klinger hits a 6 and brings up his 100 on the last ball of the innings.

another nail in the coffin of south australian cricket.
How Watson can retain his spot at 3 instead of giving Maxy a crack is a joke, Watto has to be one of the most overrated cricketers to play 50 tests, 4 hundreds batting his whole career in the top order says it all.

Klinger is in some fine form at the moment, shame they're so hot/cold on their age policy Klinger/Cowan are too old to get a look in but Rogers is 40 yet looks to have cemented his spot for next years Ashes.

Watson had that purple patch as an opener about five or six years ago and someone thought that was enough to make him a middle order batsman. He has been injury prone, hot and cold with the bat and can only bowl on a restricted work load yet he makes the side. If ever a player is playing on reputation it is Shane Watson. Watson might still be useful as an all rounder batting at 6-8 but his limited bowling make that impossible.

Watson has made one score of fifty this calendar year and that was yesterday. It was not so much that Watson got out yesterday, anyone can be beaten by a good delivery, it was the way in which he got out. Rogers had just been dismissed and Watson has a brain fade and attempts a poorly judged sweep off middle and is lbw, that is not playing for the team.

Watson is not a Test class middle order batsman and if this were a strong batting side he would not be there. This innings of 50 will keep him in the side for Sydney but it does nothing to solve the no3 dilemma.

I keep forgetting Joe Burns's name. Should I try harder to remember it or am I wasting my time?

Not knocking the young fella but some of these players who have been given one chance then disappeared back into the wilderness of Shield cricket can be frightening.

Apparently Rob Quiney played two tests for Australia. Who knew?

Stunning day in Melbourne: hopefully made even better by Australia batting until around tea. If Smith and Haddin can see out the first hour, 350 should be a certainty, and on this drop in wicket, that's a very competitive score.

Great ton by Steve Smith. He is in rare form.

Haddin got himself out just now for 55. Accidental under-edge.

6/327

If Smith isn't the best player in the world right now, he's in the grand final. 450 now a strong chance if Johnson and Smith can stay together for a while.

SMITH joined a list of 5 captains that scored 100s in their first test as captain...wonder if any also scored one in their second test too?

1000 runs in the calendar year now ... NZer McCullum would make the GF too

I reckon AB de Villiers would be part of the equation right too. But yeah: McCullum is red hot right now.

400 up :)

Also does Bill Lawry only call the cricket on Boxing Day these days?

Yep, he's not part of the travelling circus any more, but he's still good value. Better than most of the nuffies they have there now.

they showed sangakkara has scored 1492 runs at an average of 74 and matthews has 1251 runs at an average of 89 this year. younis khan who destroyed us is next on 1213 runs. dont get to see much of sri lanka so its a little surprising. also what is surprising is ab devilliers has only 621 runs at an average of 51.

bloody joe root has the best average for the year 777 runs at an average of 97

Sri Lanka play a lot of games against awful sub class middle eastern teams such as Bangladesh.
not all true, sri lanka played 2 tests v bangladesh, 2 tests in england, 3 tests v pakistan in the uae, 2 tests v south africa in sri lanka, 2 tests v pakistan in sri lanka, now they are in new zealand

Decent opponents, lot of home/near home games. They've traveled to UK and NZ recently and rest at home. Sth Aftica, Pakistan and England in the top 4 test sides though i suppose

The cricket show coming up provides the perfect opportunity to rewatch Elim final first qrt.

Can't stand the lunchtime shows.
Watto is a class allrounder though. He bowls as well as bats.Just doesn't make runs or take wickets.
The Aussie selectors are hard to work out.I read the other Day that Shaun Marsh has made about 12 centuries over 10 years of first class cricket at a poor average. How does he get selected?

Might have quoted the wrong post there

When God was giving out necks Jordan Silk thought he was giving out willies and asked for an extra long one.

Australia in a pretty good position at stumps, but I wonder how costly that dropped catch will prove. Hopefully our bowlers come out firing in the morning, and have India 4 down by lunch.

Had an amusing moment on my walk this evening. I was trying to find an ATM, as I was nearly out of money. I came to an intersection, that had a sign which read, "COLLINGWOOD ENGLISH SPEAKING SCHOOL." I thought to myself, "I wonder if that's where Collingwood fans learn how to speak English." :)

Just down the road from me is a dodgy 'school' which proudly dubs itself as the 'Academy of Learning'. Not sure what they teach there but it isn't tautology.

NZ in prime form. A strong NZ cricket team is always good for world cricket. I admire that cricket team ever since I went over there and found out just how mad Kiwis are about rugby.
