The other problem in this game has been our fielding. Dropped catches have cost us close to 200 runs - if they'd been taken, we'd now be up 3-0.

Not surprising, given all the speculation. Kohli might be a knob, but he's also got a pretty good cricket brain. I'm expecting a competitive match in Sydney.MS Dhoni has retired from Test cricket effective immediately.
Kohli to captain the Sydney Test.
He's hitting 144k's which is around Johnson's pace now. He bowled Kallis and Hussey, fair effort.
Cummins up next and they say he's bowling even quicker.
Crap finish to an average final day topped off with the decision to give up with 4 overs left, I know we probably wouldn't have taken the wickets but all it takes is one good delivery to dismiss Dhoni & their tail would crumble.
Oh well one things for certain the MCG isn't close to Adelaide Oval when it comes to last day finishes.
How about "never give up!" Oh that's my footy teams mantra not the mantra of the australian cricket team. the best thing about tonight was his interview after the match, said how he would even miss a couple of t20 matches to play club cricket so he can best prepare himself to play shield cricket and get on the tour of the west indies early next year. dont think he will play in the world cup, even though i would pick him thats for sure. That Kallis ball was a rip snorter, he should at least get a World Cup berth.
Absolutely. Dhoni and Ashwin were defending well, but just 1 good ball was all that was needed.given the way the indians collapse i would have definitely played out the match until the end.
He hasn't been selected to play, just to get with the team. He may need some straightening up or a little motivation, being a 19 year old. T20 also probably hurts him, a lot to like about him though. Maybe the extra height of Ashwin, or a potential left armer coming in for the Sydney test, be good to see some variations in the nets? Agar could yet be the World Cup bolter yet!Ashton Agar, the spinner who mysteriously was picked ahead of Lyon in the Ashes a few years ago ... has been added to the 13 man squad for Sydney.
His form is deplorable!
. Still very young for a spinner.Certainly seemed a strange way to go about things. First Australia batted on for the whole first session slowly, which was a possible cause for Marsh missing his ton. Then when there was still a chance to win, the last 3 wickets fell in 2.3 overs in the first innings, Smith called it off. When the media was praising this team for providing entertainment as well as winning it was an odd choice. Maybe decided by the fact that Dhoni and Ashwin had seemed relatively unflustered for 11 overs.given the way the indians collapse i would have definitely played out the match until the end.

I'm sure that was right what he said, I just don't agree with the whole idea of calling an early end. Cricketers are paid well and the public should expect the maximum effort they can make. Would we have liked it if an end had been called to the elimination final last year when we were 87 points up halfway through the third quarter? Port Adelaide supporters wouldn't even have accepted an early end to the game we lost by 165 points to Hawthorn.
When a result is a mathematical impossibility or even a realistic impossibility(say 8 wickets-10 overs) maybe it would just be boring to play out time but any decision to end early should take the spectators into account. After all they are the ones who don't get paid the huge whack the cricketers do but still have to pay through the nose for tickets.
If roles had been reversed, and we had been fighting for survival in India, would the Indian captain have been so sporting? No way Jose!!!!!with the way the Indians sometimes collapse a continuation seemed logical ... A quick wicket they are 7 for and fighting to save the game ... we let them off the hook IMO
I was talking about not continuing for the last 4 overs ... I agree with declaring ... give em nothing ... esp when Dhoni had so defensive fields late on 4th and early on day 5!!If roles had been reversed, and we had been fighting for survival in India, would the Indian captain have been so sporting? Mate: so was I - the Indians would have made us play out the final ball.I was talking about not continuing for the last 4 overs ... I agree with declaring ... give em nothing ... esp when Dhoni had so defensive fields late on 4th and early on day 5!!
IF he wanted sporting ... he needed to give a bit too!
