Ok I was at Bunnings the other day and as i do a lot of using eftpos. I always cover my pin as I assume we all do that, but the lady serving me actually ask me why I was doing that and looked at me strange. I just said I always do it and then she said, why we don't have cameras here, it not like anyone can she your pin.
Then i left, but I couldn't help but feel a little annoyed that she asked why i was doing it.

Do you always cover your pin while doing eftpos,ATM. and do you use your hand or do you even go to extreme lengths like using a book of something.

never trust anyone:thumbsu:

She is right, most people don't do it. Having said that, she should've minded her own business. If you want to cover your pin, by all means do it.

I don't get why you do it?
Are you worried about people behind seeing it, and mugging you in the carpark or something? Other than that.. who cares if they see what your pin is?

First thing I thought this thread was about was how you guys go about hiding a boner.

I don't go overboard about it, but I hold the hand I'm keying the PIN with over the keypad, use several fingers and do it quickly. It wouldn't be easy for anyone to pick the number out unless they were right there really obviously watching for it.

I'm not too fussed about it really, since as said above they'd have to mug you in the car park later for it to be useful, and since by then they've seen me they know I'm not someone you want to mess with.

So did I actually. Myself, I don't hide it, I leave it out there up and proud to give the ladies a thrill. They love it.

this.
as for that bish at bunnings, tell her to mind her ****ing business or ask to see her manager. who do these idiots think they are, in future just dump whatever shit you're buying at her register.
then tell that bish to make you a sammich

Because they would have to mug you to get your bank card. What the hell are they going to do with your pin alone? SFA.

Unless they've got a skimmer set up to record your card data.

The ones that have been found on Perth ATMs in the past year or so have had a skimmer reading the card plus a camera recording the PIN to go with it. I'm not aware of anyone doing that as a retail setup though, they're usually just going for credit cards details.

Yeh, I can understand a quick cover while using an ATM due to those recent scams, but at an EFTPOS machine is taking the paranoia a bit too far.

What kind of person serving at a checkout actually asks that? Whenever I've done checkout work I've just greeted the customer and if they try to carry on a conversation I'll do so with polite small talk.

Implying a customer is strange for doing something is lulworthy stupid. Can only imagine the amount of unhappy customers she has had.

There was a skimmer and camera at one of my local shopping malls earlier in the year at an ATM. Have no idea how they were able to set it up seeings as the ATM is inside the mall which is locked at night. Soon as I heard about it I started covering the keypad. Sometimes out of habit I will do it at a EFTPOS. Never had anyone call me on it though.

That's my method, just do it quickly with a blur of different fingers.

Can maybe understand covering your pin at an atm, not that I do it, but covering it an eftpos machine is being a bit over paranoid. Usually the only person that will see it is the checkout chick and she's hardly likely to scam you.

Yeah, unless your in fear of having your card stolen then it doenst really matter if the person behind you sees it. Also wouldnt they be able to use the card with a skimmer regardless of seeing the pin?

My mates went through the drive thru at McDonalds at about 2 in the morning a few weeks ago, and paid through eftpos. The mate basically just gave the guy the card, and just yelled out the numbers of his PIN. Pretty stupid, but he couldn't have done anything with it anyway.

I work in a bar and plenty of people who cant be bothered walking over to the eftpos terminal will just give me their card and tell me their pin.
Bit funny that the chick at the counter made such a big deal about it. I generally just look away when people are punching in their numbers.

WTH......

I had that for one of my first keycards.....

curious now - why that number combination?

I just saw my post for the first time, I had meant to post 2580 :D
