Did i hear right on the radio as I was driving around that Sayers and Benton had to survive 7 overs.? Looking at the commentary on ESPN scoreboard it shows they lasted 5 overs. Gutsy effort by the deadbacks to almost survive the full day.

Yeah REH - although it was disappointing to lose, at least they didn't fold like a pack of cards, as they might have in previous years. If they'd been rolled before lunch for around 150, I would have been more fearful about the next game at the MCG. The Vics will still be damn tough, but hopefully we'll give them a decent contest.

They had to survive 6 to draw as Richardson was dismissed off the last ball of over no. 115. They lasted till the last ball of over 120. So yes, they did face 5. As Benton had scored 17* in the first innings I was confident he'd last facing the final over.
Richardson, Zampa, Sayers and Benton lasted 100 balls in the first innings and 179 in the 2nd. A great effort but they shouldn't have been put in the position of having to do that. And Sayers should not feel that he lost the match. I hope some of the batsmen stood the drinks after the match.

March 2017: Australia in India, chasing 405 to win. All out 107 in the 27th over.

Hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it.

If this was a red ball Test, then I'd agree. But the pink ball makes it a whole new ball game - especially under lights. We saw last year against the Kiwis how tough batting was in the final session, and I expect more of the same against the Proteas.

As good as he's been all series, I expect Vernon Philander to be even more devastating in this game. Our blokes will need a helluva lot of luck if we have to face him under lights.

I can see similarities between 1984 and now, and it ain't good. Back then we saw the retirements of some of the greats, followed by the disastrous 1985 Ashes tour of England when we got comprehensively Bothamed, followed by the 1986/87 Ashes in Australia when Chris Broad made a million runs. In between, Hadlee made a meal of us in Australia - including his 9 for 52 at the Gabba. It wasn't until the 1989 tour of England where we came good: just like those dark days, maybe we have to endure 5 years of pain before we come good.

The players' viewing room at the iconic Adelaide venue has been named in honour of an Australian cricket team favourite

One of Australia’s most-loved cricket icons, Barry ‘Nugget Rees, has been recognised after it was announced the players’ viewing room at the Adelaide Oval will be named in his honour.

The South Australian Cricket Association announced on Tuesday that the room, which is occupied by Redbacks team members during Sheffield Shield matches and Australian players during the international fixtures, will be named the ‘Barry ‘Nugget’ Rees Viewing Room’.

Rees has been an integral part of Australian and South Australian sides for more than 50 years.

Bloke last takes 11 wickets in a man of the match performance on that pitch. Hell Sayers only made 11 less runs last shield game than Maddinson did.

I don't so much mind Bird in, but more so Sayers omitted for Lyon. Surely on that pitch playing the 4 quicks would have been the way to go. Grow your own dope: plant an Aussie selector
