I have heard previously on this board that Darren Creswell maybe the next coach at the cats. If his match ups in the herald sun for tonights game are any indication of his coaching ability, he can forget it. Fancy suggesting that Jared Rooke should pick up Barry Hall if the big man does not play out of the goal square. Jared Rooke has saved his career by being moved to a run with role in the midfield (where he is also been good in an attacking sense). There is no way the cats would put him anywhere near the backline tonight, unless it was to play on Ryan O'Keefe who runs up the ground. Cressa has Riccardi starting on the ground on a half forward flank, when was the last time ricco started on the ground, let alone on a hff.

Please explain.
i'll take this one for you scotty. I think what he is trying to say is that rooke hardly saved his career purely because of his move to a midfield role. you made it sound like his career was in jeapardy which was hardly the case.

So you would have been happy for him to continue playing on the Robertsons and Pavlich's of this world. So obviously you guys would not be worried if Rooke was on Hall at CHF.

I would be afraid. Very afraid

nah I wouldn't be happy if he was to continue to play on these type of forwards - I don't think he will either. the players you have mentioned are the best forwards at their respective sides, rooke is not our best defender. just because he can't take the best forward does not mean there is no spot for him in defense - or are you disputing this jack?? (btw I think he's better suited to the role he is playing at the moment).

all I am saying is that his career has never been on the line at any stage this year. he has had a pretty decent season.

What he said. Well said.

Agreed

That is not a bad idea just for some experience, and also finishing, i would love Ricco to have a couple of shots on goal early, rarely misses. We need to get a couple early, cannot afford to miss chances.

Rooke's strengths are his attack on the ball and hard running. When caught 1 on 1 in a marking contest he looks vulnerable on most players. Play him across half back, that would be as far back in defence as I would like him to be. Preferably on the ball as a hard running tagger come attcking player ala Ling Kirk etc. As shown in previous weeks I am happy for Ling to be dragged back to the last line of defence and leave Rooke in the middle. Ling looks very comfortable in marking contests unlike Rooke.

Rooke was fine against Pavlich.

Dont forget Robbo kicked 4 on Matty last week. And Matty is the best FB of the last 4 seasons.

Rooke is a hard, tough, uncompromising player.

jmain14 took it for me. Yes i was trying to say that Rooke in no way saved his career by moving to a run with player. I have been a big fan of his for years and yes he has had a couple of bags kicked on him but who hasnt. He has also played well on Robbo before, Pavlich, G-Train and Hall. If Barry leads up the ground too, from outside the 50, then i have no problems with Rooke going to him, I think he can do the job and I wouldnt waste a player like Scarlett or Harley on him if he was up on the wings. Eagan would be my second choice, leave the good defenders back in the 50 where they belong. If Barry is up the ground then it would indicate we are winning the game. He is no threat up there.

The full quote was to play Rooke if Hall lined 30m out and let him run up the ground taking uncontested marks in the wing etc, while at the same time giving him a lot of niggle when inside the 50. If Hall lined up at FF then play Scarlett on him

While I think Rooke would probably be overmatched against Hall, the idea has some merit.

Scarlet, Harley and Egan have locked down the tallish positions. Enright,Milburn, Wojo, Corey, Hunt may all be fighting for flank /pocket positions very soon. Although I think Jack may have been a bit full on,I feel he is basically right. Rooke has been asked to play the third tall pos, now Egan comes in, is heading towards being 2nd tall in a hurry so its good for JR to show another option. He plays in the middle like Drum used to, hard at the ball and the man, give good run, not frightened to mic it up which is handy in matches like tonight.By him being the tagger it relases Ling, It also means on a medium type of forward line he may go back. Eg tonight he may have to take one of O'Loughlan or O'Keefe as they might have to much mobility for Egan.
All this gives the match committe another eason to keep him in the side when we have a full list
