars.

Pars Defects
Pars defects sometimes develop on one side only, but if breaks occur that involve both the right and the left pars, the vertebra becomes separated into two pieces. Proper healing of bone breaks requires that the fracture ends be immobilized in close contact. These conditions are rarely achievable with pars injuries, so the breach fails to mend. This persistent separation is what is called a pars defect. For many years, it was assumed that pars defects were congenital anomalies, or birth defects. Today, we understand that most pars defects are really stress fractures that usually occur in the spines of young people. The presumed cause is repeated hyperextension, or backward bending, of the lumbar spine. Pars defects often affect athletes whose spines are frequently stressed in this manner, such as gymnasts, divers and football linemen.

OP could get a job writing share market headlines for Fairfax. Just as outlandish as the ones you'd see on The Age website.
GWS fan? Which team did you give up on to become one of those..

Hopefully it's not the case, but the outlook doesn't look great.

I"m surprised they may be going the surgery route because I had read that surgery would most likely mean career over.

Maybe we should wait till he's consulted the specialist before coordinating the funeral.
