Ashwin takes 6/112 in the first and 6/55 in the second.

Ah 251 runs to go. but 247 wickets in 43 tests is blood impressive. 5.75 wickets per test I reckon will put him in the top 5 of least number of tests to 250 wickets.

Shit Lillee was the fastest to 250 in 48 tests. Ashwin will probably get there in his next test, his 44th.

Murali started going ballistic after he had taken 150 wickets in 36 tests and was averaging between 7.5 and 9 tests to take every 50 wickets after that. He became the quickest to 350 took 66 tests, that was the first time he was the quickest to any 50 wicket market and is the quickest to every 50 mark after 350 wickets.

The ECB and all other cricketing boards have to agree to play the day/ night test which the poms weren't going to agree to unless they could use their own pink ball so it looks like they have changed their minds.

yep. I went to Day 1 of the Adelaide test and it was an amazing day/evening!
I see nothing bad about it at all...
Bigger crowds, better atmosphere, and the experience overall was better. Pink ball underlights was a fantastic experience and i cant wait for next years

Mind you, the ICC is making it easy for him by scheduling ALL of India's Tests in India for the foreseeable future (until at least September 2017). With 1 more Test against England, a one off Test against Bangladesh and 4 Tests against Australia, Ashwin could easily have 300 Test wickets by the end of March.

To say Lyon could be dropped after he has finally taken a few wickets AND on a pitch where he has a good record must have been tough to do. He would have known the selectors would never do it, to take in four paceman on any wicket is too much like all your eggs in one basket.

Mind you that pace attack was Malcolm Marshall, Courtney Walsh, Patrick Patterson and Curtley Ambrose (although Patterson was injured early on the first day and played no further part in the Test).

And Australia's pace attack of Tony Dodemaide, Chris Matthews and Craig McDermott was bowling at the likes of Desmond Haynes, Gordon Greenidge, Richie Richardson and Viv Richards.

It was as plain as the nose on Bill Lawry's face. It's OK to drop Ferguson and Mennie after one substandard performance, but it's clearly a different story when the names of the underperformers are Bird and Maddinson. Baffling!!!

That said, it was a great day for Australia, with Smith leading from the front, and Renshaw and Handscomb backing up their impressive debuts in Adelaide with classy 50's. Hopefully Handscomb can turn it into a big 100 tomorrow.

Delighted that Amir is OK. He's an excellent bowler, and it would have been a tragedy if he couldn't take any further part in the series.

I'm speechless!!!

A YOUNG South African cricketer has given a whole new spin to the term “carry your bat” with an incredible innings in an under-19 Twenty20 tournament in Pretoria.
Shania-Lee Swart, an all-rounder for Mpumalanga, opened the innings against Easterns and scored 160 off 86 balls — a score higher than any individual score in Twenty20 international cricket history.
But that stat only told part of the story. Swart was the only player from Mpumalanga to score a single run. No one else faced more than 10 deliveries.
Swart’s 160, plus nine extras (five wides, three no balls and a leg bye) took the Mpumalanga total to 169. Ridiculous.
A whopping 90 per cent of Swart’s runs came from boundaries as she finished her knock with 18 fours and 12 sixes.
Swart finished the innings with a hard-to-believe unbeaten 61-run partnership for the 10th wicket with tailender Nicholate Phiri. Like the rest of her teammates, Phiri didn’t score. And she only faced three deliveries. Talk about farming the strike.
After her giant effort with the bat, Swart continued to demoralise her opposition in the field. The plucky teenager took the ball in the second over and bowled Easterns’ opener for a duck and finished the match with very handy figures of 2-21 off her four overs.
Easterns showed a lot more fight than the Mpumalanga batting order with a much more evenly spread scorecard of runs, but it wasn’t enough to take down Swart’s innings after they were tied down for 6-127 from their 20 overs.
Swart posted her innings to her Facebook page where a fan congratulated her for her innings and jokingly said she should “give someone else a go next time”. Swart replied saying she had to play tactically to make sure her team wasn’t totally embarrassed.
“I wanted to (give someone else a go) but everytime someone else was on strike we lost a wicket, so I had to play clever cricket to win the game for my team,” she said.
It's not the first time the prodigy has blasted a huge innings this season, either. According to her dedicated Facebook page, Swart scored 147 not out in her first T20 club game against Nelspruit in November with 21 fours and five sixes.
Swart’s latest innings set the media ablaze with Cricbuzz declaring her as a “one-woman army” and questioning if her “Woman of the Match” accolade should be changed to “Match of the Woman”.
In terms of history, Mpumalanga’s succession of ducks is by far the most incredible.Examples such as the MCC being skittled for 16 after losing seven wickets for no runs and Wirral Cricket Club being bowled out for a total of three runs offer hilarious comparisons, but none of them won a match.
It’s certain this is the only time a team scoring nine ducks has beaten an opponent so convincingly and Swart’s innings is possibly the most deserving Player of the Match in the history of T20 cricket. Maybe someone should give her a call-up for the Women’s Big Bash season?

To put things in perspective as of September 2016 in 9 Tests outside of the sub continent Ashwin had taken just 24 wickets at 56.58. Credit to Ashwin and Murali as you still have to use the conditions and take the wickets but we need also need to take into account the surfaces they are bowling on.

Despite the figures of Murali and now Ashwin, Shane Warne's performance, where he took a large number of wickets across several countries mark him as the best spinner of all time imo. If Warnie had bowled the same percentage of Tests in the sub continent as Murali or Ashwin his figures would have been phenomenal.
