At this rate, England should reach our score by lunch on day 9.

Just making up for those lost days in the first four Tests...

This young Siddle bloke is having a great Test. Glad they have decided to give a new guy a crack. He has a big future in this team.

Btw how come most of the sponsors' boards around the arena are coloured sky blue?

Saw Bumble getting dressed up like a sky blue Willy Wonka earlier. Obviously got a theme going.

EDIT: It's the UK's biggest cricket charity awareness and fundraising day and those who are heading to The Oval can get involved by wearing something blue as they try to turn the ground into a sea of blue.

Just noticed the stumps and bails. A few grannies in the stands have had their hair done for the occasion too.

Makes sense, thanks

What a strange test series. 3-2 sounds close, but they have been 5 of the biggest smashings ever, never known a series like it, not 1 remotely close test match.

Let's not forget. Siddle is only good for 1 test every 6 months. Bowls ok then the next test the bananas wear off and he is back bowling 125-130 kph again.

It has not happened yet but it is not often that you get a 3-2 result and by big margins. Way back in 1936-37 England won the first two Tests by big margins then Australia won the following three to take the series. There were two innings wins and two wins by over 300 runs in that series so it was similar to the current one.

Australia have some thinking to do particularly on batting line ups but the Poms have their problems as well. England's batting has failed spectacularly several times in this series and they rely on Cook and Root to hold their batting together.

This. Big time.

Even though Mitchell Johnson hurt the English with the ball against England two summers ago, it was Brad Haddin who saved Australia with the bat time and time again when the batting fell apart. Why was a 35 year old wicket-keeper along with a 35 year-old in Chris Rogers rescuing Australia? That was when the "thinking" needed to be done.

Rogers will almost certainly finish this tour with the highest average of the Australians. He is doing his job of course as a professional opener, but he is thinking about his garden and topping up the superannuation with a couple of 20/20 circuses, not Australia's Test future.

This tour has not only been a massive failure because of the scoreline but also because Lehmann and Marsh have sacrificed bringing younger players into the team by trotting out Dad's army. Three first choice players before the series started will never play again and lasted the match at Cardiff only. Add to that list Clarke and Rogers tomorrow.

Steve Smith and Peter Siddle are going to finish the tour as having the lowest bowling averages on this tour also.

Cricket is different to footy, you always pick for now, regardless of age. Voges was the right choice, the selectors didn't do a lot wrong, the batsmen let them down.

Now that they have failed we have to change the squad for the next series, burns will come back, maybe as the opener, but apart from that I don't know who else could be picked.

Using your philosophy you pick the 35 year old Max Klinger to replace the 36 year old Rogers ! But what do you do in two years time when Klinger pulls the pin, find another 35 year old to replace him ?

Any team has to have some youth to guarantee continuity of purpose you cannot keep changing players every two years or so.

Young WA opener Cameron Bancroft might be worth a go. Some think he might need another year at Shield level, but he dominated last summer and we need a Test opener NOW, so why not see how he goes against Bangladesh? If he's successful over there, he plays against the Kiwis in November.

My team for October 19 against Bangladesh:

Warner
Bancroft
Smith
Voges
Burns
Mitchell Marsh
Nevill
Johnson
Starc
Cummins
Lyon

Perhaps swapping one of the pacemen.

I would have picked klinger years ago, run machine, still is....

Burns Lynn Bancroft and ferguson are the ones in the mix.

They may look at Cowan to come back as an opener.

I'd be happy to drop Warner down to number 6, way too costly up the top of the order when he throws his wicket away cheaply like he does so often. Sets the tone for the rest.

On top of that Joe burns did really well as an opener against India A. I have always seen Burns as a natural opener so maybe give him a shot at opening the innings. On the other hand Usman Khawaja also performed well as an opener against India A so maybe his name is still in the mix.

It is a pity that when Cricket Australia sent Australia A away they played a limited overs format. It would have been good to have seen Burns in a four day International game or two to see if he can build an innings. What CA really need to do now is get some of the young players playing as much four day cricket as they can. Stuff the limited overs and bash and whack stuff. We will have a delayed start to the season so that the 50 over stuff can be concluded then the Shield woll start only to go into along recess over Christmas and then they wonder why we have no up an coming Test players. As Ian Chappell says the system needs fixing.
