Just saw at the TAB today that Weekend Hussler is paying $2.25 for the Cox Plate and from there it goes Pompeii Ruler ($7), Maldivian($9) and so on.

Do you think that Hussler is going to run and be a show in the Cox Plate and is it worth getting on the $11+ for more certain starters ans horses set for the PLate inparticular. Seeing as Hussler has to go for the Cups this year as the weight will be a bigger mountain than mount everest next year do you think maybe the $9 Maldivian or the $11 Tuesday Joy is worth getting on now as the odds will half if the Hussler is to be ruled out?

Also what are your thoughts on the Cox Plate being moved in the coming years. Rumour spreaded that the Valley would be getting demolished in the near future and Flemington was front runners to get the COX PLATE. If the plate gets moved then the race will be just like any other Group one at flemington IMO and will be an anticlimax of a race.

what ya rekon?

If the Cox Plate ever goes to Flemington I would be shattered and would probably not even go. I am thinking upon similar lines as you wireless that at his point in time the quote on the hussler is too short. I am a big fan of Pompeii Ruler and his last start against the hussler I thought was super impressive. If he plans to run in the CP I think I will be onboard.

Has WH been to the valley yet???

Agree. The Cox Plate is an institution for a group of us. We have the "Cox Plate Club", with life membership after 10 years. We love the atmosphere of the Valley which could never be duplicated elsewhere.

I really love the hussler but I can just see Pompeii Ruler running straight past him over 2000+. In particular over 2400.
Yeah true, i think Pompeii may just be one of those horses who runs good races without winning. its run a few placings this campaign and unless it wins a nice race this spring it would costly for punters. I have backed it at $34 for the Caulfield Cup and doubles into Efficent in the Melbourne Cup.
I would love to see Hussler get beat this spring in something like the Caulfield Cup and yeah i dont think its had a run at the valley. Might be the query in a horses career that doesnt have to many of them lol.

Cant say I agree with that statment. He is an Australia Cup winner and also won a few other races that prep if memory serves me correclty. This prep he has been beaten twice by WH over unsuitable distances and had a flat one 2nd up which is understandable.

I think the 2400m will suit him more than WH, but never knock a champion. Until someone can beat WH we should enjoy watching what is hopefully history in the making.

Seems as though Maldivian would fit into that cateogory this prep more so than PR.

What do you reckon boys???

I'd agree bomberboy, but Littorio would fit into the runs good races without winning. I'm excited about his potential but would love to see him actually win a race soon, especially between now and the end of the first tuesday in november.

Very true.
Was going to mention him.
Im not saying Pompeii is one of those horses in that category but he might become one this prep but hope not. Hes a fav of mine and hopefully pisses in the Caulfield Cup.
Also i hope for Mark Kavanaghs sake Maldivian wins a big race his spring.

cheers

I think saying he's a non winner is a bit rough. He hasnt got to a suitable distance yet and he's twice been close to the hussler. Put it this way if he's $9 in the caulf and hussler is $2 i know who id be backing.

So you reckon if the Underwood race went on for another 200m that PR would have run "straight past" WH?

Even S Arnold admitted that PR's run had ended before they approached the line.

If Pompeii Rulers run ended, then so too did Weekend Husslers at a greater rate... Pompeii was definatly gaining again on him in the last 20-30 meters... Thing that prob cost Pompeii the race ( or at least a photo finish ) was that when he was sprinting at his top he layed in slighlty and ran up teh back of the Hussler, thus stopping his run in its track and forcing the jockey to stop riding him and try and steer him into space....

I wouldnt pay one bit of attention to Ross McDonalds sprouting about how the Hussler keeps improving... He's just pimping his horse up and enjoying the attention....

Turnbull Stakes will be very interesting.....

One other point to note....

How do they do barrier draws?? The Hussler has drawn barriers 3-5 in its last 6 runs... No wonder its been dominating.... Interested to see how it goes when it has to work to get into a good spot....

I think ure a tab wrong there bomberboy.
Steven Arnold said that he though he was going to go straight past WH at the 200 but then he just died on his run and was going at the same rate at hussler.
I really like it for the caulfield cup Pompeii. Win alot of money if it wins.

yeah just think ure a bit worng on that one.

barrier draw is done by trainers or owners picking at random for the big races not sure bout the smaller ones!
