Trying to lower fan’s expectations from day one.
AFL360 doing exactly the same thing. Makes it sound like finals are 5-8 years away.
Unacceptable.

Will be very happy if he is true to his word and makes me proud of the team, win, lose or draw.
Because I haven’t been able to feel that on many occasions over the last few years.
What? you want him to say finals or bust next year despite having a young/inexperienced list?

Come on mate, don't be silly. He's been realistic, rather be realistic than over the top crap.

I know this is just a rumour..... but some bloke told me that this guy McRae played for Brisbane....

... and as a direct result I have spent way too much time in Collingwood territory today!

Great to see how welcoming everyone is being and, while you guys are used to seeing it, I loved the touch of Carlton Zero on the shirts  (hadn't noticed it before)

Love seeing clubs make good footy decisions rather than doing a Carlton!

Great choice of coach. A lot of people speaking so highly of him. We still have one big problem. Who kicks our goals?

I like him apart from his clenched hands bobbing up and down. He was understandably nervous, but handled the questions well. I like that he has a teaching background and his life experience extends beyond the football field, and that he has served a long apprenticeship, including at several successful clubs. Good luck to the guy. I hope it works for him and the club. Also good to see the end of Harvey and Sanderson, with the prospect also of securing Leppitsch.

“I spoke to the playing group before about certain things we want to see in place straight away when we get back.

“And some of them put their hand up and said there’s things they want to make sure they want to do when they get back and we will hold them to account to that. We will get them to honour their word.”

Gonna set some standards indeed.

And every second word being “umm”. As you say, what happens on the field is more important than media performance (which he has plenty of time to work on). Wishing him every success. I’m excited [emoji4]

I don't think he uses 'umm' as often as Harvey, but I did notice his use of them. There were times when he would string a couple of sentences together without 'umming'. He was nervous so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He even slurred a few words early. He is basically an articulate guy.

As he said he is not the finished article, and perhaps in his own mind and others he may have always thought he would just be an assistant.
Players are smart these days though and they want to play for someone who is genuine. McRae will surround himself with assistant coaches to aid his strategy because he knows he doesn’t know it all.
The most exciting thing for me is we have a developmental coach in charge of a lot of youth. This will hold us in good stead to see these guys improve sharply. If we can keep our middle aged guys invested and eventually add some more recruits, we can turn it around soon.

He mentioned a 3 yr term in the presser.
In his interview on 3AW they were talking 5 years.

🤷‍♂️

Healy asked him if in 5 years time Collingwood weren't playing finals would he expect to be re-signed and it went from there. Fly didn't bring up the length of tenure. It would have been silly to say "I'm only going to be contracted for 3 years anyway, I might be around in 5 years."

I just hope we stick by him, bring in senior assistants and support him when the chips are down.

We'll have tough times and the last thing I want to see is him hung out to dry like Rhyce Shaw was at NM. That was sad to watch, seeing him so dejected so I hope we bring in not just Leppitsch but another wiser head for support.

My big concern is how he handles the pressure / off field heat when we're down. Not just next year but most likely the one after that.

It’s a 3 year deal (that hasn’t been signed yet lol) but the 3AW question was about what will happen with Collingwood in 5 years, not about his contract.

There's no guarantees with these appointments. I think in at least one of the interviews he alluded to psychological profiles being done - which is reassuring but no guarantee.
Nth literally through Rhyce to the wolves. I can't see that happening....Neeld is another young coach who was an excruciating watch. I don't think that Wright will allow that to happen....if so he'd have some explaining to do
