Opinion Could MDB become our Priddis?

Some of the commentary on this thread is unbelievable, have you even seen em both play without blinkers on?

Priddis is a genius apart from the obvious kicking. MDB doesnt have 1/10th the skillset that Priddis has at the coalface. If we are tapping to him 20% of the time we are in barney rubble...

Wow....Priddis is a genius now?

His own supporters board even begs to differ. The guy has a massive tank and is a ball magnet because he goes in hard and never gets injured or suspended. There's 90% of what it takes to win a Brownlow right there.

Without players outside of him though he is useless, as he gets most of his touches in the back half of the ground which means zero scoreboard pressure. Even Glenn Jakovich said that after a barrage of Twitter abuse for not selecting him as All Australian. In the last two derbies he was totally out played by Lachie Neale.

Put Priddis up against Gary Ablett, Nat Fyfe, Daniel Rich, Robbie Gray, Josh P Kennedy, Scott Pendlebury and Nathan Jones and then tell me that he is a genius.

He's no dud though.

Good comment.
Priddis is certainly no superstar with lighting speed or incredible skills but he does the close in stuff better than most and his jogging style seems to put him in the right place for the easy recieve out side the packs remarkably often too he's just always around the play which gets him plenty of ball. He deserved the brownlow because he got the votes ...that's the concept, there are better awards to identify the actual best player in the afl than what the silly umpires come up with. For that reason even bringing the Brownlow medal into the debate when comparing players skill levels is nonsense. It would make more sense to use the players or coaches awards as reference. People accusing Priddis of not deserving the Brownlow are obviously caught up in the prestige of the award over its merit.
If MDB trundled his way to 90% of contests stood like a tree and managed more often than not to scrounge the ball out to his team he too would be doing good things in front of the umpires face 90% of the time which could get votes, is he as good as Priddis? Who cares!! Probably better in some ways worse in others, different roles for different souls. The key to a successful team is having a good balance of different style players. 4 or 5 priddis' would be the shitest midfield in the afl so comparing players is pointless if the balance isn't right.
Barlow is your Priddis type role and any more may upset the balance anyhow.

Good post, except for Barlow bit. Barlow is used quite differently, probably should be more in the guts, but generally isn't. I would also argue that Barlow has a more rounded game than Priddis too; Barlow has a better kick on him, better goal sense and better overhead as well, but that's all splitting hairs. I know where you're coming from in general.

No he's not half the player of Priddis. He is clumsy with his attack, and gives away way too many free kicks.
So NO.

There is fine line between tough and breaking the rules, he still hasnt worked it out. It was fine under Harvey as were never in a flag position, but its glaring obvious now.
