ok with the discussions of WFA racing i thought we'd see what everyones thoughts on the field for the Cox Plate will be abit early i know but, lets say with 10 acceptances.
Mine would be this i think:

1.Desert War
2.Tawqeet
3.El Segundo
4.Pompeii Ruler
5.Casual Pass
6.Tipungwuti
7.Haradasun
8.Miss Finland
9.Meurice
10.Grey Swallow

perhaps replace Grey Swallow with Efficient, but the word was GS was going to be prepared for the cox plate again

thoughts??

and put who you would replace

Looks pretty good, obviously very early but i would like to see both Hes no pie eater and Ambitious General take them on. ..... thats if they havent gone to stud and i just didnt hear about it

Marasco and i reckon that Maldivian can improve further and step up by the spring

Certainly Marasco & Mentality,Casual Pass is past his best & Tawqeet wouldnt get warm at 2040 at WFA.
Ill also pass on Efficient until he proves he didnt beat walkers in the Spring.

seth

3yo filly by then, very doubtful. They just dont win, very few even run in it.

Casual Pass, Grey Swallow, Tipungwuti, Tawqeet would be wasting their time in my opinion. Add Marasco. Efficient will be aimed at the cups as that is Williams' obsession.

Has everyone jumped of the Haradasun bandwagon after his 2nd to Desert War?, give the horse a break lads. He was flogged by Vasil over the autumn carnival and had run 3 times in 2 and a bit weeks all pretty much in the mud. Given he would have put on 10-20kg by the time his 4 and matured a bit more you would think he could compete with ES and PR quite comfortably.

I love the Pomp his massive stride is awesome to watch, but is it just me who think that Haradasun may be a little better (classier, special) than him?. ES may be past it (key word is MAY), he would have been up for 3 good seasons come the spring and may be wealtering a tad.

I think a fresh mature Haradasun may just have the measure of that field, its just a shame that HNPE wont be their, its a far worst shame than the Viscount injury a few years back. A huge loss for Australian racing.

On the subject of poor riding ES being driven up the arse of FofO going past the post the first time last year didn't do his chances of winning a great deal of good.

Ummm MArasco anyone, loss to PR twice due to poor riding....

Easily has ES covered... And still only 4....

I hope you don't think Marasco has ES covered on the basis of one race?
ES probably shouldn't have even raced in that race with the problems he was having with his feet.

Not sure what others think but I welcome them, saviour of the Melb Cup IMO.
Not only provide intrigue but their presence means our best horses receive weights which encourage them to run, unlike the pre 90's Cups.
Best horses now target the race instead of getting weighted out.
Imagine what weight MD would have got in 2005 without the internationals?

horses like vinnie roe etc... brought her weight down alot

Does anyone know what has hapen to Leica Falcon, he was probably our most promising stayer a couple of seasons back. Has he retired? is he back in work?
