Opinion Could this be Freo's new team song?

My memory may be playing tricks with me but wasn't there a time in Western Australian footy when "the song" wasn't a big part of the victory celebrations. I've been a South Fremantle supporter since 1975 but I'd be buggered if I can remember the words to the Bulldogs song or even the tune. I always thought "singing the song" was a peculiarly Victorian thing.

Donald where's your troosers.
I always thought our song should be a sea shanty, I've been trying to write one in my head for years to the tune of Botany Bay.

They're all bad. They are meant for kids. They are twee little songs about football, based on show tunes. The reason why the old ones for established clubs don't sound as bad is because everyone grew up with them.

In 100 years no one will care. West Coast's song is similarly appalling but no one really gives a shit now.

Strictly speaking, when I'm 50 I hope the song is still the same. Why? Well, look at how music has changed in the last decade. So stick with the song, it's the part of the club and great fun too sing when we've won.

Although, I wouldn't mind a better singer for the song proper. Instead of some youth-rally-miscue-with-audience sort of vibe the current singer gives off.

Basically the song comes off as if it's asking to be cool i.e 'Dock Dock Dockers, show em how we rock', Would prefer if the ridiculous lyrics were sung with a deep gusto. It'd almost give off the signal that we love our song and would belt with pride, in spite of the fact it has ridiculous lyrics.

Basically the song sounds like you grabbed the lone wharfie that wanted to make a break in the music industry. When it should sound like we got all the harbourmasters to sing it in perfect unison.

Yes. But souths used to play it when they ran onto the field. Not many clubs did. I don't think anyone played it after the game.

Club song revisited, again?
What's the point?

Every man and his dog feels the need to 'fix' the club song.

I guess the general public consensus is that our song is crap and no one likes it.

I however love it!

What's done is done. Why we had that members poll to change it - none of the alternatives were any really good and the membership base didn't want to go with the brand new different contenders.
So, we ended up with a revised version of the original. Time to move on.Why bother with this stuff again?

TNT has genuinely become our unofficial club song as well which isn't too shabby. Can't we all be happy with that?

That's OK for us, but what about the players? I've seen all of last year's games at least 4 times now, so I've heard the song sung a lot. It's pretty noticeable that the guys aren't comfortable belting it out.

They are sporting professionals. I'm sure they'll cope.

That's my only issue with it, I've always liked it when played out loud on the PA or whatever, but the words when sung in isolation are beyond terrible. I actually can't even watch them sing it after a win it's that embarrassing. Singing the song after a big win should be one of the best things about playing footy.

I guess one could say that many people didn't want to change from Mark Harvey either. But the move has been proven to be for the better.
Our song is crap and just about every other supporter thinks so. Do we accept crap or keep pushing for something better?
Just goes to show how hard change really is.
