Countdown clock at Subi

I noticed that there was a countdown clock on the big screen at Subi during the Swans game (how could you miss it when the crowd counted down the last 5 seconds). I'm strongly against it as I think it spoils the uncertainty at the end of a close game. Since this has come up a couple of times now, what do people think of it. Personally I think you should always have a count up clock, even on TV

Anyway if its going to be shown, why not show it in place of the main ground clock?

I prefer a count-up clock as it maintains the tension (my cardiac surgeon strongly disagrees with this point) and discourages players from wasting time by passing the ball around defensively.

The AFL is apparently going to launch an investigation into it. According to the article i read (some newspaper, i've got links to all of em. Cheaper than actually buying it` ), its against the AFL's rules to display a countdown clock and the guy that does the clock at Subi could be in a bit of trouble.

the subi ground manager was saying (according to the sunday times) that the clock has been shown in past games this year. it is because they have a direct feed from fox which unlike 9 or 10 always show the clock.

of course he could just be trying to sav his own skin.

I couldn't even see the clock counting down since the scoreboard was on the other side of the ground to where I sit (Block 106 - 2 tier) and I wasn't going to keep twisting my neck to see the scoreboard above the coaches box. I remember they used to have a 10 second countdown BEFORE matches used to start in the AFL, so whats the difference if the crowd can count down the last 10 seconds of the game.

I must admit I was looking at the countdown during the last ten minutes or so, but I'd rather it wasn't there.

It was just on the screen as part of the Fox feed, so I don't really know how they can get rid of it.

It seems from this mornings paper that some of the players noticed it but others didn't. Bet they'll all be looking next time!

Its the first time ive noticed it which is strange because its not the first time ive noticed that it was a FOX broadcast. I dont agree with a countdown clock because like Benno said in the paper today it encourages teams to play pass around ****ter tactic footy rather than play out the game. I think it will just be a simple matter of Subiaco taking the feed from 9 or 10 respectively so that they use their graphics which dont include the countdown, that or place another logo over the top corner clock.

No, I think they should not show the clock, even on the TV. It does take away the excitement & despair of the game when you know your team has won or closely lost.

The other point is right when said that it encourages the players to play keepings off, it should be played in the desperation that we all love to see.

I agree with most of the people here in the fact that the clock shouldnt have been shown. Especially considering the closeness of the game as it was.

Must admit that the last 5 seconds being counted down by the crowd was pretty cool though
