Why the hell didn't we get him our midfield would have been amazing this year and mark my words we would have won the grand final this year.

The story seems to suggest, Cousins wasnt "mentally ready" for an AFL return until after we knocked him back

Im not sure i would have wanted Cousins playing ahead of beams, sidebottom etc anyway. Its not like we would use him automatically to replace obree or tarxs etc

I can name 2 reasons why we didnt get Ben Cousins;

STEELE SIDEBOTTOM AND DAYNE BEAMS.

Both have the potential to be as good or even better then Cousins, and both wouldn't have had the game time this year they have had if Cousins was in Black and White.

We made the right decision, we may have lost by 22 points instead of 28 if Cousins played, and that would be a big if, with his ongoing injury problems.

we were to worried about the risks rather than the reward.
How would you like an ice addict coming into your club?

did you like the didak shaw stuff last year?
BJ and taz?
Swan 03?

I sure as hell didnt, and he wouldnt have made us that much better anyway

All people mentioning Beams and Sidebottom have to be realistic. Beams has been great this year Sidebottom good for a first year player but has had minimal impact. Meanwhile Ben Johnson is still getting a game. Ben Cousins would have improved out chance at winning a flag without a doubt and we would not be feeling the effect of missing Pendles quite as much if we had him in our midfield.

That said the choice to avoid him suggests A) that we prefer to be safe a marketable and B) We didn't realistically think we were a shot this year.

I'd do anything for a premiership and you have to take risks to win em
Cousins would not have won us a Premeirship and he wont win one at richmond. That is all that matters

I also find it offensive that you believe any of us wouldnt do anything for a collingwood premiership, im sorry i dont see a 30yo ex addict (who was not an ex anything when we courted him) would bring us one

I think a better question would be, how come we let Jurrah out of our grasp.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and in hindsight yes we should have taken him but i am 100% sure with the Shaw/Didak incident and other negative issues regarding players the club could not take that risk and you cannot really blame us for not doing so.

There is a fair bit of spin there. That 30 year old ex ice addict won't win won at Richmond because they are shitful. While it's hard to say if's and but's we would have a much greater chance with more players of his ilk. I.E Midfielders who have the ability to find there own ball, use it well and create on the outside too. His had a very solid season at Richmond this year and if anything would benifit from playing in a better line up.

Meanwhile we'd benifit from an extra consistant hard working ball winning mid making it harder for teams to tag all our midfielders and meaning when we get an injury, like we have with Pendles we don't feel it as much.

Cousins wouldn't have made much difference to us. He hasn't been that good anyway. Runs around in circles too much gathering handball stats and having little effect imo.

Hes a champion footballer and champions win you flags, I just think he would have made a huge difference hes a great leader and we could have given him the chance he needed. Im sorry if I offended you but i've seen quite a few heart breaking grand final losses and i just want to win the big one.

Spin? dont start

When Didak, davis, swan, pendlebury, obree were all in form you couldnt stop our midfield anyway. Is cousins really necessary there? no not really

Has cousins been the extraction machine he was of years previous or more a link up gut runner? (another link up gut runner great we can replace swan, and add another reason not to play wellingham)

Do you seriously believe cousins would have dragged us over the line yesterday? i dont

Very much how ive seen him this year

Hmm i think we have seen as many as each other, unless you remember the 70s and 80s

I clearly remember the 90s, trust me i know hard times. I just dont pin hopes on a 30/31yo

He would of made a huge difference, I think your under rating how good this man is, he is playing at Richmond a pretty shitful team, he will probably will win there b n f and he missed a couple of games. I would pin my hopes on a champion of the game and premiership player.

Another player running around the back for a handpass

He isnt the player he was at west coast anymore, he gut runs now thats it. One two handpasses dont impress me all that much nor does winning richmonds BnF

I think he could've been the player he once was with the likes of Didak, davis, swan, pendlebury, obree, Beams, Wellingham and Steele playing with him

I completely disagree

Well Just before he left West Coast look at that midfield he was playing with and look how good he was playing and go and watch his comeback game against Sydney where he racked 38 possies. He is a bloody freak

2 years, and about 3 or 4 serious hamstring injuries

Cousins would have been very useful in that period where we were injury ravaged imo. He'd still be useful now.

He would've improved the side overall, that's a fact.

He was a risk though, and I can understand why we didn't chase him.
