Unlike Freo's start to the AFL here is your licence and here is a sea container to do your business. Oh yeah and best of luck you'll need it.

The difference in concessions is obvious but thats history. It just highlights the numptys and bumkins that ran Freo's negotiations to enter the VFL. They really needed to have had better business acumen and bigger balls to stand up to the commissions fraud. Its our foundation board and its representatives who are really the ones who should be criticised who didnt not only fail in the setup but were almost complicit with the VFL in their failings.

O/T I have a framed pic of the foundation crabs superimposed in front of a presumably successful historical Freo side. Its almost hilarious in its irony.

So many young kids all living around each other, playing footy together, and so much talent.
I dont see many wanting out in the next few years.
They will be living it up, all the girls they want and no media scrutiny.
All that talent, they will know the future is great if they can stay together.

AFL has created a powerhouse team of the future.
As long as the kids dont get greedy and get told about the geelong stories of how they stuck together despite being able to get much better $$$ elsewhere.
They will be a scary team in 3-5 years time.

Well, thats the plan, and it seems to be countering the "go home" factor pretty well.

And we're getting billed for Breakfast Point on the salary cap, too.

Yes point taken but still the gap is massive in start up support.

They didnt need Freo to be successful, GWS they do. Its all part of a bigger plan to attack a NRL heartland.

If they need to handover a few premierships they will.

I'm with you on this. Said it a few times recently, talk of mass-exodus is just never going to happen, especially from GWS where the AFL will package something up to avoid it. In any case, even if a few start wanting out, they're still going to get good trades out of them (e.g. Caddy), so they wont be left high and dry even if the AFL stop treating them as the golden child. GWS & GC will have very strong lists for the next decade at least.

They will have an exodus of the fringe and depth players. High draft picks tend to take more for granted ie. The right to get an oportunity to

What are Caddy and Toy?

By the way I think they did pretty well in the Caddy trade. But I also think the same pressures other clubs face will be their's too. If there is a good player not getting games, or not getting the salary he deserves, then he will be enticed into looking elsewhere.

Agree, these guys are looking for opportunities in a professional club to make enough money over their careers to set themselves up. If the money well dries up or the opportunities aren't there, they'll start to walk at the end of their contracts.

There will also be players who will walk if the club doesn't start winning.

GC will need to have a decent coach by this time next year if they want to keep their best players.

Great news to officially put him on our rookie list. That means we only have 2 other Rookie spots right?
Menegola, Moller, Schloithe, Pearce, ???? and ???

Straight to Peel for some development for the Hippie Basketballer...

Correct, by the sounds of it.

Sourced from Paccraig twitter.

While Fremantle will have four players on its rookie list in 2013, the club is allowed to have a further three developing rookies outside of the list of 44 players.

Moller fits into this category as a NSW Scholarship upgrade, with the other categories being International and Irish rookies.

So it looks like we have one spot left on the rookie list Schloithe Menengola and Pearce and one more normal rookies allowed (category A). And Moller as an extra on the development list (category B rookies).
If Pearce is upgraded we will have two ordinary rookie list spots left and 2 category B spots left. Not sure if we will use the 2 extra development spots.

I still find it hard to believe Clancee will be a FFC rookie in 2013. Not sure what will happen but I'd be very surprised to see it stay like that.

I know he had a fantastic 2012, but let's not forget he was de-listed not twelve months ago. Ross rewarded his effort with a spot in the 22, but I get the feeling that there are still more statements to be made before Ross begins to coast (which I personally don't think is possible).

Clancy will have an even footing with the other rookies come pre-season and will be in competition for Morabito's LTI upgrade, it will be a fire cracker for Menegola and Schloithe having Clancy as their competition for a spot and is smart management in my opinion. Clancy worked his way out of, and then back into, the team, prove to us it wasn't a flash in the pan and you'll get a three year deal come season's end Clance.

Boom, purple bloods culture is seeded.

That article is very vague. Would be nice if they could give us a bit more info on his development this year.

Might depend on how tight we are for spots on the main list. He will probably get paid a normal wage though if he stays on the rookie list just to make sure he sticks around.

I agree, there is probably more to it than meets the eye. But let's not pretend that Lyon wasn't the best thing that has happened to Clancy.

I suspect a possible reason we could lose someone who has been on our list, pre-Lyon, to walking, would be because they can't handle the intensity and commitment required to play under him and were happy coasting under previous administrations and wouldn't mind an easier gig, under a greener, softer coach.

Anecdotal evidence, however, suggests otherwise.

I only hope that the youngsters understand how lucky they are to be playing under a coach who communicates his demands so clearly and rewards and rates you based on your application, not solely your talent or name or past achievements.

These kid's may not know how good they have it, and may walk, based on a "grass is greener" paradigm.
