Was out for the day so missed your question. According to Rick Finlay long time scorer for ABC Radio and frequent tweeter of stats, its the 1st time at AO and only 3rd time in test history.





Jack Badcock - correct first name Clayvel as per scorebook/scorecards, but always referred to as Jack by teammates and fans moved over to SA from Tassie for 1934/35 season, 12 months before Bradman and they had many successful partnerships for SA over the next 6 or 7 years until WWII.

I think they still have a couple of record highest run ie 300+ run partnerships for SA against NSW and Victoria which are still records today. They were about 30 years ago, when I first studied who Jack Badcock was.

This century at the MCG Badcock scored, was the only one in his 7 test career and was at the MCG for the 5th test, in the famous winning of the ashes from 0-2 down with Bradman making 3 centuries in each of the last 3 tests, starting with 270 at the MCG in the 3rd test to help Oz win the series 3-2.

Finlay said on radio, as I was driving, that because Greg Chappell went to play for Queensland in 1973-74, the hundreds Greg and Ian scored at the Basin Reserve test in Wellington in March 1974 don't count. Greg made 247 n.o and 133 and Ian made 145 and 121. Their partnerships were 264 in the first innings and only 88 in the second. It was a batting paradise and draw as over 1500 runs were scored for only 24 wickets.

Ian only made 2 more test centuries after that game and Greg made 17 more but not together in the same match.

Another stat - I assume that Will Jacks is the first English spinner to score back to back 100's in the same game in Adelaide. Geez he's been disappointing!!!

Rick Finlay also said that Head's 4 consecutive centuries in 4 consecutive tests at the same ground (not 4 consecutive innings) has only been achieved by the following Oz players;

Bradman twice
1) Headingly so that's 1930, 1934, 1938 and 1948
334 DNB, 304 DNB, (both tests draws) 103, 16 win and 33 and 173 n.o. in the famous chase of 3/404 with Arthur Morris and set a new world record run chase. The Don's record at Headingly was 4 tests 6 innings 1 n.o. 963 runs Ave of 192.60

2) MCG Dec 1928 3rd test v poms, March 1929 5th test, Feb 31 v WI and Dec 31 v SAF - overall record at MCG
11 tests 17 innings 4 n.o. 1671 runs Ave 128.54 9 x 100 + 3 x 50. At the MCG Bradman still has most test runs scored, highest average and most centuries. [He also did 3 in a row in 1932 v England and then in the 3rd and 5th tests in 1936-37 ashes series. There were no tests in Oz played between 1932-33 ashes series and 1936-37 ashes series.]


Michael Clarke at AO hit 3 in a row Dec 2006, Jan 2008 and Nov 2008 ie his 2nd, 3rd and 4th test there and then hit 4 in a row Jan 2012, Nov 2012, Dec 2013 and Dec 2014 and the first 2 of the 4 were double tons.

His overall record at AO is 10 tests 17 innings 2 n.o. 1414 runs Ave 94.27. He ended up 3rd on total runs 1 behind Border in 2nd place and Ponting, 3rd best average of players who have made 500+ runs at AO behind Lindsay Hassett 128 and Bradman 107 and his 7 hundreds are the most at AO. Bradman only made 3 at AO but they were all double hundreds inc 299 n.o. v SAF when he was stranded as #11 got run out without facing a ball, when they went for quick single to get The Don's triple ton.

Stephen Smith at MCG 2014-15-16-17 in his 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th test there which at end of it, the last 3 centuries were all not out and his record read 6 tests, 10 innings 4 n.o. 816 runs at Ave 136.00 which was very Bradmanesgue.

Smith now has a more normal record there, still outstanding at 12 tests, 20 innings 4 n.o. 1246 runs Ave 77.88 and 5 centuries. In terms of runs at MCG he is behind Bradman, Ponting 1338, S Waugh 1284, Border 1272, and G Chappell 1257, so he should end up 2nd behind Bradman there, his average is 20+ runs better than the guys currently between him and Bradman. Would probably have to play 5 more tests there to outscore Bradman's total runs.


At the end of day 3 Head's record at AO is 8 tests, 11 innings 2 n.o. 786 runs Ave 87.33 and 4 centuries

4 centuries at AO puts him equal 3rd with Border Warner and Boon behind Clarke's 7 and Ponting's 6, runs scored is 13th highest and average of 87 puts him 4th behind Clarke for players who have made 500 runs at AO.

If you look at players who have made 400+ runs at AO then he slips to 7th - the big 3 already mentioned, Haddin and Jack Ryder in the high 90's, Len Hutton 91 and Kevin Petersen 88.

If he gets out first ball on day 4 his average becomes 78.60 which means he is still ahead of Lara 610 @ 76.25 and Hussey 819 at 74.45.

There probably are other non Australian players who have hit 4 test centuries in 4 consecutive tests at a particular ground, but I don't have access to Rick Finlay's and other crickets statisticians comprehensive data bases and Statsguru on Cricinfo doesn't allow you to do this type of Query.

History here in the making eh. At least Port Ambassador Travis Head has lived up to the club song.

It doesn't surprise me because SA does not have that many batsmen with long and illustrious Test careers. Clem Hill, DG Bradman, Ian and Greg Chappell and now Travis Head are the only ones I can nominate. Players like Lehmann, Hookes and Blewett had moments of glory but they were not prolific scorers over many years.

Well done, and Travis and Alex were not bad either.

If Carey scores about 300 more runs he goes past Greg Blewett and becomes the 5th highest scoring SA produced test player behind the Chappells, Travis and Clem Hill. Blewett and Carey have both played 46 tests and currently Carey's average is just over 2 more than Blewett's.

Google AI tells me Kane Williamson is the only bloke to score 5 consecutive test centuries in 5 consecutive tests at Seddon Park in Hamilton New Zealand.

In the past five Test matches on the ground, Williamson has scores of 200 v Bangladesh, Feb 2019, 4, 104 v England, Dec 2019, 251 v West Indies Dec 2020, 43, 133* v South Africa, Feb 2024 and 44 and 156 v England Dec 2024 and Kiwis won by 423 runs.

His record at Seddon Park is 12 tests, 21 innings 4 n.o. 1614 runs at 94.94 with 7 centuries and 5 half centuries.

Oz play NZ at AO next December so maybe Head can match Williamson in 12 months time.
 
Trav's rush of blood meant he threw away a double ton. He started getting itchy to up the scoring rate once he passed 150.

He'll come out for Smith. But if he's the next keeper I think he'll continue be in the squad as a reserve bat. They obviously think he's a better bat than Webster to play 2 games, but maybe the selectors don't want to play both all-rounders even though there's no downside to that option. Stick to the white ball stuff Inglis.

I think Webster in for Green and Smith in for Inglis in the Boxing Day Test. In this Test Green and Inglis have 49 runs between them on a good batting wicket. Not good enough.

Australia lead it by 429. Go for a lead of 500 as the Poms would need to create cricket history to win as the highest successful run chase is 418 by the West Indies at Antigua in 2003. As the Poms need a win to have any semblance of regaining the Ashes they have to go for it. They may as well bazball it and see what happens.

Yeah well two quick wickets Just put and end to the lead it by 500 dream.
